Mount Baker in Washington State stands tall in her winter finest. View from Sumas Way in Abbotsford, B.C. The odd clouds behind the peak was there for several hours this afternoon. Very ethereal!
At this evening the sky at the west coast of Koh Samui has been so hazy and the sun had already disappeared being the bank of haze and clouds at the horizon. I didn’t expect to get a good shot. But then the sun appeared again as a big pink ball behind the pale steely blue sky for a few seconds, before it was finally setting behind the small island.

A hazy afternoon view of the Golden Ears Mountains in Maple Ridge, B.C.
After a few days without rain the haze builds up and can really be seen in the afternoon light.
Late evening with a haze over the mountains and a glimpse of 3 tall Condo Towers high up in the hills and views of other homes lower down the hillside.
The area is part of the British Properties of West Vancouver, BC.
Last September, we arrived back at our campsite in Atlantic Canada to gale force winds blowing ashore with a salty haze in the air. It seemed to diffuse the light and created an impossibly bright orange sunset that was a sight to behold. Here, I used a longer lens to zoom in through the haze and isolate that amazing light.
Standing on the Lake Erie southern shore at Magee Marsh, we are looking across the lake to the most prominent structure to the east, the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant. Water cooling the reactor is released as the steam shown in this picture.
Davis-Besse, opened in 1978, has a history plagued with numerous equipment and structural failures that have caused shutdowns. Two of the top five most dangerous safety incidents in the U.S. have occurred at this plant.
It's also been the center of corruption scandals involving payoffs to Ohio state representatives for help in passing a bill to provide subsidies for the plant. That resulted in prison sentences for several of the politicians.
But Davis-Besse still functions in 2025 despite its controversial past, and its loss of competitive edge to cheaper natural gas-powered electricity plants in Ohio.
"As if 2020 isn’t weird enough, it’s a year with 13 full moons rather than 12 — and two of these will occur in October.
October’s first full moon is the harvest moon on October 1, and the second full moon will occur on October 31. [...].
The full harvest moon will rise at 5:05 pm ET on October 1. The name is given to the full moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox. While this full moon usually occurs in September, a full moon on September 2 was too early to be known as the harvest moon. [...].

PS I am happy with this shot as US wildfire smoke is again creating hazy skies over Vancouver.
where will you be at the end of the day ? when the glorious sun sinks low , when colors fade to black , when the songbirds last notes ring lone , when all nature bows to the lunar shadows ... Where will you be at the end of the day ?
I did nothing to this except crop a little out...
I shot these sandhill cranes (Antigone canadensis, Gruidae) in bright backlighting at sunset. The original image had a moody glow to it. I liked the Raw image but wanted a bit more of an aesthetic effect. To achieve the desired look, I used the haze filter in ACR going to the negative side. I like it.

The skies are hazy with smoke from Alberta fires. Correction: I heard on the news that this haze is due to wildfires in Northern Ontario and Quebec.

Hazy sunset seen in Mississauga (Streetsville), Ontario today.
Distant wildfires are contributing to the haze, which made the Sun appear as a red planet.

The rhythmic sound of crashing waves, the salty breeze, and the shimmering water draw the mind into a peaceful state, offering a perfect moment for reflection or relaxation, while the dynamic beauty of the sea can provide a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Engaging with such scenery can boost mood, promote mindfulness and evokes a sense of tranquility and connection to nature, making it an ideal activity for peacefulness and vitality restoration.

Puddles and ponds to get reflections of buildings are not that common in Melbourne but outside the National Gallery is this pond where I was able to get some reflection of the Arts Centre Spire next door.. For Rodney Chester who does these types of shots superbly.

Taken during a photo walk around Vancouver, BC back in September. Metro Vancouver was engulfed in haze from the wildfires in BC and Washington back then. The sky was very bleak. Featured in Explore on October 14th 2022.
Image post-processed in Apple's Photos editor. Haze removal was then performed in the Polarr Lite image editor.
These interesting structures are fenced in and are part of the Urban Artwork on an island surrounded by traffic going up to the Citlink Freeway. I've wanted to see these for awhile but the fence mean't I had to stick the camera through the gap in the gate.www.architectureanddesign.com.au/features/comment/beyond-.... With our FFF+ group

The smoke from the fires in the west are definitely affecting our sunrises. I took this photo a few hours ago!
A view looking to the southwest across the Teklanika River at the namesake rest stop and overlook to more distant mountain peaks in Denali National Park & Preserve. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 and then used the ClearView tool to reduce some of the haze present.
The Raspberry bushes sit dormant in the Winter weather at Abbotsford, B.C. No Raspberries for a few months!
Mount Baker during the golden hour on a hazy summer day. I never get tired of looking at this mountain, which can be seen from our house.
A side of a nearby mountain and then distant jagged peaks of another. One crossed the other to lead to a stepping stone type of layout to this image. The view is looking to the southeast between Stony Creek and the Stony Hill Scenic Overlook while on the main park road in Denali National Park & Preserve. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3. I was then able to work with the ClearView tool to clear up some of the haze still present that late afternoon from the recent wildfires in that area.
Washington State Ferry leaving the Edmonds Terminal. Lots of smoke in the air from the fires in Canada.
Wildfire smoke drifted into the area, creating hazy skies and poor air quality. The usual vibrant colors of Moraine Lake were muted, but it gave a whole new mood perfect for black-and-white photography. - Moraine Lake, Banff National Park, Canada (2017)
Along the way in Langley is an active Dairy farm. Corn is grown here as cattle feed. At this time of year only the stubble remains.
While on the main park road heading into Denali National Park & Preserve with a view to the southeast around the Cathedral Mountain area. What drew me into this setting was the rolling terrain that continued on for miles before coming to peaks off in the distant horizon. By angling my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward, I was able to create a more sweeping view across this national park landscape. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 that I’d recently purchased after moving away from Capture NX2.
The skyscraper building spree continues with more and more tall buildings rising around Melbourne. I counted 19 cranes when standing in Federation Square recently!
On a recent FFF+ outting to the city! So lovely to go out with our group!
There are a Few Places You Can Drive or Enjoy One with Mountains All Around
I’ve been to many in Colorado, Montana and Alberta...all were a joy and many time visited
Now I add Denali and its national park.
Named and unnamed peaks rising above me like towering titans from an age long ago
They know I’m smiling; it’s always obvious
Snow peaks while others have lines showing period of eons settled over time
A tundra stretches as far as my eye could see
And a wildness of life continues on with the daily journey.
Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one late afternoon in Denali National Park & Preserve while enjoying sights on the bus ride out to North Face Lodge. As I wrote out in prose style, I saw mountains all around that ride; that’s what I focused on for this image looking to the southeast not far from the Eielson Visitor Center. I wanted to capture that view of the glacial valley with the folds and cuts across the landscape leading up to the nearby ridgelines with its spurs and draws. Finally the eye would come to the snow packed mountain peaks of the Alaska Range in the national park.
