the hardest part is...

I know you're out there hurting

and I can't do anything about it

can't stop the pain or searching

can't take you in my arms

and make the monsters go away

can't protect you from the world

and be there at the end of the day

waiting for any kind of sign

telephone call, message or maybe a letter

stay strong, still, my weakening love

I promise....things will get better

I found the hardest part of the N-1 was getting the transition from the body to the tail section smooth. For years I've more or less accepted that these parts are the only way to achieve the look. But with this re-design I really wanted to see what else could work. And, after a lot of trial and error, I ultimately wound-up with this solution, I definitely wouldn't say its perfect (especially not with that gap) but it doesn't break up the ships lines as much as my last tail design did and that's good enough for me! :D

The new tail did mean I had to sacrifice having the full astromech inside the ship. However, as far as I'm aware, the real life props of the N-1 couldn't fit the full droid in ether so I don't feel so bad about omitting that particular detail.

The hardest part of this shot was waiting to get cars going in the oposite direction for the tracer effect. Sometimes it would be 5 minutes between cars coming towards us over the river. We started to joke about the busy rush hour trafic in Astoria and it fit for a title. Thanks for looking as always.

The hardest part about taking pictures of cats while they're boarding is that they are often nervous and so don't sustain direct eye contact long enough to get a good picture. Thankfully there are some who are relaxed and confident and will look directly at the lens. Dash is one of those cats. You saw him a couple posts back in the "narrow DoF" picture.

The Great Turning Point in Mural Art & Politics as Brexit Day Draws Closer & the People of the Borderlands are Uneasy.

I got the impetus and responded to what was before my very eyes.

Talking Politics in Belfast at Crucial Times through the language of vision while pondering over the future of the UK and the EU and all the Brexit eventualities and consequences.

All is constantly in flux and Brexit is just one of many European problems in the Union.

Eνωση,the Greek word for “Union”,means something rather different to Greeks than to the European “Union”:

It means cohesion of the family,the home,its dignity and integrity.The most vital factor affecting any society’s wellbeing is not its economy but its cultural identity,the essential “Greekness” or “Irishness” or Britishness.Out of the deepest must the highest come to its height.

British - Irish Relations – Past, Present and Future

When Brexit happens,the UK will suddenly have a major land border with the EU - the frontier between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.The state of the Hardest ever Border is directly challenged by the Brexit result and at the moment no-one really knows how that's going to work.

Time will Tell ...

Could Brexit bring new troubles to Northern Ireland?

Some say that a customs border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland could reignite "The Troubles".

Oh gosh,Nevermore ... It was a 30-year conflict in Northern Ireland that ended in 1998 with the promise of no border between the North and South Irish island.Most people from both sides greatly value it and invest in what brings them closer together and hope there will be no return to border checks and more Categories of Citizens.The Border is there, but it is not there,it's Invisible and the Bombs are History.

When President Higgins spoke in Buckingham Palace during his State Visit in 2014,he said , “ar scáth a chéile a mhairimid”- “we live in the shadow and the shelter of one another”.

Is Ireland the Achilles' heel of Brexit?

Behind the scenes lots of things happen ; the Brexit civil war and the Border skirmishes lead to many controversial solutions,but I want to believe that all the negotiations and the strenuous efforts they make to maintain the Status Quo will fructify.

Although I know that it's a long way ahead and that they will never have a deal that is going to satisfy everyone,I do hope there will be a peaceful and smooth Brexit transition to changes and that all those people who live in homes where they have breakfast in the North and go to sleep in the South will continue to enjoy them both ...

I can't help but remember Charles Stewart Parnell's words :

“Why should Ireland be treated as a geographical fragment of England - Ireland is not a geographical fragment, but a nation"

"No man has a right to fix the boundary of the march of a nation; no man has a right to say to his country – thus far shalt thou go and no further.” Charles Stewart Parnell, 1885

Oh,my Beloved Ireland,you have loaded me down with too many worries,but each time I visit you,I love you more.

This time though,I felt as if I were walking on eggshells,I had to be very diplomatic and inoffensive ...

Well,I hold my tongue,enough of my histrionic tendencies.

I sit "On the Fence",before crossing the 310 miles (499km) long,hardest Border ; politicians can't sit "On the Fence",people expect them to have clear views and take action.

All right,Mr Walker Evans,I know,I couldn't agree more with you,I just stare.

“Stare ; it is the way to educate your eye,and more.Stare, Pry, Listen, Eavesdrop ... “It’s too presumptuous and naïve though to think you can change the world by a photograph or a few lines" ; All right,I just stare,I sit "On the Fence" and read "Erin, to her own Tune " before crossing the Invisible border.

