Marble Canyon is the second hardest place to reach at the Death Valley National Park in California, behind the extremely hard to reach Racetrack Playa (a place we could not visit on this trip due to the access being shut down).

You reach Marble Canyon after an hour of bone-rattling drive on a dirt road totally conditioned by the Washboard effect. No rental car agency will allow this off-road access, which means in addition to your body, your automobile also takes a beating. So you need a dirt roadworthy SUV, preferably one that is so beat up that you no longer care.

The reward for your troubles is worth it – an amazing walk through a canyon that no photograph can do justice to. It does not have the panache of some of the swirling orange rocks at Zion National Park, but the blue walls and rocks of Marble Canyon are unique in their own way.

The best time to visit is in the afternoon, but not so late that you get caught there when it gets dark. Also, it is highly recommended that you travel in a group, with at least two, maybe three cars. That way, if there's any breakdown, you have people who can lend a hand.

For the most part, Marble Canyon is easy walking, but there are a couple of places that require steep climbing. You don't have to be super athletic to manage it, but a certain basic level of fitness is necessary. There are places you will likely need to use your tripod or hiking poles for support, and good hiking boots with superior traction are mandatory.

There is a myriad of things you can photograph here, ranging from the macro to the micro. As we walked through the canyon, I took a lot of photos of whatever caught my fancy. Even after culling my raw shots, I still ended up with some 50+ images.

I don't have a way to condense them down to a half dozen "best photos", so I'm just going to make it a virtual tour and publish them all. That way, anyone considering a visit should have a reasonably good feel for the place.

Don't feel compelled to comment, just enjoy the virtual tour!

Poor Wendy, who is now named Ferny, was pushed off of the counter by my cat and suffered scrapes to her shiny face. So, I had to give her a makeover.....I really didn't want to since I am not pro and didn't want to ruin her. She turned out ok and boy do I give so much credit to the pros...you ladies and gentlemen are really good at what you do.

The hardest thing about doing a photo shoot with Heather is trying to decide which photos to post while keeping it to a reasonable number. I guess I am slightly biased. We took these photos at the Valley of Fire State Park, NE of Las Vegas and one of my favorite places to visit. We arrived late in the day and only had about an hour to shoot before we lost light and the park closed. Heather looked stunning. I am so lucky!

Lark (sympathetically): "It's always hardest on the ones riding with Kums for the first time."

Candy (faintly): "My entire life flashed before me eyes, and all I could think was 'I am going to die a braless virgin...'"

Lark (amusedly): "Braless virgin?"

Yuri: "Daniel is responsible for the former and dearly wishes to rectify the latter."

Lark: *grins sunnily* "Of course he does--the poor, horny bastard. Cocktails coming up in a jiff!" *pulls out a tray full of cocktail supplies from behind the counter*

Candy: *eyes widen as she watches Lark expertly assemble drinks* "Wow, you're really good with booze, Lark."

Lark: "I use to bartend for my parents' place on Wren's days off. *pours drinks smoothly from the shaker*

Yuri: "Has Magpie returned from her concert in Tokyo yet? I know she was very anxious to join us today."

Lark: *shakes head sadly* "She said her flight was delayed, and it wasn't lookin' good."

Yuri (unhappily): "Oh, what a shame."

Lark: "Hey, Mouse, there's a dress I've been saving for you over on the rack."

Emma: *squeals* "The lacy one?!"

Lark: "Uh-huh."

Emma: *snatches it off the rack* "I love it! It's so sweet an' pretty!"

Lark: *indulgent smile * "Kinda like you. So where's Kumi and--"

--Door bangs open--

Wren: "I don't want to talk about this anymore, Kumi!"

Kumi: "Fletch's in love with you! How can you treat him this way?! Don't be such a b*tch, Wren! It's not an attractive quality, you know!"

Wren: *rounds on Kumi, fists clenched* "You would know since you're one 24/7! And you don't know the first thing about me and Fletch, so shut up!"

Kumi: "I know he proposed to you and you turned him down."

Wren: *sputters* "What...he...but...he wouldn't...Fletch told you that?! But he swore to me he'd never tell anyone about our engagement!"

--Everyone, but Wren, freezes in place, faces showing blatant astonishment--

The hardest thing was losing you..my best friend, my shoulder to lean on and my everything... without you I am nothing but lost... I try to be strong like you but I break to easy... the day I lost you was the day my whole world came crashing down... I love you so much gram 💗

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Kenley flypast 2017, to commemorate the Hardest Day. Andy Milliken (OC BBMF) flying a Griffon-engined MkXIX Spitfire. Unfortunately, just one plane could make it, as all the Merlin-engined aircraft are currently grounded.

