Bad Wolf (Doctor Who reference)
The hate group / cult that calls itself Westboro Baptist Church showed up at the Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington, TX on Sunday Jun 11. They came to express their hatred of Baptists (despite the name of their cult, they aren't actually baptists). They also hate Jews, Gays, Catholics, Obama, the Swedish, comic books, and America in general. Local residents from all over DFW banded together to counter protest.
This boy did not like tummy time, and now he sleeps on him stomach all the time. Another scan of an older photo.
The Colorbok papers worked so well with the photo, I thought. I punched circles and then added the patterned paper behind the circles.

How is this intolerance STILL going on? I am Roman Catholic, but I believe the Bible was written not by God, but by men with their own agendas. It is so sad that it is so misinterpreted. The God I believe in loves us all and made us in His image - they way He wanted us to be.

The concept behind these ones are also bullying. There is too much hate in this world, and we need to learn to love and respect one another:) Also with world peace, which is just a bigger less direct form of bullying, because us and other countries destroy the lives of innocent people, and I wish more than anything that there was just no hate in the world.
I'll be using this for week eight, and i'll have to upload my week seven later because I don't have it on my home computer or any editing software nor time to edit it. But it is a picture I took of my boyfriend at Northern State Hospital. I'll be uploading it once it's finished, I'm having more difficulties with it than i had expected.

Hate Annual

I have read very little of Peter Bagge's material, the first being his work for Marvel Comics, The Megalomaniacal Spider-Man, the second being the subject of this review, Hate Annual #4. I have to confess to a misconception of Hate. I expected it to be chock-full of profanity and sophomoric high jinx.
There was very little of either.
The first story highlights Buddy Bradly. Buddy is the owner/operator of a second-hand shop. With a wife and child, however, he feels that he needs a new job, with more security. Enter "UPS." Buddy gets the delivery job with the help of a friend, but soon discovers that damaging merchandise, then claiming it as "undeliverable," is regular practice among some of his colleagues. While he initially complains about this behavior, he eventually comes into a moral dilemma of his own, regarding a Simpsons Collector's Plate. Meanwhile, Buddy's wife, Lisa, acts as his moral conscience, and wants him to go back to working in his store.
Also included is a story involving another character named Lovey, a red-headed, loud-mouthed young lady, who, upon throwing a party in her home, discovers she can't stand the "cool" people she thought she liked.
The second story offers very little in entertainment value, but I enjoyed the Buddy Bradley tale. Bagge's cartoony, exaggerated art style may take getting used to for some, but is charming in it's own way, and may appeal to fans of Mad magazine and the like.
What I didn't expect was Bagge's real-life stories about his coverage of the 2003 Reform Party Convention, and 2000 Democratic National Convention (both containing comic panels illustrating important moments of those accounts), and his write-up about the "teen pop music craze," which included an interview with Fredrik Thomander of Epicentre Productions.
Unusual findings for a comic book, but not altogether uninteresting.
Hate is suggested for older readers, due to some profanity. Find it at your local comic shop.

School Should Take Place in the Real World
Many kids hate school. There is little captivating about writing a paper that will be thrown in the garbage after a grade is written on it with a red pen. There is not much real-world application found by sitting in rows in complete silence, being released from class by a factory bell, and listening to someone talk for an hour about topics that have no relevance to your current and future life. This method of education was created for a period in history that has long passed; yet this is exactly what one sees in the majority of American schools. Education needs to be authentic. School should not just apply to the real world, but actually be the real world. Everything a student does in a classroom should have purpose: tangible, community-altering, authentic purpose. Authenticity creates engagement, engagement creates better students, and better students create better citizens. Authenticity also creates better test scores, if you are into that sort of thing.

Trevor is a teacher, storyteller, and spoken-word poet. He teaches at Kent Innovation
High School, a project-based learning school that uses integrated technology,
collaboration, and hands-on learning to model a more effective way of doing
education—all without textbooks. He is part of the team that has earned his school the
title of National Demonstration Site for public schools. He is a certified trainer for the
New Tech Network, an international network of Project -Based Learning schools with
the initiative of reforming education. Trevor serves on the board at Aquinas College in
Grand Rapids, MI, introducing new ideas and perspectives to their school of education.
He is part of the Michigan Department of Education Personalized Learning Initiative; a
group focused on implementing project-based learning and personalized learning into
Michigan public schools. His spoken-word poem, “Coming Alive at 14” was featured in
the Huffington Post.