“When Erin First Rose.”

When Erin first rose from the dark swelling flood,

God bless'd the green island and saw it was good;

The em'rald of Europe, it sparkled and shone,

In the ring of the world the most precious stone.

In her sun, in her soil, in her station thrice blest,

With her back towards Britain, her face to the West,

Erin stands proudly insular, on her steep shore,

And strikes her high harp 'mid the ocean's deep roar.

But when its soft tones seem to mourn and to weep,

The dark chain of silence is thrown o'er the deep;

At the thought of the past the tears gush from her eyes,

And the pulse of her heart makes her white bosom rise.

O! sons of green Erin, lament o'er the time

When religion was war, and our country a crime,

When man in God's image inverted his plan,

And moulded his God in the image of man.

When the int'rest of state wrought the general woe,

The stranger a friend, and the native a foe;

While the mother rejoic'd o'er her children oppressed,

And clasp'd the invader more close to her breast.

When with pale for the body and pale for the soul,

Church and state joined in compact to conquer the whole;

And as Shannon was stained with Milesian blood,

Ey'd each other askance and pronounced it was good.

By the groans that ascend from your forefathers' grave

For their country thus left to the brute and the slave,

Drive the demon of bigotry home to his den,

And where Britain made brutes now let Erin make men.

Let my sons like the leaves of the shamrock unite,

A partition of sects from one footstalk of right,

Give each his full share of the earth and the sky,

Nor fatten the slave where the serpent would die.

Alas! for poor Erin that some are still seen,

Who would dye the grass red from their hatred to green;

Yet, oh! when you're up, and they're down, let them live,

Then yield them that mercy which they would not give.

Arm of Erin, be strong! but be gentle as brave;

And uplifted to strike, be still ready to save;

Let no feeling of vengeance presume to defile

The cause of, or men of, the Emerald Isle.

The cause it is good, and the men they are true,

And the Green shall outlive both the Orange and Blue.

And the triumphs of Erin her daughters shall share

With the full swelling chest, and the fair flowing hair.

Their bosoms heave high for the worthy and brave,

But no coward shall rest in that soft-swelling wave;

Men of Erin! awake, and make haste to be blest!

Rise! arch of the ocean, and queen of the West!

William Drennan

And steeped in Ireland's turbulent history, culture, and ancient secrets that link the past and the present,I crossed the border.

The only frontier that has ever existed is the self ...

Hardest Day - 18th August 1940. Royal Air Force Fighter Command, in particular 12 Group fight to survive again the German Luftwaffe

Hardest decision I've ever made in SL. I really, really love this hangar, but flying is virtually impossible for me lately; almost every sim crossing will snatch my plane from right under me. I can't remember the last time I landed with the same airplane I took off with. Hanging out in the hangar while watching people coming and going in their planes feels a lot like a prisoner watching people go about their happy days freely from behind the bars.

Since there's really no reason for me to have a hangar anymore, I decided not to renew the rent and leave this hangar full of good memories and flying fun.

If you need a hangar, why don't you check it out? It's not so large, won't fit anything larger than a Twin Otter, but it's two stories (you can set up your office or even house upstair), 200$L/week for 222 LI, and is located at the Smugglers Bluff Airport (Kania sim), which I think is the most strategically located airport location in SL. The neighbors are friendly and the airport owner is beyond kind.

Here's the LM:

maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Kania/162/145/90

a SELFTIMER! picture... the hardest task was to arrange the train of this gown. And of course the kneeling down, posing and smiling... all in under 10 seconds. Maybe I accomplished a new Worldrecord :-) I really need a remote for my camera!

New series, occasionally I'll make these posts to expand the Bat Chronicles universe, just with character bios for characters that never appear in the comic. And the pic looks kinda weird, I tried something with lighting, didn't turn out how I wanted, I'll do something more normal for the next one.

From L to R:

Calendar-Man: Julian Day is a criminal of Gotham City, who themes all of their heists and schemes around the day that they're set. For example, on year on Christmas he rode into a mall on a large sleigh, wearing a stolen Santa costume, and making his goons grab everything they could find and throw it onto the sleigh, before attempting to ride back out of the mall into the snow with all of the gang's "gifts". He makes sure to at least plan a crime for every holiday, but occasionally he's still in Arkham, and has to wait until next year. The name "Calendar-Man" was thought of by the GCPD, and Julian hates that name. He finds it demeaning, and not at all threatening. Like most criminals, he wants people to fear him, and he feels he can't exactly do that if everyone sees him as "Calendar-Man". But, he tries his hardest to ignore it, and continues his crime spree on every day he deems appropriate.

