September 11, 2024 - A view of the Grand Canyon from Desert View on the east rim. The sky was very hazy today and it was attributed to the smoke of a forest fire burning in the Southwest.
June 16, 2017 - A visit to the Forbidden City or the Palace Museum (Gugong). Construction began in the Ming Dynasty in 1406 and was completed in 1420. The Forbidden City is now a museum and it opened to the public in 1949. In 1987 it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For more information please do a search online. Beijing, China.
The beautiful and clean "Salish Orca" leaves the Westview Terminal of it's last run across Georgia Strait to Comox.

The engine that powers Powell River's economy, the huge pulp and paper mill, with additional sawmills. This area handles huge ocean going cargo ships that move product around the world.

After a log motoring cruise in the think smokey haze Cape Cockburn and Nelson Island come into fairly clear view.
Nearing the end of Leg 10 of this cruse, Powell River-Westview.
The North Island Princess moves through the smokey haze to the Westview Terminal.
One of the draws of Secret Cove Marina is the "Upper Deck" Restaurant. I have enjoyed meals here on past cruises, and they were first rate, certainly on a par with some of the better restaurants in Vancouver, Unfortunately medical issues have kept the Chef out. I hope things turn around, Lymphoma is a very evil disease.

"Horseshoe Bend has been featured as a landmark for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Grand Canyon National Park, the Cities of Page AZ, Kanab UT, St George UT, and the Navajo Nation. Boundary lines are very close in some places. Horseshoe Bend itself, and that part of the Colorado River, are a part of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. About nine miles downstream is where Grand Canyon National Park begins. US Highway 89, the land north of the trail to the Horseshoe Bend overlook, and the parking area for the trailhead are in the City of Page. The land south of the parking area and the trail and overlook are on the Navajo Nation. A Canadian Airforce Cormorant Search and Rescue helicopter flies overhead. I actually saw this helicopter several times, and heard it long after dark.
The cruise south was inside a thick viel of smoke, and virtually no wind.
The smoke doesn't make for pretty photos but this was the reality in British Columbia in the summer of 2018.

Getting near to Pender Harbour, crossing the entrance to Agamemnon Channel, and the smoke seems to be lightening up.
