Everything i found inside a Maxtor DiamondMax 80 built in 2000.
The top cover consists of two different metal sheets. They are glued together and reduce the harddisks noise. The cover seal is a string of flexible adhesive like hot-melt glue.
There were two tiny plastic bolts inserted into holes on the spindle top. They have different size and color and i suppose they are balancing weights.
One of my desktop's hard disks failed. This is the result of more hammering than I would have liked. (But data destruction is important!).
Intel Mainboard with Celeron (1,6GHz) and one RAM slot. CPU with passive cooling with two big fans from the back. Integrated power supply with additional (smaller) fan.
One hard drive has been removed. The cage is open at both drive bays. The yellow plugs are used to eliminate vibrations that would cause additional noise. This is a very elegant solution to mount the drives without having to use a screwdriver.
On the right hand side the power and SATA-3 connectors are visible. The box is very properly cabeled.
Just found these pictures on my harddisk.
It was a lovely day :-)

Today we tried to destroy a harddisk. ...and we had success! :-)

Arjen Kamphuis tasked me with the proper disposal of one of his personal devices, a MacBook Pro4.1 laptop.
After hearing that Duracell would bring an oxyacetylene cutting torch, I let Jos Weyers have the honour of destroying the harddisk (and virtually everything else).
Job well done, I'd say.
I held a masked ball for my 20th birthday.
Spending months planning and dreaming (and sewing a huge ball gown and making a matching mask) and ofcourse making the perfect invitations. The style of the ball was pink and over the top a la Marie Antoinette and it really was a great party!
* Sadly a few days after my harddisk died, having had no time to make a backup of the pictures. so I don't have any pictures of the actual party. :(
The future is closer than we think.
The fight between rich and poor is forgoten, they all starve these days. The oil cartells have long since subdued any remaing squabbles. The war on terror nothing more than a memory of an old generation. And the war on drugs has been well and truely lost...
No more bombs are dropping on the trenches, no more heroic tv pictures are flooding the homes of the civilians..
This war is different.
It is the silent poof of millions disapearing from bank accounts, not bone shattering explosions.
It is the sweat of the young teen in front of her hightech webcam instead of some sweatshop in Indonesia.
It is the crusade of the renegade caffein junky browsing the net instead of the hooligan with his baseball bat.
The war for the 21st century is about information and access.
How much blood sweat and tears do you have stored on your harddisk?
Are you ready to be gagged and muted cause you lack the info or the access?
To old to comprehend the modern warefare or too young to care?
Or are you gonna stand and hold your ground?
...
As for me, my guns are loaded, my fists are clenched!
Let the battle begin...
Over 100.000 dollar worth of components on the table here. Extra CPU's, Harddisks, Option cards, even Arkoestic Atenuation Modules.. all to be built into our Blades, Bladecenters, and xSeries 366's
Slightly edited shot of a severe case of Gadget-mania breaking out in my house in Amsterdam. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing besides some added contrast&saturation, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)
I've mentioned it last week, I've bought some new Gadgets to enhance my Multimedia options and make full use of the wicked possibilities that the Interwebs and the 21st Century in general throw our way...so, to show you how I managed to get my YouTube puddle reflection movies onto my new 32 Inch Flat screen TV (yay :))), follow the white rabbit photos, and enjoy watching how I connected my living room to that obscure online world we all love so much ... :)
Step 6: Connect the shiny, pretty Multimedia player to your ridiculously over sized Television and turn both on...

Step 5: Put the ridiculously over sized Television in a place where you can keep a close eye on it, they do crazy things when you're not watching...better safe than sorry!
