In what can only be described as duller than the dullest of dull full dull shots, locomotive services limited class 47 no. 47853 (47614) leads Jeremy Hosking's private train south at Westwood Road, Atherstone, working 5Z82 Crewe Holding Sidings to London Victoria empty stock on 10th December 2020. BR Green liveried classmate no. 47805 was dead on the rear of the consist.
The rake was as follows: 6311 17159 310 3100 99993 6706.
Thanks Tim Moran for the headsup, as usual.
06:45, Saturday, December 31st, 2022. Wake up to the phone alarm. Check Messenger. Nothing. Shower. Check Messenger. Voice message at 07:09 from Gary L.: “…We have a nice treat on 101 this morning, it’s all EMD six-axle power. By me in West Palm Beach at seven ‘o eight AM…” Verify the power via VRF Cocoa live cam. It’s two SD40-2s. Get dressed. Pack up equipment. Bail out the back door and drive up to Dania Beach.
This really wasn’t the headsup I was expecting to receive on New Year’s Eve; I was anticipating a report on CSX M45330 and it’s CM44AH leader, but alas, a rarity on the Florida East Coast Railway takes priority once again. In another odd move by Bowden Yard, FEC 101-31 would have two of the railroads SD40-2’s act as power for one of last southbound freights to traverse the mainline in 2022. Word within inner circles state that the reason behind this decision was because of a lack of LNG sets in Bowden. #FEC715 leads the train, the unit being one of three former Union Pacific “Snoot Nose” SD40-2’s, a nickname derived from the locomotives’ extended noses. Photographed at the MP 347 curve, commonly referred to as the “Dania Curve” by local buffs, 101-31 had completed setting out one multi-platform IM car at Port Everglades a few minutes prior, now roaring south to Hialeah Yard with 101 cars and the two EMDs howling in run 8. Traffic for Hialeah Yard was compromised of empty rock and cement tubs, manifest, one autorack, and two IM cars.
There’s too many people I’d like to tag so I’ll keep it brief: thank you to everyone who made 2022 great to me!

"I has decided to take control of this catputer workstation for security reasons. I FINKS it might be getting used for illegal purposes - i.e. software pieracies by either Siri, Amanda-Yolanda Mousie or even both of them. Have they no sense of respect for intillectule properties?
No worries though, I'll give them a headsup if the Poleeces do turn up. If the Poleeces decide to interview them, my advice would be just to say that they know NOTHING AT ALL about these new-fangled catputer fings. (Editor's note - Yeah sure!) "
D1011 ‘Western Thunderer’ is seen on the bi-directional relief line at Gloucester New Yard with 6V53 empty China clay wagons from Cliffe Vale to St. Blazey. I originally had this as circa 1977, but following some research after a headsup from MD/CS, I believe this was taken sometime in 1975, and possibly just prior to its withdrawal from service that year.
NS 223 exits the siding at Gilmore after doing work at Wentzville. Thanks to a nice headsup by EA and some approximately 2 hours of work done here, I was able to get out this way in time. It appears there has been some major clearing of brush and other growth around this area, which has opened up some new shooting opportunities. I definitely need to get back out here again, hopefully earlier in the morning where the sun is better.
We will get back to Big Boy pictures again at some point (seeing as I have 3 more days of them to cover) but I have done a little "regular" foaming since then and I'll probably take a bit of time to put some of that stuff up for awhile to break up the monotony a bit.

just t a headsup a few wrighters have been robed out the back of the shawlane lately so if your heading up be careful...esspically younger lads....
You know, I’ve only ever shot anything on the NS Bloomington district once - by total accident. Now I can make that twice, and still by accident! What started as a day I just decided to get out of the house and grab of a photo of some equipment in Tolono turned into my first look at the signals on the NS line and a chase to remember.
Thanks to a headsup and some on-the-fly information from some friends, I was able to catch NS D36 flying through the CP at Osman at speed. A short hike alongside the right-of-way off of a small gravel road leads to Osman, home of a very nice set of searchlight signals. With SafeTran signals cropping up al over the line, it begs the question of just how long we'll have to shoot them.
Once the train blew through Osman, it was time to scurry back to the car and try to beat it to Lodge!
NS 224 with the CofG Heritage Unit leading comes off the St. Louis District and crosses allllll the way over at the Stamper interlocking and into the yards at Moberly.