Lalomanu beach was one of the hardest hit areas when the Samoa Tsunami, a 25 foot high wall of water, struck early in the morning of Sept 29, 2009. Around 50 small 'fales' open air beach cabins, once stood here on this idyllic beach, most just a few feet from the lapping turquise water. Residents that survived the 8.3 earthquake and the resulting Tsunami are now in shock, wandering among the twisted metal and splintered wood looking for anything they can save from the rubble, although most of the debris is ending up in the massive bonfires they have built on the beach. Despite the loss of 14 family members and everything they own, the Taufua family remains defiant and optimistic about the future. I've never seen this much resolve in the face of so much destruction.

"And sorry seems to be the hardest word...."

"There's one sad truth in life I've found

While journeying east and west -

The only folks we really wound

Are those we love the best.

We flatter those we scarcely know,

We please the fleeting guest,

And deal full many a thoughtless blow

To those who love us best."

“The hardest part of any important task is getting started on it in the first place. Once you actually begin work on a valuable task, you seem to be naturally motivated to continue.”

― Brian Tracy, Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time

This picture is one of the hardest I've done so far for this contest.

I wanted to go out of the normal things I would usually post, so I decide to take it at night (something I hate to do) and I only used a lantern to lighten the picture. This is how it came out. I did around 100 shots, seriously, 3 different outfits and hairstyles, and when I was done... My bathroom soaked... Anyway, this is the very first time I couldn't pick only one picture myself. So I've decided let you choose guys. These 2 pics were my fave.

I tried to go dramatic with her face. And I think I accomplished it. Hopefully. I think I met every single requirement, and I'm quite happy with that. Regarding to the storyline we had to make up... Well, I decided to make none. I think this picture is narrative enough to let each one of you create your very own story in your heads.

Hope you like it.

Three down one to go, probably the hardest of them all.

The hardest part about photographing this area is the large splash zone. I couldn't leave my camera set-up for long because the ride comes by very frequently.

We both know that I shouldn't be here

This is wrong

And baby it's killin' me, it's killin' you

Both of us tryin' to be strong

I've got somewhere else to be

Promises to keep

Someone else who loves me

And trusts me fast asleep

I've made up my mind

There is no turning back

She's been good to me

And she deserves better than that

It's the hardest thing

I'll ever have to do

To look you in the eye

And tell you I don't love you

It's the hardest thing

I'll ever have to lie

To show no emotion

When you start to cry

I can't let you see

What you mean to me

When my hands are tied

And my heart's not free

We're not meant to be

It's the hardest thing

I'll ever have to do

To turn around and walk away

Pretending I don't love you

This was our first day out. We took a 43 mile mixed terrain hell ride, the hardest way, from Christchurch to Lyttelton Harbour, then a boat to Diamond Harbour, and on to Akaroa, Canterbury. We logged over 8,000 feet of climbing on this day (in 43 miles!). "Welcome to New Zealand, here's how we kick your ass, mate!"

We saw three cars this day outside of town.

One of the hardest things about coming home from Florence in May was leaving behind all that delicious handmade, fresh pasta. Everywhere we went was scrumptious fresh pasta! And gelato! But since we eat so much pasta at home, that was the part that was most heartbreaking to be giving up, after such a fleeting glimpse of a life better lived.

But... hey, you know what? I figured I was probably capable of making pasta myself. Especially since Pookie got me some really nice cookbooks for my birthday. I dilly-dallied about getting a pasta machine, though, so finally I just asked Santa to get me one, so I couldn't put it off any further. Santa's the best, because he totally listened to my request.

So, armed with all the necessary tools, today I took my first giant step toward a more delicious pasta-heavy life. I'd made pasta way back in a past life, if we're being honest, because we had a machine back in the mid-'90s when they were really trendy. Back then? I sucked. I was very nervous about this, with memories still fresh of my lumpen, gluey noodles lo those years ago... but my fears were for naught! Apparently I'm better at cooking now than I was 20 years ago. Go figure!

We ended up with a very yummy dinner of a creamy tomato sauce with jowl bacon and super-fresh, super-delicious, slightly too-thin and juuuuuuust a wee bit overcooked homemade fettucine. I can't wait to get back to this again, to improve my game on the neverending quest to make Maple Hoo a tastier place!

Trying my hardest to come up with the worst puns on Flickr :)

My relationship with gulls is normally a good one, they perform for the camera and i chuck them the odd chip. I thought they did it mainly because they love the fame, but this one renegotiated his contract and stole a sandwich right out of my daughters hand whilst we had our lunch at St Brelades bay in Jersey. I post this picture here today as a warning to other unsuspecting picnickers

Last night was one of the hardest decisions of my life that I ever had to make. I had to put down my bestest friend after 15 great years of such loyal companionship. I just truly knew in my heart that his quality of life was no longer there and I could not bare to see him suffer any longer. He just deteroriated so much in the last two weeks, I just could not kid my self any longer in thinking things would get better.

