Lund after dark.
The harsh Sodium Vapour lights of a harbour after dark make for some interesting photos, especially with a Crescent Moon hovering over head.
A very spring-like day at Coliemore Harbour with hazy skies. Less sunshine than previous days but the lack of wind was still a blessing!
Sumu Jaran Lake and Badain Jaran Desert Temple under misty blue sky-leeward foot of the sand megadune shaping its west shore-seen from the dunes on the east bank. Alxa Plateau-Inner Mongolia-China.
The rain finally paused but wildfire smoke poured in from Canada. The distant hills could not even be seen. A lot of extremes are going on.

Good-bye Pender Harbour!
TARA heads out of Pender Harbour into the smokey haze of Malaspina Strait on Day 12 of this journey. This will be a short day, only going from Pender Harbour to Secret Cove. When I have done this trip on other cruises I usually stop for a swim in Buccanneer Bay or at the North end of the Thornmanby Islands. Not this trip. The thick smoke made visibility very poor, and wasn't inviting for a dip.
A look at the hazy skies hovering over Two Bridges and the lower Manhattan skyline. As I sail to Pier 11 / Wall St. on NYC Ferry we can see another NYC Ferry vessel travel up the East River.
The end of Leg 11: TARA tied up at John Henry's Marina, Pender Harbour.
This is the first time in many visits to Pender Harbour that I tied up at John Henry's, and I do like this spot. My one complaint is that TARA's berth was totally exposed to the wake of boats blasting by until after sunset. There was a lot of Rocking and Rolling!
Unfortunately the Cafe was closed, which is one of the draws to John Henry's. Maybe on my next visit I will be able to enjoy the Cafe.
September 11, 2024 - A view of Grand Canyon from the Desert View Watchtower. The sky was very hazy today and it was due to the smoke of a forest fire burning in the Southwest.
A great sunset over Sandymount. This provides me with good hope for those fantastic summer days to come and especially those 😍 sunsets at Burrow Beach. Hurry up already!

Good night Secret Cove!
The Sun disappears behind the trees of "Turn Around Again Island" in the thick smoke.
Taken during a photo walk around Vancouver, BC back in September. Metro Vancouver was engulfed in haze from the wildfires in BC and Washington back then. The sky was very bleak.
September 12, 2024 - This morning we had an optional excursion to Horseshoe Bend. "Horseshoe Bend has been featured as a landmark for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Grand Canyon National Park, the Cities of Page AZ, Kanab UT, St George UT, and the Navajo Nation. Boundary lines are very close in some places. Horseshoe Bend itself, and that part of the Colorado River, are a part of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. About nine miles downstream is where Grand Canyon National Park begins. US Highway 89, the land north of the trail to the Horseshoe Bend overlook, and the parking area for the trailhead are in the City of Page. The land south of the parking area and the trail and overlook are on the Navajo Nation. This mixture of jurisdictions provides a unique opportunity in the management of this magnificent trail and overlook." Previous text: www.nps.gov/glca/planyourvisit/horseshoe-bend.htm
September 11, 2024 - The Cameron Suspension Bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
"In March of 1911, Congress appropriated $90,000 for construction of a bridge built by the Midland Bridge Co. for the Office of Indian Affairs.
“At that time, there were hardly any cars,” Carson said. “It was a bridge for the Navajo people. The bridge was the earliest safe crossing of the river. It was meant for walking across with your cattle or your sheep.”
There's even a story that in 1937 a large herd of sheep crossing the bridge caused it to sway badly and nearly collapse, leading to some repairs to shore it up.
The Cameron Construction Bridge is an engineering marvel that played a large role in Arizona’s growth, according to an Arizona State Historic Preservation Office report.
According to the report, the bridge “is significant for its association with the initial growth of Arizona’s highway system as a major bridge which opened the northern portion of the state to development … A hybrid of suspension and truss forms, the bridge has engineering significance as the oldest surviving highway suspension bridge in the state and that utilized novel engineering techniques to cross the wide canyon of the Little Colorado River. Decades passed, technology advanced and foot traffic gave way to large vehicles. By the mid-1950s this became a problem as the old bridge was not capable of carrying heavy construction equipment needed to build the Glen Canyon Dam." June 18, 2017 - Our next stop was a visit and walk on the Xi'an City Wall. "At 12 meters high and 15 meters wide, the 14-kilometer-long Xi'an City Wall is the most complete ancient city wall in China" previous text from an article from CNN published in 2015.

Good-bye Secret Cove!!Heading back into Malaspina Strait and towards Welcome Passage.
The wind is picking up, maybe the smoke will go away!
The end of the 12th leg of TARA's summer cruise, "Secret Cove".
The smoke is still thick, I went for a long walk, which I usually do after I tie TARA up, but the smoke was so thick, it was burning inside my lungs as I climbed the hill from the Marina, My eyes were watering. Not a good way to end a day on the water.
Entering Manson Passage between Hernando and Savary Islands. This is very shallow passage, and in the smokey haze it was tricky to pick out the markers. I was dependant on my my depth sounder and GPS to find my way safely through. The wind was light, so with my trusty Yamaha outboard running I safely navigated through.