I was going to say, that the morning shower clouds hadn't completely cleared and the containers were all at the end of the train (this posting yesterday made me laugh [first time in ages] "Not a full load of containers today - but the gaps are short and spaced out, so looks ok, I think. Front 2 wagons at least are fully loaded", but instead, I'll just say thanks to Alisdair & John for the headsup and thanks to Network Rail, becuase the shot wasn't available two weeks ago, until the abundant lineside vegetation was cleared!!!
Terrible light & very distant, taken from Island hide. The Golden Plover flock was covering one island so this is a record of just a few, at least they had their heads up instead of roosting. I tried to do a video sweep but it was not very good. Surprised to see a few Spoonbill's right @ far end of freshmarsh, as not seen any for a few weeks. Both shots @ full zoom (3000mm) in terrible murky light.
This is pretty backlit but I figured why not! Canadian Pacific SD60 6256 brings two mile long train 281 through Edgebrook. Thanks to JD for the headsup!
After picking up the chase in Ferguson, where I didn't bother to take shots -- there is video, though -- I caught it again in front of the Wentzville water tower (shots are "meh") and then didn't bother with anything else until the somewhat iconic location where the tracks cross above I-70, the at grade with old US 40, then pass a Wabash era Searchlight.
The sun was still pretty high here, but getting better. Just needed to be patient.

Not the best location to do a northbound photo at 1730 around here but I didn't have a lot of time - so it had to be the nearest !! 67005 'Queen's Messenger' and 67006 'Royal Sovereign' head into Churchdown with the Royal Train, which was running as 1Z91. The RT had passed through here earlier this afternoon en route to Kemble, where King Charles left the train. The RT then reversed, and returned to Gloucester (Platform 4 - reverse again), and then onto Wolverton via CNM and Nuneaton. Many thanks to JB for the headsup. 24th May 2024.
As I think the other part is 57833 (See next Picture), this would be 52833 !! Anyway, both parts 0f TFW's 158833 are seen heading south on the M5 at J11 after being collected from Barmouth yesterday, and presumably en route to Cardiff Canton. Thanks to my son, Martin for the headsup. 2nd June 2021.

The classic sound of English Electric loco leading the pack with Peaks at the rear.
The class 31s were originally built with Mirrlees JVS12T 1,250 bhp (930 kW) (D5500–D5519) and 1,365 bhp (1,018 kW) engines and Brush electrical equipment, but the engines were not successful and in 1964 D5677 was fitted with an English Electric 12SVT engine (similar to the 12CSVT used in the Class 37 but without an intercooler) rated at 1,470 bhp (1,100 kW). The trial proved successful, and between 1965 and 1969 the entire class was re-engined. The de-rated engine was used as it was the maximum the electrical system could accept

Thanks to Darren Ford for the headsup and slowing down for me to enable the freight train in the distance to pass. The man himself can be seen waving as he passes. Proof he does work, sometimes.
Timing worked out for me to catch the CSX OCS at Berea on May 28, 2015 on the way to catch a flight at the nearby Hopkins airport. Classy train and i was glad it worked out. Thanks to the NE Ohio network for the headsup ( you know who you are).
Once again, I got word of some re-routes from the Hannibal/Springfield District, including a 255. Since Roadrailers are becoming somewhat rare with only two trains in service and none usually passing through St. Louis, I found a way to sneak away from work for a bit and catch this westbound running past the Searchlights at Ferguson. Not even the very steady rain coming down at the time deterred me!
This would come almost 7 months to the day after I had caught an Eastbound Triple Crown re-route earlier this year. Thanks to Adam and Rich and Robbie for the headsup that this guy was headed my way!
