The Taj Mahal is in fact an architectural complex and not just the one building. It stands in a formally laid-out walled garden entered through a pavilion and comprises of five main elements: The Mausoleum (which is what most people know as the Taj Mahal) with four minarets, The Mosque, The Rest House or the Response placed to the sides to give it symmetry.

To the west of the Mausoleum on a plinth stands The Mosque which is made from red sandstone and measures 210 feet in length and 90 feet in width. It has a marble facing which provides a contrast of colours and has one dominant portal, with smaller portals on each side. Opposite is The Rest House which is a mirror of The Mosque.

The Yellow Peril, formally known as "The Vault" is one of Melbourne's iconic and controversial pieces of art. It is now found outside the new Australian Centre for Contemporary Arts (ACCA) along with this red City Link vent chimney/tower.

The first time I saw this old barn was last year, on 18 July 2016, when my daughter and I did a bit of exploring north-east of Calgary. Yesterday, 17 September 2017, after noticing snowflake icons in the weather forecast for Calgary this week (which have now disappeared), I decided I would do a similar drive, but not as far as Drumheller this time. Actually, I still drove quite a bit further than I had intended - 346 km, 215 miles. If I had had enough self-discipline, I would have left home much earlier, as it was 11:20 am when I finally got into my car.

My intention was to drive a few back roads, searching for old barns. Most of my drive was on highways, simply for the purpose of saving time, so it wasn't till I was more or less at the furthest point that I actually saw a barn. I couldn't see a sign pointing to this place, so it took me a while to find the hilly, gravel road leading to it. By this time, unfortunately, there was a haze over the landscape and the light was very poor - as you can tell by the white sky. Having driven so far, I was determined to take photos. Though this photo was OK in the original shot, I added a touch of filter in post-processing, to really bring out more detail in the wood. I love this barn, but was saddened to see that the roof at the back of the sloping part on the right had collapsed a lot more than when I had seen it in 2016. As with any beautiful old barn, it will be a sad day when this one finally collapses.

While I was standing there, taking photos of the grain elevator that stands nearby, a farmer came down to the gravel road on his tractor (?) and stopped to have a pleasant chat. I guess I could have asked for permission to walk closer to the barn, but it is not on his property. Anyway, I never go close to barns or go inside, as I never ask for permission. That doesn't stop a lot of photographers, but I can't do it. This barn is next to the road.

I told this pleasant man that I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere, and he said that we WERE in the middle of nowhere, ha. I was planning to go back the same way I had come, but he told me that there was an old house the other way, that people photograph. That changed my mind, though I knew I would continue to feel in the middle of nowhere. Definitely worth it, as I also came across a site of old, abandoned miners' cabins before reaching the old house. When coal was no longer mined, the area was left and the railway lines were torn up at a later date.

One other abandoned house I passed yesterday was one that my daughter and I had found last year. It was built among the rolling hills, far, far away from any road, and is a very impressive sight. This year, they were doing road work repair by a bridge just a matter of feet away from the only possible place to pull over and stop. Thankfully, I was still able to stop and take photos. Heat haze/distortion didn't help when I zoomed in fully, but I should be able to rescue one or two of my photos later.

Altogether, a good few hours out. Though I didn't see a lot, the things I did see were most welcome and appreciated. I was glad to get in one more long drive before 'the white stuff' arrives and keeps me close to home. Still tired out a full day later - these drives knock me out!

The view of the Holy Land from Syagha, the highest point of Mount Nebo; unfortunately as you can see, it was not a day for a good view.

Mount Nebo (Arabic: جبل نيبو‎ Jabal Nībū; Hebrew: הַר נְבוֹ‎ Har Nevo) is an elevated ridge in Jordan, approximately 817 metres (2,680 ft) above sea level, mentioned in the Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land. The view from the summit provides a panorama of the Holy Land and, to the north, a more limited one of the valley of the River Jordan. The West Bank city of Jericho is usually visible from the summit, as is Jerusalem on a very clear day. According to the final chapter of the Book of Deuteronomy, Moses ascended Mount Nebo to view the Land of Israel, that he would never enter, and to die; he was buried in an unknown valley location in Moab (Deuteronomy 34).

This Photograph shows a view from the South Point Park in Miami Beach, looking towards Fisher Island on the South and Downtown Miami on West. The Pilot Boat seems to be headed out the Inlet past the Port of Miami in Biscayne Bay. The name Biscayne, on the Bow of this Boat, appears to be Name of the Boat. I believe that this Boat is used to guide ships In & Out of the Inlet between the Port and the Atlantic Ocean. The Tires on the side are used as Fenders to prevent damage when pushing another boat or ship. The Red & White Flag is a signal flag, however I don't have a listing for the meanings of Signal Flags.

Also, there is a Tug Boat and a Ferry on the far side of the Pilot Boat.

NOTE: The location that I show on the flickr™ Map are not the Pilot Boats Location, but rather the approximate Point on the Miami Beach Shore Walkway where I took the Photographs from.

Several Cruise Ships are getting ready to start leaving the Port and my Cruise Ship Photographs will follow my photographs South Pointe Park Pier.

Jeff Smith, Solar Eclipse at Sunrise No. 2, 2020, inkjet print, $275

This partial solar eclipse proved quite the blessing as the moon covered a small portion of the sun during sunrise over Ohio skies. For me, departing into the darkness, I was saddened to discover a cloud-filled morning twilight. Fortunately, at sunrise, the clouds thinned for ten minutes before one of the heaviest fogs of the year rolled through the Miami Valley. In these few moments, and amid the still and damp air, I enjoyed this enchanting scene.

Canadian wildfire smoke has impacted our area for days. Air quality advisories were issued for over a dozen states. Rain and a wind direction change are overdue.

Although much of the Mendocino Coast of Northern California is very rugged, rocky and steep, these accessible sandy beaches extend for miles in this area. And a State Park -- Mackerricher -- affords trails and camping, with easy access to view beach and wildlife.

Panorama view of our very hot, humid and hazy sunset today from Highland Farms in Cornish.

The temperature hit 93.7°F here this afternoon but with the high humidity it felt more like 103°F, very oppressive and the air quality was poor due to all the tree pollen, not a nice day at all.

Unfortunately due to the fires in the Cascade Range my trip to Oregon was quite smokey. This is actually the better day of the two in this beautiful national park.

I love being able to sneak out as often as I can to grab a quick nine holes. This is not only a great way to relax at the end of the day, but it is a beautiful way to enjoy the Coachella Valley. It is even better when I am the only one on a closed course, and I am listening to some Bebel Gilberto while playing.

Smoggy sunset in earlier June 2023 as a result of major wildfires in northern Canada and the after affects made it all the way down here in western/central Ohio. The sun was really red, wished this photo I took showed the sun reddish.