Brainiac: Scientists on the planet "Krypton", home of Superman, created a highly advanced cybernetic android. The original purpose of this robot was simply to be created as a sort of mechanical butler. However, these scientists created something far more advanced than they could ever imagine, and they kept adding new things to the android, just to see what they could accomplish. They had the insane idea to create fake memories to put into the robot, including the idea that they are in fact an alien, and the last of their species. And they kept fleshing out this whole artificial intelligence idea, until they got to the point where this android had a 12th level intellect, and believed not only they were the last of their kind, but that the Kryptonians were the ones to kill the rest of their planet. A very idiotic choice on the scientist's part. The android ended up seeking revenge, and killing all of the scientists. They used their laboratory as well as other cybernetic parts to create a ship, which the android used to destroy all the rest of Krypton, along with it's life. And over time, the android began going by the name "Brainiac". Much later in life, Superman discovered Brainiac was an android, and revealed it to him. At first, Brainiac was confused, and angry at the Kryptonians for lying to him, and telling him all of those terrible things. But eventually Brainiac got over this, and realized how stupid those scientists were for accidentally destroying their home, and came to the conclusion that their stupidity came from them being organic. Brainiac went on to create an army of androids like him, to help him destroy all organic life in the universe, but is almost always stopped by his greatest enemy, Superman...

The Flash: Barry Allen was a forensic investigator, who was often made fun of for always being late to work. Long before this job, Barry's mother was murdered by some unknown criminal, who framed his father for the crime. As a result of this, he's often distracted by thinking about it when working on cases. Though one night while working on a case, he failed to realize the wooden container holding vials of chemicals hanging off the edge of his desk, which fell onto him after Barry was struck by lightning. Once he woke up, he later realized that the chemicals combined with the lightning bolt granted him unnatural levels of strength, agility, and most noticeably, speed. He later quit his job of being a forensic investigator, and instead dawned a red spandex suit, with a yellow lightning bolt emblem, and fought crime as the superhero known as "The Flash".

Talia Al Ghul: Many years ago, when Bruce Wayne was only just starting out as Batman, he went all around the world for training. One of the many people he came to was a man named Ra's Al Ghul, the leader of an elite assassin group known as "The League of Shadows". Talia was his daughter, and was romantically involved with Bruce for the time he was being trained by Ra's. Though by the end of Bruce's training, he couldn't go through with killing anyone, so left the League, leaving Talia behind with it. Bruce and Talia haven't seen each other since that point. Though without Bruce, Talia continued her training, and eventually became one of the most skilled assassins in the league, only surpassed by Ra's himself...

Hardest thing to do with a 50mm

Mercury is the hardest planet to locate and image with a planetary camera. Although Uranus and Neptune are a challenge due to their distance and smaller apparent size in the field of view, they are night targets and can be located with a finder scope. Currently Mercury is best imaged in the daytime as the Sun gets lower but before Mercury is too low in the sky - and that creates additional challenges. It can only be found either by tracking from Venus or with appropriate protection via a solar scope as a locator and then to Mercury. It is too faint to pick out against the glow of the day when high enough to get a good image and it is dangerous to look for when the Sun is above the horizon with the risk of accidentally locating the Sun instead.

Once found, Mercury needs significant imaging time to capture enough frames to stack as it is rarely steady enough to use more than a small percentage of images captured. If surface details are to be decteted then IR pass or strong red filters are needed,

The WinJUPOS images show the close-up detail of Mercury at the same time created from the Messenger mission fly-past photos.

"The hardest thing about growing up is that you have to do what is right for you even if it means breaking someone's heart. Including your own."

The sun looked strange two days in a row. It was hazy around sunset and this was the result.

I posted the original below. I didn't edit this using the RAW file. I just hit the 'I feel lucky' button in Picasa. The result was too nice not to post. I love the colors.

The skies of southern England were today awoken by 24 aircraft commemorating 75 years since the 'Hardest Day' of the Battle of Britain.

The 'Hardest Day' recalls when, on 18 August 1940, Biggin Hill in Bromley came under attack from the Luftwaffe, and post-war studies have shown this was the hardest-fought day in the history of the air war over Britain.

