Merry Christmas!

Καλά Χριστούγεννα!

Christmas with no Santa, red outfits, numerous gifts and celebrated seven days after the New Year? No, it’s not a successful project by the Grinch. It’s Orthodox Christmas.

Many Orthodox Christians in the United States celebrate Christmas Day on or near January 7 in the Gregorian calendar. This date works to be December 25 in the Julian calendar, which pre-dates the Gregorian calendar. It is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who is believed to be the son of God.

For many Orthodox Christians, Christmas Day is not about presents, eggnog or Christmas characters that have become popular through commercialization. Christmas Day is a time to heal the soul. It is also a time of peace and unity.

White cloth is used on dinner tables in some countries to symbolize purity and the cloth that baby Jesus was wrapped in. Straw may be placed on these tables to symbolize the simplicity of the place where Jesus was born. Candles may be lit to represent the light of Christ and the festive Christmas meal represents the end of fasting.

Thank you all for your continuous support throughout 2024, wishing you all the best for 2025 :)

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American Flickr friends who are celebrating today, and Happy Thursday to all! It’s a good time too for me to say thank you for your comments, friendship and support; it is very much appreciated.

Thanks as well to my wife who trusted me to photograph the decos for this image and to return them safely to their display locations without breaking them or messing them up too badly. :-) And thanks to Brenda Starr for the background texture.

Happy Caturday 31.8.2024 "happy cats"

Miss Izzie Smirh (#1 of 9 now) being precious in their bedroom! Cats as art! Happy ScATsURDAY!

Sweet memories of summer and our holiday in Disentis, Switzerland. We passed through this traditional village, Segnas, a couple of times. I loved its old farmer's houses, with flower boxes at the windows, beautiful woodcarvings and - as here - a bench in front of the house. The benches are often not much more than half a tree trunk against the wall, but still very inviting.

In this photo the redcurrant-bush makes me dream of summer too!

HAPPY EASTER to all my friends, followers, viewers, and your families.

Happy Sunday dear friends.

Wish you all the best for 2016!

Happy Caturday from Rascal!

Black cats are animals to be cherished.

Happy Holidays everyone. Enjoy celebrating with family and friends. I apparently celebrated a bit too much this year, but walking around in the field makes me hungry. Another photographer in the field that day was nice enough to take this photograph with my other camera. Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA, November 2024

I hope this little fella brings a smile to your face. What a joy it was to watch him (with mom and dad nearby, of course) swim, feed, nap and chill :)

Sliders Sunday.

Wow, 9 years on Georgia already? Though I first joined SL in June of 2010 (really making me 10 in SL) I really consider Georgia's first rezzing in-world to be the true beginning of my time in SL.

In my time in SL, I have learned so much from all of the amazing people I've met here. Much like me in RL, Georgia has grown and changed over the last decade...and both she and her typist have aged gracefully, I might add! I couldn't possibly thank everyone that I've encountered here that has shaped me into who I am today but thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks for 10 years in SL and here's to 10 more!

Check out my 6th Rezzday photo here!

Norfolk & Western 1218 thunders through the village of Happy Creek, Virginia on its way to Front Royal. All of the smoke and cinders being deposited on the house to the right make it easy to understand why the people who lived near the rails were happy to see the demise of steam.

Happy fence Friday and here's to a weekend of mindfulness and inner peace. May you take time to breathe, relax, and enjoy the simple pleasures that life has to offer.

To all my Flickr friends, and to all the friends I have yet to make, may you have very Happy Holidays and a wonderful new year in 2024!

Kelela's birthday was on Saturday and I wanted to say Happy Birthday in my own way.

Some of you who are new to my stream may not realize that I used to primarily be a concert photographer and that I have slowly gotten into more street photography as time has gone on. But, even so, that instinct is still the same-to truly get things right when capturing human energy and the moment and to further my understanding of others and their range of emotions. Whether I am photographing a stage or a street scene, I am a searcher and am trying not to document what things or people looked like but something deeper. Sometimes I fail but sometimes I get it right. I hope I got it right this time.

I did take a few photos on Saturday of the Black Lives Matter protests in Chicago but not of the actual protestors. I took photos of people watching from their windows instead....mainly, because I was there as an ally and to be an active participant and I wanted to make sure I was respectful at all times. I am also concerned that those who participate might be targeted by others in terms of violent acts.

So, instead of for now showing photos of the protest (as so many exist elsewhere and mine are extremely limited), I am going to showcase some of the musicians I have taken photos of in the past few years and celebrate their works. It will be a bit of a change from my usual stream but hopefully not disappointing. I have been very sad that music festivals have been cancelled and also so many concerts I was planning on attending because of this virus but at least I have some of these memories.
