NS 201 climbs out a dip and curve as it comes into Crimora VA. Thanks again for the headsup to Steve Bauer. Got him with about 2 minutes to spare!
Do you see that bird in the heat above the engine? Perhaps they do that to get warm? Seems to me that would be TOO warm. Isnt the exhaust from an engine really hot? Maybe its an optical illusion and the bird really isn't in the heat? I have no idea what I am seeing here. Just seems very hot to me.
Anyway, I met my dad at this location along the Rock River in Oregon, Illinois a couple weekend ago. Timing couldn't be better. I arrived, then my dad arrived about 3 minutes later, and after checking with the Trainut, found out a westbound was 10 minutes away.
We set up our tripods side by side and soon after could hear the blast of the distant train horn. A few more test shots and we were ready.
And there it was. The train. It's headlights leading the way into our photo op. We both started snapping frame after frame as the train crossed the bridge.
Anyone who knows me and/or my dad knows that he is the true rail fan. At 86 years old, his passion for trains and the stories are endless. I grew up in the shadow of that passion along with his passion for photography. It was such a keepsake moment for me to share this time with him. And even though I have photographed trains on this bridge in the past, I never photographed trains on this bridge with my dad. I dedicate this shot to my dad and to the memory of this day.
A big thank you to Clarke for the headsup about the train.
Norfolk Southern intermodal 201, with three UP motors, leans into a curve as it passes a signal at Dooms VA. Thanks to Steve Bauer for the Headsup on this one.
Catching up on some of my stuff, I know it's been awhile since I've posted here...but it's been awhile since I've done anything photography based. Life happens! Here's a few straggler shots from when the CofG came through on an NS224 a few months back. Thanks again to EA for the headsup on the unit being in the area!
Here's what the West end of the siding at DeWitt looks like, including the little pot signal for the siding. I figured I'd document it, even if there is no train. Maybe someday I'll catch a morning Eastbound here...someday...

....so I was dismantling a DIY structure in my tiny room to make room for Art and Lego, it all started with me unscrewing a single screw, then a second and so on...
after a while I thought: "Hey it would be a good idea if I collected them in some sort of container", so I looked around for something to put them in, first I though: "Hey I can used a plastic bag!"
But since logic and experience tells me that the sharp pointy end which many screws have (not all) would rip the think sheet of plastic separating them from the
surrounding word...
So I didn´t fall in to that black hole, I carried on looking around and found a small miniature plastic box toy in two parts and there I putt the screws released from the structure I was dismantling...
after a while the little box was all full, so I started screwing Screws at the corners of the box, I mean since screwing is what screws are really good at!
I did this because I wanted to make additional space to stack my screws in, then I carried on screwing newly released and unscrewed screws form my DIY arty farty structure...
in the end I ended up with this cute collection of screws in a plastic box that I just wanted to share with you :)
Peace and Noise!

Thanks to JL for the headsup.
Metra F59 90 leads the Milwaukee North Line doubleheader at Morton Grove. It came out of a big lunker and I almost got aced by a southbound who's cab car was even with me! Thanks to JD for the headsup. 90 still retains it's brown color from Cascade service.
Got a headsup from a coworker that NS 1070 and 1066 were leading seperate QNYCLAC's through Amarillo. 1066 showed up after dark Sunday night so i wasnt able to get photos of it, but NS 1070 was due in around 10 am. I got off work at 7 and after a doctors appointment, I went out to Mack Road at Haney and set up waiting for the train for about an hour before it showed up. After this it was off to bed for me.
This is the only way to describe the feeling when you get up to Slacker Ridge during the low fog phenomenon - Elation! It was one of the better displays of low fog this year, 3 days in the row and fortunately all the stars aligned - miraculously I was able to get out and shoot during that time and thanks to Willie for the headsup. We witnessed 2 days of beauty out of the 3. It was a good crowd and great company up on the ridge, we were a bunch of lucky bastards for sure.
This is 2 shot panorama because I wanted to incorporate the as much light streaks from both sides as possible. Hope you like it!
Westbound CP 281-28 leaves town much later than expected, with a newer KCS "Southern Belle" leader. Thanks to the 'Tower Kat' for the advance headsup. Morton Grove, IL on Metra/CP's C&M Subdivision.
First off a thanks to Curt for the headsup on the location of these units. After driving 500 miles on Thursday, it was nice to find them in Mt. Braddock and to get the photo op of catching them on this bridge. This was a large protion of the motivation for this trip to get the SWP on the Youghiogheny River Bridge at Greene Junction. As a child in the 50's, my grandfather and I would walk here for his Sunday walk. We got to see Western Maryland on their bridge in the area and B&O trains, particularly B&O coal trains crossing this trestle or the passenger coming through from Cumberland to Pittsburgh on the far side of the river. 4006 and 406 appear to be the newest members of the SWP lineup in the area. the abandoned bridge pier carried the Ohio and Baltimore trackage until shortly before WW2 when it was abandoned.
A pair of KCS Southern Belles comes around the curve at Howard St. on CP 804 train. Thanks to Joe Z. for the headsup!

