Taken during a photo walk around Vancouver, BC back in September. Metro Vancouver was engulfed in haze from the wildfires in BC and Washington back then. The sky was very bleak.

September 12, 2024 - This morning we had an optional excursion to Horseshoe Bend. "Horseshoe Bend has been featured as a landmark for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Grand Canyon National Park, the Cities of Page AZ, Kanab UT, St George UT, and the Navajo Nation. Boundary lines are very close in some places. Horseshoe Bend itself, and that part of the Colorado River, are a part of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. About nine miles downstream is where Grand Canyon National Park begins. US Highway 89, the land north of the trail to the Horseshoe Bend overlook, and the parking area for the trailhead are in the City of Page. The land south of the parking area and the trail and overlook are on the Navajo Nation. This mixture of jurisdictions provides a unique opportunity in the management of this magnificent trail and overlook." Previous text: www.nps.gov/glca/planyourvisit/horseshoe-bend.htm
Good-bye Pender Harbour!
TARA heads out of Pender Harbour into the smokey haze of Malaspina Strait on Day 12 of this journey. This will be a short day, only going from Pender Harbour to Secret Cove. When I have done this trip on other cruises I usually stop for a swim in Buccanneer Bay or at the North end of the Thornmanby Islands. Not this trip. The thick smoke made visibility very poor, and wasn't inviting for a dip.
Canadian wildfire smoke returned. What are the contributors? Bad forest management? Lack of firefighting resources? Global climate change?

My friend Kelsie recently did a solo hike to Marmot Pass and photographed this spectacular panoramic view of the mountains that all line up across this ridge; www.flickr.com/photos/mtngrl/7586294776/in/photostream
The impressive Mount Constance looms tall on the left side of my photograph. Interesting fact on how it was named. In 1853, surveyor George Davidson named three prominent peaks; Mount Ellinor, for the girl he was seeing, Mount Constance for Ellinor's sister and The Brothers, for Ellinor's two brothers. Looks like he covered his bases well!
My friend Jason and I (hiked this area three days after Kelsie) met and talked with several hikers while in this area and one gentleman said that this view could easily rival the Grand Teton's of Wyoming for sheer beauty. He has visited them on several occasions and came to this conclusion.
Yep-----I love the Olympics :)
Taken during a photo walk around Vancouver, BC back in September. Metro Vancouver was engulfed in haze from the wildfires in BC and Washington back then. The sky was very bleak. The flag at the HMCS Discovery Naval Reserve was at half-mast that day in honor of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II who had passed away six days earlier.
TARA tied up in one of my favourite places, a return visit to Lund. Lund is truly the jumping off place to Desolation Sound, and for boats heading back South.
another trip to another place, sun sets right in front of them at this time of year, D200/Sigma 17-70mm with a hama circular polorizing filter and a cokin ND4 grad filter

There was a lot of haze in the sky today, but I am posting these jet aircraft photos anyway. Besides cropping, I may have adjusted the lightness and contrast to compensate for all the haze in the sky. I rarely adjust photos.
The end of the 12th leg of TARA's summer cruise, "Secret Cove".
The smoke is still thick, I went for a long walk, which I usually do after I tie TARA up, but the smoke was so thick, it was burning inside my lungs as I climbed the hill from the Marina, My eyes were watering. Not a good way to end a day on the water.
Good night Secret Cove!
The Sun disappears behind the trees of "Turn Around Again Island" in the thick smoke.
Lund after dark.
The harsh Sodium Vapour lights of a harbour after dark make for some interesting photos, especially with a Crescent Moon hovering over head.

June 18, 2017 - Our next stop was a visit and walk on the Xi'an City Wall. "At 12 meters high and 15 meters wide, the 14-kilometer-long Xi'an City Wall is the most complete ancient city wall in China" previous text from an article from CNN published in 2015.
