This is an old photo from the last November during the Nellis Air Show. This Humvee looked like a tiny matchbox toy while being carried to the other side of the base by this huge CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter.

Fun Fact: Currently, about 150 CH-53E helicopters are in service with the Marines and another 28 MH-53Es are in service with the U.S Navy. The CH-53 requires 44 maintenance hours per flight hour. A flight hour costs about $20,000

A little less than a month ago, it was moving day for the Apache Railway's RS36 #800. The unit was donated to the Navajo County Historical Society last year and they worked to have it painted into the as delivered paint scheme that it arrived in back in September 1962. The Society worked with Southwest Industrial Rigging to perform the heavy lift, and it went very well throughout the process.

It was a great opportunity for me to witness the crews work to prep and then fly the 800 off its trucks and onto a lowboy for the short move to the display site. The 160-ton crane moved the gutted shell of the locomotive with ease and precision onto the trailer. After it was blocked up and secured for movement, the trucks went onto another trailer. Each truck weighed 26 tons per one of the crew members, but I didn't get the weight of the 800 unfortunately.

More pictures of the move coming over the next few days.

Everything has its turn. Sooner or later we all get a chance to shine. Some maybe longer than others. Who is to know? Not me.

I myself shine best when I am not shining at all.

Ponder that.

A rare treat to have them use our field for practice. He was so large, I couldn't zoom back enough.

Continuing on from my last post about the move of the Apache 800, here are 3 shots of it progressing to the display site.

The truck and trailer only encountered 1 low wire during the move down Navajo Blvd. Once that was manually raised for them to roll under, it was an easy pull down to the historical society property and the turn onto East Buffalo St.

For a sense of scale, check out the people on the barge in front of the Thialf.