A big thanks to Dick Hardy (SeGen) for the headsup on this working, which I noticed at 1445 whilst ringing the Doctor's & checking my e-mails about a prescription. This is my first picture of 37425, since it was repainted into Regional Railway's livery.
CP train 484 with GP38-2 3040 and an SD30 rolls around the curve at Howard St. in Des Plaines IL. Thanks to the Mastadon for the headsup on this guy!
After doing video only at Ferguson and gassing up for the anticipated chase west, the next spot that seemed to make sense was the water tower at Wentzville, since there would be a decent side-light option there. Well, that didn't take into account the new fence that has gone in...
Thanks to EA for the headsup on the unit being in the area!

However you celebrate the birth of spring...
I wish you and yours the happiest of times...
all of the love and the light.
No matter how you choose to celebrate the coming of spring...
we're all on the same journey.
The first of today's Golden Oldies, sees Inter City liveried 90011 "The Chartered Institute of Transport" passing Stratford on Thursday February 28th 1991 with 1M39, the 1113 RES service from Euston Down CS to Willesden NE Sdgs, which was formed of 16 Travelling Post Office vehicles, that required turning, prior to working that evening's Down West Coast Postal, due to the vehicles only having door's on one side.
The same locomotive can be photographed at Stratford in 2019, as it's part of Abellio Greater Anglia Fleet of Class 90's, working services from Liverpool Street to Norwich & return, as the "East Anglian Daily Times - Suffolk & Proud".
Result - "Plastic Crap" (Class 800's, 801's & 802's) have been banned from "Headsup". Shame they didn't say Yesterday, that 0Z12 was two 91's & not one!!!!!
Oh! That was a fun way to celebrate autumn! See you all next year!

You're probably wondering why up early & out in typical Bank Holiday weather (hopefully it improves for the C-17's later), but 92020 is my last active "Dyson" (other hoovers are available - thanks Tim Moran for the headsup), the diversions finish shortly & being a Bank Holiday/Half-term, there are no traffic jams in Hertford!
Time for another series wrap. The title popped into my head because I actually think it warned autumn was at an end. Here's another shot from last fall because this season's color turned to brown and I pointed the camera up. This after a world record setting hot and dry August and fall here in Kochistan. The river is over to the left in this shot. This is a shot at Golden Ponds. It is one of my favorite spots to catch really open skies at wide angle. This is from far from the fall of this year. We got a bonus back then. This was an autumn transition shot. Most of the trees have lost their color.
The light was starting to drip away but one cloud was a hold out, hold up. I was opening the aperture and slowing the shutter. This was the last sun scraping the tops of these clouds. The day was in transition. We were into November then and it was after 5:00 so the day was about to disappear into powder. Time to get a move on.

52 Weeks of Pix 2014, The Letter K
7DOS, Week #26 - More Than 10, Macro Monday
"52 In 52" - 1/52, The Letter K - It's the start of a new year so time for a new self-driven, mini-challenge - I must be mad! Thankfully I have a partner in crime, as it were, in the form of wonderful Susan, a.k.a. www.flickr.com/photos/46534600@N06/ - thank you for being so supportive and enthusiastic about this Sue!
I'm going to be pretty flat out from now until at least April as the Nomads are living up to their name and moving again in a few week's time, so I'm going to be reducing my Flickr time to just a few posts per week (or less whilst moving), including a self-driven "52 in 52 Weeks" project I'm doing (with at least 1 other Flickr contact). I will try to visit all my great contacts when I can grab a spare 5 minutes, but if all I do is fave your posts, please know that it's because I'm trying to stay in touch and not be a complete post-and-run.
Thank you in advance for any comments and/or favourites.
