Good Nigth Pender Harbour! The Sun sets at the end of day 11 on this cruise.

September 11, 2024 - We had an unscheduled stop at Navajo Moenave Dinosaur Tracks located in Navajo Nation. "Dinosaur Bone Joe" showed us the dinosaur fossils including: footprints, a skull, legs and even dinosaur eggs.

"Bring out your inner-child and go pounce and stomp among real dinosaur footprints! You might even want to invite your actual child to come along for this long-awaited, adventure opportunity. Just 70 miles outside of Flagstaff in Tuba City, located in the Navajo Nation, is a place where evidence of dinosaurs can be experienced first-hand. There are no glass exhibits with carefully cut, stone pieces of fossilized footprints; just actual dinosaur tracks all over a section along the bench below Hamblin Ridge.

These dinosaur tracks were formed in the early Jurassic period, approximately 200 million years ago and have been verified by paleontologists from Northern Arizona University. The specific type of dinosaur that left these footprints cannot be determined, therefore these are called "trace fossils". Trace fossils are classified by the shape of the prints and the type and layer of the rock the fossil is found on, which determines its age. With this information, it can be assumed these footprints belonged to the carnivorous dinosaurs Eubrontes, Grallator, Coelophysis kayentakatae or Dilophosaurus wetherilli." Survivor (Autumn 2017)

June 28, 2017 - Shooting from my cabin balcony docked in Baidicheng, China. Later today we sail through the famous Yangtze River Gorges aboard Victoria Jenna.

The orange glow of the sun as it sinks through the smokey haze over the Malaspina Strait

Wildfire smoke from Quebec reached its peak in this area when I took this photo.

It has been too dry here, too. The haze did filter the sunlight and helped make my photos turn out better.

September 12, 2024 - This morning we had an optional excursion to Horseshoe Bend. "Horseshoe Bend has been featured as a landmark for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Grand Canyon National Park, the Cities of Page AZ, Kanab UT, St George UT, and the Navajo Nation. Boundary lines are very close in some places. Horseshoe Bend itself, and that part of the Colorado River, are a part of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. About nine miles downstream is where Grand Canyon National Park begins. US Highway 89, the land north of the trail to the Horseshoe Bend overlook, and the parking area for the trailhead are in the City of Page. The land south of the parking area and the trail and overlook are on the Navajo Nation. This mixture of jurisdictions provides a unique opportunity in the management of this magnificent trail and overlook." Previous text: www.nps.gov/glca/planyourvisit/horseshoe-bend.htm

September 11, 2024 - Cameron Trading Post located at 466 US-89, Cameron, Arizona.

"A Swayback suspension bridge was erected over the Little Colorado River in 1911 creating the first easy access over the gorge. Soon after, two brothers, Hubert and C.D. Richardson established Cameron Trading Post, visited at that time only by the Navajo & Hopi locals to barter their wool, blankets, & live-stock for dry goods.

A trip to the post to trade could take days of travel by horse-drawn wagon. Guests were always treated as family, fed & housed by the trading post during their stay. As traders, the brothers were more than merchants. Understanding local dialects & customs, they were trusted by the local Native American people in matters concerning confusing new American legal & social systems. Over time as roads improved & interest in the area grew, The Cameron Trading Post’s convenience to the Grand Canyon & other intriguing areas made it popular for other travelers as well. Cameron’s philosophy of hospitality accommodated these changes while maintaining its role in the local community.

Cameron Trading Post has existed more than a century and the people who work here have done so for generations. The president of the company is himself descended from the original founders, maintaining the philosophy of hospitality and respect evident in the operation of Cameron Trading Post today." Aubrac, Aveyron, August 2011

The cruise south was inside a thick viel of smoke, and virtually no wind.

The smoke doesn't make for pretty photos but this was the reality in British Columbia in the summer of 2018.

June 18, 2017 - Our next stop was a visit and walk on the Xi'an City Wall. "At 12 meters high and 15 meters wide, the 14-kilometer-long Xi'an City Wall is the most complete ancient city wall in China" previous text from an article from CNN published in 2015.

September 11, 2024 - A view of the Colorado River as it flows through the Grand Canyon from Desert View on the east rim. The sky was very hazy today and it was attributed to the smoke of a forest fire burning in the Southwest.

, Seafront, Eastbourne, England, United Kingdom, UK

An August afternoon on the shingle beach at Eastbourne, England, captures a classic British seaside scene. Numerous wooden groynes stretch into the English Channel, designed to protect the coastline and create sheltered areas for bathers. People are seen enjoying the late afternoon sun, relaxing on the beach, and swimming in the calm waters. Along the seafront, a mix of grand Victorian-era buildings and more modern structures line the promenade, reflecting Eastbourne's history as a popular resort town. In the distance, a historic Martello Tower, part of Britain's Napoleonic-era coastal defenses, stands guard, adding a layer of historical depth to the picturesque landscape.