The little guy has laid with me everynight for the past 15 years and it was so hard knowing he was not there last night. He will come no longer to my call or share his silents thoughts with me. A voice far greater than my own has called him.

And through my tear filled eyes, I thank him for the happy years. He let him spend down here with me. And for his love and loyalty.

I know he is truly in a better place right now, but I still cannot express how very sad I am and so lost without him right now. I know in time, the pain will ease and I will go on without him...but I will cherish all the great memories I have had with him.

The hardest part is trusting ourselves. Once we let go and do that our true authenticity and creative voice can shine!

-Value yourself

-Value your visions

-Remain true to the artist you want to be

-Go with your heart, always

One of the hardest things when taking photos of landmarks, famous structures or places is capturing images that someone has not already taken before and doing it in a way where the composition is somewhat interesting and different.

Here’s a photo from the top of THE ROCK at 30 Rockefeller Center. Now for those of you who have been to the top of THE ROCK you would have noticed the large glass panels on the perimeter of the viewing areas. Between each of the glass panels is an empty space of about 4-5 inches side which separates each panel – which you can see here in this photo.

The majority of people taking photos of the NYC skyline from the Top of the Rock tend to crowd around these little crevices to take photos through these spaces (I’m guessing to get a clearer picture because the glass panels are kinda dirty with smudges and they’re also reflective). Now I’m sure all of these photos come out great…how can you not take a great picture of the NYC skyline – but chances are someone else has taken the same type of photos. Just go on Google image search put in “View from Top of the Rock” and most of the photos will look very similar.

What I wanted as a tourist in my own city was to take a unique photo from on top of the Rock and I was struggling…like everyone I was fixated on taking a pristine photo in that space between the glass panels and after about 50 or so photos I gave up…thinking I wasn’t every going to get that shot. So I took a few steps back and then I saw this pretty interesting framing of the Empire State Building which actually uses the glass panels for the framing in conjunction with the horizon in the backdrop – and that’s what you see here.

I guess sometimes in photography when you set out to capture something unique and special you can’t get fixated on one area but rather you have to take a look at the entire landscape and work with what’s going on – work with what’s there - use the entirety of the landscape and horizon to find that unique composition that you set out to capture before you even arrived.

Hardest part of this for me was holding the "bomb" position with a dodgy back! I'm not massively happy with how this came out, I think I would retake the shot of me in the bomb position, or better still get someone else to do it for me.

The Hardest Day: 75 Years On

Hardest panel off all to illuminate is the ACP panels, they are an un balanced panel, lots of little thin areas at the top with a lot of art work versus large unused areas at the bottom. Ive never seen one done right so decided to make 9 test panels. They all look the same in the picture however the rear side is different on them all, 9 panels, 9 different PCB layouts to try to chose whats best

One of the hardest parts about loss is all of the little things that have been habits for so long they just seem natural. Like to place your hand on that person's leg when they sit next to you. Or to kiss their neck when they hug you. When before you had almost no physical boundaries, now suddenly there are tons - your body doesn't realize it and automatically does what it's been doing for years, and then your brain has to jump in and tell you to stop, and then your heart remembers and breaks just a little bit more.

The hardest part of life is finding someone who hears the same song on the same wavelength as you. Explaining this sentence's meaning is as complicated as understanding why July 7th, exactly a week away, is more significant to me than my own birthday.

Marco Island was hit hardest by Irma last fall, but by the time we got there in March, the island was neat as a pin. Virtually all debris had been cleaned up, but repair was going on all over the island. This pagoda was on the pier at the Riverside Club. Within a week of our arriving, it had been hauled away.

is returning from vacation and all the flowers have fallen.

Definitely the hardest week I've had since returning to work. I squeezed this pic out for my sweety Kaitlyn and Daddy Playboy Daddy because I know they've been missing my post. Haven't had much time to Flickr this week. Hope everyone has a great day. 💕😘💕

The hardest part about redressing vintage Ken bodied dolls is how looooooong that torso is in comparison to his shrimpy arms and legs. But hey I finally touched up my new Allan’s hair scuffs and gave him some eye shine dots cuz he looked a bit dead eyed. And my blue eyed Allan went back onto his original body cuz nothing really fitted his action figure body well. I also painted freckles onto my blue eyed Allan but I dunno if it suits him.

But yeah I really need to start thinking of names for all my Allans.
