Shelling all those hazelnuts was worth it!

all of a sudden my hazelnut trees grew big and tower over me, hardly distinguishable from the alders (to which they are related) except for the fact it is finally growing nuts. The nut is inside the flower pod you see in the photo...the pod will become a husk and come off later I have 4 of these 2 different varieties

Notes: M's dessert. This was like a bunch of candy bars stacked atop one another. No way could you cut down through the layers and eat them together. So you end up having to disassemble much of the stack and eating some of the sections separately. M agreed with me that this was not a good dessert. The best thing about it was the delicious Piedmont hazelnut ice cream.

Dan and I went to a little cafe in NYC between classes. They had these beautiful pastries and we just had to buy one. It was a complete mouth orgasm and I can't wait to go back and try some more.
