Being very tired of looking out and seeing snow on the ground, I had to make something bright and springy like this Spring Chicken.

Hand appliqued, hand quilted with hand dyed perle cotton.

I'm taking a fabulous class which involves a lot of hand stitching and a wide variety of threads. Some people collect different threads like others collect fabric! The different displays of everyone's threads was beautiful for sure. For this shot, my camera was set at f1/8 and I focused on one spool of Perle Cotton, letting the others blend and meld together. cy365 335/365

A pillowcase embroidered by my mother.

This case and the box of thread sit next to my chair, so that I can do handwork in the evening.

The handwork involved in making a wayang kulit figure that is suitable for a performance takes several weeks, with the artists working together in groups. They start from master models (typically on paper) which are traced out onto skin or parchment, providing the figures with an outline and with indications of any holes that will need to be cut (such as for the mouth or eyes). The figures are then smoothed, usually with a glass bottle, and primed. The structure is inspected and eventually the details are worked through. A further smoothing follows before individual painting, which is undertaken by yet another craftsman. Finally, the movable parts (upper arms, lower arms with hands and the associated sticks for manipulation) mounted on the body, which has a central staff by which it is held. A crew makes up to ten figures at a time, typically completing that number over the course of a week.

At the same time construction of the mom hard cartons, stickers wallpaper and Christmas paper. I've done all the paper boxes, bags, postcards, etc. Other decorations are from domestic stocks or purchased. My mom has produced all of the Christmas candle holders and wreaths. Candelabrum is purchased. All wooden shelves and counters are from the tea boxes and wooden frames to photos. I repainted as needed. Inscription I produced from craft foam.
