Near Spring time last year in my woods, a log fell in a small ditch and water filled in over it, the froze in the winter. Spring time, I must venture a vague guess, caused the moss seeds (?) near the surface on the iced-in tree seem to have started growing UNDERNEATH the ice!!! Then they kept growing until they poked through the top layer, as seen detailed by auto-macro mode in my photo. I don't know, I just thought this seems an absract phenomena to me.