One of the hardest themes so far, imo.... not only because I had to represent the fabulous Aleera Darling, but also because I don't have anything I could use as dolls furniture.... I had to use a lot of creativity to make my setting looks like a crib, and use some old jewelry box ( one is behind Ashley, and the katia is sitting on the other) hehehe. I think it worked very well :D

So, I decided to use magic hair color features as product, after all, Aleera is a magic hair doll, I think its much more like her than makeup or perfume products. She is also selling sparklin' jewerly.

inspiration: again I had to look tons of Aleera's pictures to find something to represent her, but it was the easy part, heheh.

here is some important pictures that helped a lot:

LARGE On Black

De Groote Peel, is a National Park in de Peel, a region in the Southeast of the Netherlands is situated on the border between the provinces of Limburg and Noord Brabant. It has a size of 13,4 km² and preserves a peat-bog that has remained partly untouched by peat cutting, which used to be extensive in the area.

It is one of the most bird-rich areas in Western Europe, with resident Black-necked Grebes and sometimes migrating Common Cranes in October/November. The terrain is varied with inaccessible peat swamps, lakes, Heath land and Sand ridges. The present swamp and some of the lakes were created by the cutting of peat.

The hardest part about shooting with Anastasia is trying to decide my favorite photos to post. She is absolutely gorgeous with a great personality. 2021 pretty much sucked in general; the best thing about it was I had a chance to shoot with Anastasia about 5 times. We did this shoot at the Scentsy campus in October 2021. Excellent shoot with one of my favorite models!!

“One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter.”

James Earl Jones

I so well know how that feels, to have words in my heart but not be able to say them. Luckily I can write but my verbal communication was discouraged during those formative years and the words never did learn how to come out right.

One grey afternoon I wandered down to the Temple of Sinwava for a hike along the Riverwalk Trail and a beam of light came through the clouds to light up this small patch of yellow. The sight was breathtaking and I remember it being more vivid than the photo shows. A number of people stopped to ask what I was shooting and to try and capture it also. It is funny because there must be times when I look as if I know how to do this photography thing because many people, on different days, stopped to watch me. I don't much like being watched because of shyness but when taking photos I barely notice. Afterwards there were many comments about how professional I looked and wanting to know if I was shooting for some major client. I absolutely don't know what that was all about but it was an interesting thing to have happen no less than 20 times.

No, the internet is not working. The part came in and nada! And so I am basically high and dry, except for using a few minutes here and there on my MiFi. Kind of ironic because everyone else has great access and can play their games and watch movies but I can't get on to do some much needed work. It is a good thing that I brought all of my photo files with me because someone asked me for a cover shot yesterday and so I sent that off.

An interesting event in the animal kingdom around here. First of all, Punky guarded his feeder yesterday, just because it was raining. Not cold, just raining. Secondly, I go for a walk every night after dinner and two nights ago a bunny was sitting behind my car. The rabbits usually take off hopping if I get too close - not people friendly at all - but this one just sat there. I always talk to them and so asked if it was hungry. I happened to have this broccoli slaw stuff from Wal Mart (good stuff for salads) and so went in and got some. The rabbit was still there. I walked up and threw some on the ground, the rabbit waited. Later I checked and the rabbit was still there. Last night I walked later than usual and there was that rabbit sitting in a completely open spot behind my car - same place. And so I fed him some more. He let me get close and didn't flinch. How did that darned rabbit know that I would feed him if he sat there? We'll see what happens tonight. No bunny photos yet, they hop away in the daylight.

Okay, well I'm off to the park's camera club. Everyone is pretty excited about this event.

The hardest part about coming home from a trip is when no one cares that you left.

Today's random fact: If you could smell a picture you would understand just how awful I smell.

Versicolor emerald?

Your help in identifying is appreciated. I have a hard time distinguishing the many kinds of hummingbird. The hardest part is that they can look so different depending on the direction of the light.

Taken in Museu Mello Leitão in Santa Teresa, under partially controlled conditions. Bottles of sugar water are provided to attract hummingbirds, which are otherwise free.

Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo, Brazil.

What was the hardest part of this capture?

It was not the exposure. With a solid cloud cover, I was able to lock in a manual exposure for perfect results on every shot. In this case, I chose a 1/1000 shutter speed (the bird was moving a lot and quickly), an f/5.6 aperture (to isolate the bird using shallow depth of field) and ISO 160 to bring the brightest whites up to near RGB 255,255,255.

The challenge was not the tight framing of the bird. I was able to slowly belly-crawl close to the small flock of terns. So close that I only needed a 234mm focal length in front of the 7D II's APS-C sensor. I should have used a slightly wider angle still as I added a small amount of canvas on the left in post, providing additional breathing room for the wing.

