The Hell Gate Bridge (originally the New York Connecting Railroad Bridge or The East River Arch Bridge) is a 1,017-foot (310 m) steel arch railroad bridge between Astoria in the borough of Queens and Randall's and Ward's Islands (which are now joined into one island and are politically part of Manhattan) in New York City, over a portion of the East River known as Hell Gate.

From Wikipedia.

The bridge is used by Amtrak and by some CSX, Canadian Pacific, Providence & Worcester Railroad, and New York and Atlantic freight trains. The bridge and structure are owned by Amtrak, part of its Washington, D.C. to Boston electrified main line known as the Northeast Corridor. Metro-North Railroad trains may one day run on the bridge. The bridge is also part of the New York Connecting Railroad, a rail line that links New York City and Long Island to the North American mainland.

The Hell Gate Bridge runs parallel to the Queens span of the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, which connects Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan, and drivers can see the length of the bridge just east of the roadway.

The great arch bridge is the largest of three bridges, along with more than 17,000 feet (3.2 mi; 5.2 km) long of approach spans and viaducts, that form the Hell Gate complex. An inverted bowstring truss bridge with four 300-foot (91.4 m) spans crosses the Little Hell Gate (now filled in); and a 350-foot (106.7 m) fixed truss bridge crosses the Bronx Kill (now narrowed by fill).

This bridge was the inspiration for the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Sydney, Australia.

Hell is a group of short, black, limestone formations located on Grand Cayman. It is in West Bay.

The area is about the size of half a football field.

Visitors are not permitted to walk on the limestone formations but a couple of viewing platforms are provided.

We visited 'Hell' in April 2018.

There were small statues of devils scattered throughout the area.

Once again, people in my neighbourhood just haven't got a clue when it comes to putting out the rubbish for collection.

Every other week it is the non-recycleable rubbish (grey bins). The rubbish should all be in bags within the bin and the lid should close. Simple!

And of course, I was unable to cycle through this shit-hole of an alleyway this morning.

GRRRRRRR!!!

This was done for my Mexican Art History class (I got an A!). It is part of a retablo in a Franciscan Convent in Mexico, showing the horrors of Hell. This part seemed more yummy than horrific. I hang it on the wall during Halloween.

La Burn Energy Shot a le pire goût jamais enregistré pour une "boisson" du genre. Mais elle semble efficace.

Believe it or not, this is one of the secondary entrances to the Underworld.

The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (English, "Basilica of Saint Mary of the Flower") is the main church of Florence, Italy. Il Duomo di Firenze, as it is ordinarily called, was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style to the design of Arnolfo di Cambio and completed structurally in 1436 with the dome engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi. The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink bordered by white and has an elaborate 19th-century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris.

Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici decided to have the dome painted with a representation of The Last Judgment. This enormous work, 3,600 metres² (38 750 ft²) of painted surface, was started in 1568 by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari and would last till 1579. The upper portion, near the lantern, representing The 24 Elders of Apoc. 4 was finished by Vasari before his death in 1574. Federico Zuccari and a number of collaborators, such as Domenico Cresti, finished the other portions: (from top to bottom) Choirs of Angels; Christ, Mary and Saints; Virtues, Gifts of the Holy Spirit and Beatitudes; and at the bottom of the cuppola: Capital Sins and Hell. These frescoes are considered Zuccari's greatest work. But the quality of the work is uneven because of the input of different artists and the different techniques. Vasari had used true fresco, while Zuccari had painted in secco. During the restoration work ended in 1995, the entire pictorial cycle of the The Last Judgment was photographed with specially designed equipment and all the information collected in a catalogue. All the restoration information along with reconstructed images of the frescos were stored and managed in the Thesaurus Florentinus computer system.

Jigoku Meguri,” touring the boiling “Hells of Beppu,” is a popular tourist route of eight unique bubbling and steaming hot springs. Each of these onsen (hot spring) has a distinctive characteristic. Visitors can enjoy a close-up look at volcanic pits where furious eruptions happened more than a millennium ago. The most spectacular one is Umi Jigoku, or Sea Hell, the largest among the eight. Although the pond is boiling hot, its cobalt blue water reminds us of the sea in the South Pacific Ocean. The following four hells are also very unique and popular among tourists. Oniishibozu Jigoku features bubbling mud, a foot bath, and its own hot-spring baths (extra admission required). Kamado Jigoku, the Oven Hell, was used for cooking and has a statue of a red devil. Chinoike Jigoku, the Blood-Pond Hell, is blood red because of red clay which contains iron oxide. Tatsumaki Jigoku, or Waterspout Hell, has one of the largest geysers in Japan. Each hell requires admission fee, and a combo ticket for for all of them is also available. Also, sightseeing buses take you through the eight spectacular springs in about two and a half hours.

Photo by Tom Sandelands Photography. Hell is Empty and ALL the Devils are Here is a raucous, biting, satirical view of the extraordinary election cycle of 2016, and the unexpected rise to power of Donald Drumpf. In a divided and fearful country, where the media feeds on sensationalism and high drama, this master of manipulation throws a real monkey wrench into the political process: he calls upon the occupants of Hell to escape and help him fan the flames of chaos above.

Inhabited by the likes of Hillary as Brunhilde, Clowns as Valkyries, our old friend Sarah Palin, Ted "Dracula" Cruz, and a cast of outrageously wacky characters, Hell looks at the election through the lens of a fun house mirror. Interact’s radically inclusive cast packs a political punch with a hard-hitting comedy that will have you side-splitting laughing, even while you know it’s really not all that funny.

Hell features guest actor Jeffery Haas as Bernie Sanders, Ana Maria Koutsostamatis as Ted Cruz, Taous Khazem as Sarah Palin, Aaron Gabriel as Donald Drumpf, and Shanan Custer as Hillary Clinton. Directed by Jeanne Calvit, Interact Artistic Director, and created by the entire Interact ensemble.

A glass of Helles from the Meantime brewery in Greenwich, London, on draft at The Market Porter in Borough Market, London.

Helles is a 4.4% abv German inspired pale lager, hopped with Hallertau. It poured a clear, pale yellow color with a white head. Mild aroma, just a whiff of floral hops. Mouthfeel was light with a strong, almost stingy, carbonation. The taste had a hint of acidity (from the carbonation), hardly any malt flavor and just a mild floral hop presence. This is a well made German Helles, light both in body and alcohol. A great session beer.
