Parked on a ramp of what is now called the San Bernardino International Airport (the former Norton Air Force base, some buildings of which are visible in the background at lower right). My girl and I were biking around the seemingly abandoned old field when we came upon this monster just sitting there. Quite the surprise!

Air Foyle HeavyLift was a Cargo company based in Bishop's Stortford, United Kingdom founded in 1978. It specialised in heavy air cargo services. It was the worldwide sales agent for Antonov Airlines of Kyiv, Ukraine. This relationship ceased in June 2006 and the company ceased operations.
N108BV (c/n 18940 l/n 439 series -323C) was delivered from the factory in August 1965 to American Airlines as N7561A. In April 1973 the aircraft was acquire dby Varif as PP-VLP. Retired, in September 1990 the plane was sold to ALGI leasing company as N108BV and leased to Heavy Lift in September and October 1990. The plane then continued its career with Buffalo AIrways until January 1994 when it was leased to Southwest Air Cargo. In October 1994 the aircraft was sold to Merchant Express as 5N-MXX. In November 1990 the plane was sold to Johnsons Air as 9G-LAD to be operated for different African companies until September 2006 when it was sold again to First International Airways.
Slide dated July 1990, the plane is being prepared for Heavylift and it still wears the Varig cheatline.

operated by Heavylift (UK) from 10/1980 until 1992 - stored and broken-up at Southend
The Short Belfast was a heavy lift turboprop freighter built by Short Brothers at Belfast. Only 10 were built for the British Royal Air Force with the designation Short Belfast C.1. When they were retired by the RAF, five went into civilian service with the cargo airline Heavy Lift Cargo Airlines. Two aircraft still exist, one is on display at the RAF Museum Cosford.