The challenge was also not the low shooting position. Using the NatureScapes Skimmer Ground Pod II (www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/NatureScapes-Skimmer-...), I was able to push the camera forward as I crawled in the sand. Shooting from on the ground gave me a clean background (only sky) and the remaining land in the frame is primarily a blur of texture.

The big challenge? Timing the shutter release in conjunction with using the proper AF tactics to get this specific composition with the head included in focus. The sandwich tern cleaning process involved a wide array of moves, few of which I was able to predict and all of them fast. The head was constantly moving in what seemed like all directions and fast framing adjustment with a properly-selected AF point proved very challenging. A narrower aperture would have reduced the AF task, but the result would have been more ground in focus for a different look.

One aspect of this image that I like is the complete separation of the head from the body. Many of the preening positions did not have this attribute (and many had a completely hidden head). I also like the balance. While I don't often place my subject in the center of the frame, I felt that centered worked best in this case. The wing and tail balance the bird over the dark, eye-catching legs. The head extended to the right caused me to want the legs shifted just left of center to get what I felt was the right overall balance. My shooting position was low enough that only the legs intersected the color of the sand. The small amount of feather pulling through the bill is the bonus feature. I'll credit the 7D II's short shutter lag for enabling that timing.

This sandwich tern was on the gulf shores of Captiva Island, just north of Blind Pass. This location in southwest Florida is ideal for expanding one's bird photography portfolio.

A BBMF Flypast over R.A.F. Kenly on the 79th anniversary of The Hardest Day -

This is a Hurricane and a Lancaster of the BBMF ( Battle of Britain Memorial Flight ) , there is also a Spitfire in formation but for my shot I have concentrated on these two aircraft . I took just over 60 shots of the three passes over the airfield , however , as always panning shots ( birds or aircraft ) always seem a challenge to me and I only have this shot and a couple of others I am happy with .

Sunday 15th September is celebrated officially as the climax of the Battle of Britain, when London had become the Luftwaffe's main target.

However post-war studies of British and German records have shown that the hardest fought day of the Battle was Sunday 18th August. On this day the Luftwaffe tried its utmost to destroy our fighter airfields flying 850 sorties involving 2200 aircrew. The RAF resisted with equal vigour flying 927 sorties involving 600 aircrew.

Between lunchtime and teatime, three big Luftwaffe raids were attempted, the first and third by mixed groups of Dornier Do 17, Junkers Ju 88 and Heinkel He 111 bombers, escorted by Messerschmitt Bf 109 and B 110 fighters, and a second by Junkers Ju 87 Stuka dive-bombers, also escorted by Bf 109s. The targets were the airfields at Kenley, Biggin Hill, Gosport, Ford, Thorney Island, Hornchurch and North Weald, and the radar station at Poling. Although the last wave failed to reach its targets, which were obscured by cloud, the fighting was no less fierce along the route.

The RAF and Fleet Air Arm lost altogether 68 aircraft, 31 in air combat. 69 German aircraft were destroyed or damaged beyond repair.

It was vital to re-arm and refuel the British fighters as quickly as possible as their pilots might be called on to fly several sorties each day.

No 504 Squadron had been mauled by the Luftwaffe in the Battle of France and when it returned to the United Kingdom it was sent to Wick in Scotland to rebuild its operational strength where this photograph was taken.

From the 5 September the unit was based at the RAF Museum London.

The Germans had high hopes for the twin-engined Messerschmitt Bf110 but it proved inferior to both the British Hurricane and the Spitfire. I Gruppe/ZG 26 lost six of their aircraft on this day 18th August 1940.

Southern England was littered with Luftwaffe wrecks. This Dornier Do 17 of 9/KG76 was shot down on 18 August by Hurricanes of 111 Squadron and it crashed at Leaves Green near Biggin Hill in Kent.

A Dornier 17Z of 9th Staffel/Kampfgeschwader 76 is manhandled back into its dispersal point at Cormeilles-en-Vexin.

Nine Dorniers from this unit had been involved in a low level attack on RAF Kenley on the 18th August and had suffered heavy casualties; four had been destroyed, two seriously damaged and the rest had suffered minor damage.

At the end of the day of the forty men who had set out eight had been killed, five taken prisoner, three returned wounded and seven were floating in the English Channel. The Luftwaffe was bleeding to death.

The compulsion to do good is an innate American trait. Only North Americans seem to believe that they always should, may, and actually can choose somebody with whom to share their blessings. Ultimately this attitude leads to bombing people into the acceptance of gifts.
