It's THAT time of the year once again and every squirrel in Stanley Park zooms in on the delights of hazelnuts tumbling from the tree every few seconds; the wee animals were going NUTS!

The expression on the Eastern Gray squirrel's facesyas it all as he reaches the nut. The outer cover is so sharp and prickly - but they manage to chew through it with ease - I can barely stand to pick them up!

"Blackie" on the right had chased his treasure clear across the paved path and finally landed on it - he's a sub-species of the Eastern Gray that was introduced to Vancouver in 1909.

Welcome to Hazelnut's Kingdom!

a place of pleasure and nature. That's why we thank you for your trust and we will do everything to satisfy your stay.

Hazelnut's Kingdom is an area located on the Noubeillane estate, which means in Occitan "the house of hazelnuts". Occitan is still spoken in the south of France and our domain is inspired by the spirit of a mountainous region in the Ariegean Pyrenees.

And, yes, autumn is slowly approaching...

There is a street in the neighbourhood where they have a hazelnut-tree-alley. It seems to be a very fruitful autumn this year - masses of nuts lying under the trees and there are still lots on the branches. The squirrels will be happy! :)

Day 29/365

My son bought some Hazelnuts today. As we don't have a nut cracker, he used a meat pounder/tenderiser to smash them open. Needless to say, we had hazelnuts flying everywhere.

Hazelnut is a Snowshoe Siamese that we were able to save from going to the shelter. She's an outdoor kitty and not always easy to capture. Today, she posed for me.

Is there anything better in winter than hazelnuts?

Hazel is absolutely addicted to hazelnuts. Sometimes she also likes grapes or carrots and of course walnuts, but hazelnuts: always! (Squirrels-2019-9088.jpg)

Yep, Hazelnut came home with me today!:) She is very hyper... Right now she is running on her wheel...XD She is so small...

Having given an offering of free hazelnuts, this delightful red squirrel duly came to investigate and pose for us as it did so. This was at the Formby National Trust Woodland in Merseyside.

No cats around these days, so the squirrels are in full control. Well, they didn't really care about the local cats, ti was more the other way around.
