Taken on Lake Two in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Northern Minnesota has a lot of decent places with low enough light pollution to view the milky way.
This gigantic old lamp was acquired on ebay. It has provision inside for two batteries as well as two exterior terminals for wiring to a dynohub, a 3 position switch on top & both dim & high beam bulbs.
At the top of the chrome shroud is a large brass badge which reads 'Sturmey Archer Dynohub Patents pending', Although this has proved impossible to photograph!
Does anyone have any rough idea how old this lamp might be?
EDIT: Early 1930's.
Petzl Tekkina 2 LED HeadLamp with CORE battery and 3 AAA battery option. The CORE battery (a great value) in this DICK's Sporting Goods Petzl gift package can be alternated with the 3 AAA battery pack for your needs. The CORE battery is USB charged from computer, car adapter or AC-USB adapter. It snaps on and off and despite the fragile look sturdily endures use and the battery pack change. Don't throw the battery pack or the triple A battery compartment away. Alternate them as desired/needed. Comes with 3 AAA batteries and USB charging cable with the CORE battery gift pack. [not waterproof - but reasonable resistant]. RECOMMENDED. The green light in this picture momentarily appears for battery level indication when the light is turned on. It can be alternated with the standard 3 AAA battery pack.
Perhaps it should be explained that the boys were hitching a ride on the back of a lorry and it was transporting two motor bikes.

My nephew (along with the rest of his family) got headlamps from my parents for Christmas. He was so fascinated by the light emanating from his forehead and walked around the whole day shining it in everyone's eyes.
