Playing with headlamps which we now use everyday on our walks. Unfortunately, they don't stay on the dogs' heads, so their humans have the honor of looking dorky while wearing them!

Cars today often have headlamps that are highly styled, but they were preceded 80+ years by this classic. I don't know how effective they were at lighting up the road, probably not very.

An LED headlamp is a necessity when walking your dog at night. And it comes in handy whenever you need your hands free to do other things in dark areas too!

In the middle of my timelapse sequence, a guy with a headlamp passed by. Even though the sequence was ruined, this photo turned out to be pretty cool.

A bit of a self portrait looking while to the stars.

Glaring headlamps from an approaching vehicle during a complete daytime blackout in the San Francisco Bay Area. A reddish-orange hue covered Bay Area skies during the day due to a combination of northern wildfires, intensified by a heat wave, and winds blowing from the northeast pulling smoke over the entire area.

I took this photograph in mid-morning on what would have otherwise been a crisp, beautiful summer day. It was one of the most extraordinary and startling occurences I have ever encountered and, hopefully, will never experience again.

Thank you for your interest. Enjoy!

The best part of snowshoeing is after you leave the trail. This pleasure is doubled if it is dark and you are in the trees. Shapes continually emerging out of the darkness. Soft snow underfoot. I feel like i'm wandering into Narnia.

Our headlamps provided some interesting illumination. Melissa is providing the side-lighting here. Donna was assisting where needed. Cara is in the shot - did you see her?

I headed out my first morning in Kauai to the beach with all my gear and a headlamp pointing the way. It was about 5:30am and sunrise was at 6:15am. I had scouted two foreground locations the evening before. One being the rocks in this shot and the other being a giant tree washed up on the beach. The tree shot I thought would work the best so I set up for the sunrise on the tree first. Blissfully alone until about 10 minutes before sunrise then people started coming out of the woodwork. With miles and miles of great beach in both directions I watched a yoga instructor set up shop right in front of the rocks. Bummer!

I took numerous shots of the washed up tree and headed for the rocks. Plopped my tripod and backpack a few feet from the annoyed yoga instructor. She shot me a "go to hell" look. So I got this shot then moved behind the class and snapped off a few more shots with Ms. Happy and her band of beach stretchers in the scene just to piss her off.

"Comp stomped" by a Yoga class.

I wanted to give the graduated filter in Lightroom 4 a try so I paid careful attention to get as much light out the shadows and not blow the clouds to pieces. So with only the sun "blinking" I used the digital graduated filter to bring the clouds back to life.
