It's a macro of a Hard Disc. You see the camerareflection on the shiny surface of the HD. However it's a very close macro, I couldn't see any files : )
I think that now the warrenty is gone...
Big Size Alert
Taking a screw-driver we turned the new medium HDD into a vinyl (also it's made of metal...)
Of course we scratched only good music into the disk.
The march of technology goes on . . . seems like SD cards have overtaken the floppy and hard disks have taken over a larger version of storage. (Actually this new disk isn't one of my hot-swappable SATA ones -- the old EIDE drive died in the Dell so got a new one.)
This is what a picture of a hard disk looks like. It didnt have its shell on when I found it and the r/w head arm have been snapped off. I don't know how old it is or what size it is or what brand it is or where it came from. I can tell you it is a 5.25" SCSI drive and probably came from an external hard drive from a Mac classic. Its just a big heavy ornament now but once it was expensive and useful.

I've been wanting to set up a NAS at home for years. It's only in the past year or so that it has become (somewhat) affordable.
When you buy a NAS, you can't just stop there. You need a UPS to prevent data corruption during power outages, otherwise, what's the point of having redundancy? And then you need a gigabit switch so it won't be dog slow accessing the files over the network.
Week #1 - Reflection
Don't worry - the data had been mirrored ;-)
This is the insides of a computers hard disk. An awful lot of 1's and 0's stored on a very shiny metal (or glass) platter, accessed by the head on the end of the little arm that floats just above the surface. (The 1's and 0's aren't normally visable - they were reflected for effect)
Oh - it doesn't normally have the bit sticking up like this. The drive certainly won't be working ever again!
WARNING - Do NOT take your computers hard disk apart, unless you really really don't want the data on it any more!

I held a masked ball for my 20th birthday. (2008)
Spending months planning and dreaming (and sewing a huge ball gown and making a matching mask) and ofcourse making the perfect invitations. The style of the ball was pink and over the top a la Marie Antoinette and it really was a great party!
I love using wax seals on all my correspondence, I think it always adds a nice toutch.
* Sadly a few days after my harddisk died, having had no time to make a backup of the pictures. so I don't have any pictures of the actual party. :(

Homebuilt barebones MSI Wind desktop. Used for home multimedia center.
Step 1. - Gather components
Step 2. - Remove top cover
Step 3. - Remove front panel and drive assembly
Step 4. - Install RAM
Step 5. - Bolt drives into drive assembly
Each drive (the Hard Disk Drive = HDD and Optical Disk Drive = ODD) is held in place by four screws on the bottom of the drive assembly (noted above). Not a big deal but keep in mind:
1. If you have not done so already, you probably want to disconnect the umbilical
2. You'll have the assembly upside down - make sure the drives are properly positioned such that when the assembly is in place they are right side up, the exposed part of the ODD will be flush with the front of the case, and the back of both drives faces the motherboard.
3. 3.5" and 5" drives use very similar looking screws, but they have always used different threads (quite obnoxious). MSI helpfully includes the screws in two different bags marked "ODD" and "HDD" - they will only work for the appropriate mounting.
4. Always a good idea with any bolted / screwed object to first attach all points loosely, then (carefully) snug them all up once all are in place.
Step 6. - Snap drive assembly back in

I'm not sure if this is allowed in the TPNC rules but it was such a triumphant day for my photos it's worthy of a screenshot not a photo. A screenshot so you can see the notes I've made about the lovely free linux tools which I've used to image 4 harddisks, then extract all the photos including deleted ones, remove any duplicates, read the exif data and rename the files with the date and time taken, and finally store them in folders like so:

I'm now left with 48345 pictures, totalling 137.3 GB and I think it's time to finish our first 365.
