Sonntag maritim – Maritimer Höhepunkt des Samstagvormittags (10.06.2023) war das Einlaufen des Heavy Load Carriers „GPO GRACE“ in den Rostocker Seekanal. Das Spezialschiff kam von Halifax (Kanada) und soll große Rohre wieder zurück nach Halifax transportieren. Die „GPO GRACE“ war bereits vor 11 Wochen in Rostock. Leider konnte ich sie damals nicht aufnehmen und präsentieren.
Das Unternehmen GPO HEAVYLIFT ist spezialisiert auf die Durchführung von Seetransporten mit Schwer- und Spezialgut. Dazu unterhält GPO vier Semisubmersible Haevylift Vessels – „GRACE“, „AMETHYST“, „SAPPHIRE“ und „EMERALD“. „GRACE“ und „SAPPHIRE“ waren schon in Rostock – die „EMERALD“ ist für den 16.06.2023 avisiert.
Das Schiff ist 225 Meter lang und 48 Meter breit, wurde 2017 in Dienst gestellt und fährt unter der Flagge der Marshall Islands.
Aktuell (11.06.2023 06.00) befindet sich das Schiff noch im Seehafen Rostock.
Sonntag maritim 2 – Im Seehafen Rostock liegt seit dem 16.06.2023 die „GPO EMERALD“. Das Schiff kam von Antwerpen (Belgien) und soll nach der Beladung mit großen Rohren dann nach Aviles (Spanien) fahren.
Das Unternehmen GPO HEAVYLIFT ist spezialisiert auf die Durchführung von Seetransporten mit Schwer- und Spezialgut. Dazu unterhält GPO vier baugleichen Semisubmersible Haevylift Vessels – „GRACE“, „AMETHYST“, „SAPPHIRE“ und „EMERALD“. „GRACE“, „SAPPHIRE“ und nun „EMERALD“ waren bereits in Rostock.
Das Schiff ist 225 Meter lang und 48 Meter breit, wurde 2021 in Dienst gestellt und fährt unter der Flagge der Marshall Islands.
Hier deutlich zu sehen, wie diese Rohre auf das Schiff geladen werden. Das Schiff wird an einer rechtwinkligen Kaikante fest vertäut und mittels internen Ausgleichtanks so weit gesenkt, dass Schiffsladefläche und Kaikante eine Ebene bilden. Dann wird Rohr für Rohr auf den grünen fahrbaren Trägern auf das Schiff gerollt und sicher fest gemacht. Ein komplizierter Prozess, denn jedes Rohr wiegt etwa 750 Tonnen. Die „GPO EMERALD“ kann 6 Rohre an Bord nehmen und transportieren.
Die Rohre werden unweit im Rostocker Seehafen produziert und finden ihren Einsatz für die Fundamente von Offshore-Windkraftanlagen.
Aktuell (25.06.2023 06.00) befindet sich das Schiff noch im Seehafen Rostock.

These lifts look a lot like harbour cranes to me.

The Antigua and Barbuda registered general cargo vessel, the ASC Lotti, formerly known as Remontowa Rem, Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski, and BBC Kwiatowski (IMO 9436953) as headed into the Fremantle Inner Harbour on 16 June 2023. Her next port of call, Cocos Keeling Islands in Australia.
Her gross tonnage is 6,155 tonnes, and her overall length (loa) is 122.45 m. Her container capacity is 446 TEU. She was built in 2008 in Poland and is operated by Brise HeavyLifts of Germany.
She was last inspected under the Indian Ocean MoU Port State Control in Fremantle on 12 May 2033. No deficiencies were found.

Not a lot of people know that carrots at their full size are massive. They are lifted off barges and whittled down to the size you commonly see in the shops. You never see 'carrot whittler sought' adverts because nobody is supposed to know. Keep it secret would you?

This looked very out-of-place at Heathrow in amongst all of the Boeing and Airbus jets.
Someone had fun modifying this old truck at one time, putting some of the biggest tires available on this old lift truck. Guessing that did a number on the transmission so this curiosity will probably continue to sit....

The submersible heavy lift ship Hua Rui Long at anchor on a calm evening off Esquimalt Lagoon. This vessel was here for a week and provided interesting photo ops for a lot of people.

De Boreas, Van Oord's nieuwste offshore installatievaartuig, lag op 17 juni 2025 aangemeerd aan de Wilhelminakade in Rotterdam. Normaal maken cruiseschepen hier de dienst uit, maar voor de doop van de Boreas werd een uitzondering gemaakt. Met een hijscapaciteit van 3.200 ton, dual-fuel methanolmotoren en een reikwijdte van 155 meter is het 's werelds grootste en duurzaamste jack-up schip voor windturbine-installatie. Een indrukwekkend gezicht, in de schemering nog eens versterkt de tientallen lampen aan boord.
