A treasured gift….I was given this 1:12 scale doll by a dear friend who owns The Rocking Horse Gallery. I was going to buy her, but she insisted I take her home. Her head and legs are hand-carved from wood. Her delicate hands are cut from metal. Her clothes are hand stitched and she is even wearing a corset underneath. We think she is about 1930’s, possibly made in Germany, so getting close to 100 years old. If anyone knows anything about her, I welcome the info. She is going to be the sole occupant of my next dollhouse, The Painted Lady. I think she’s perfect.

My new year surprise gifts!

slightly updated from last winter's version.

The seed of inspiration for this science ATC was a picture of Einstein with bright red and blue hair and the teaser “quantum weirdness” on the cover of the March Scientific American. Here is the convoluted thought process that ultimately produced this piece: The article was about the counter intuitive nature of quantum mechanics and the problem the quantum effect of entanglement poses to Einstein’s theory of special relativity. The problem, the article posited, is not epistemological rather it is ontological. This made me think of Sister Anselm Mary from whom I took a philosophy class in college. She took the name because she believed Anselm’s Ontological Argument was proof positive of the existence of God. I made the mistake, on a mid-term, of supporting Guanilo’s objection to the “that which nothing greater can be conceived” argument, wherein he replaces Anselm’s superlative being with a superlative island. My powers of logic were no match for Sister Anselm and needless to say, I did not fare too well on that portion of the exam. Which brings me to the point of this piece and its relevance to science--What can we know?

I learned to make this handstitched quilt from an old lady in Hot Springs N.C. in 1971. Every patch is different and were given to me by family and friends.

Back to my old tricks! This one is for a wee bird swap...

Still working on batches of things - teapots and embroidering oak leaves - but I got distracted making this instead: lovely violets!

I did take a workbox photo too, but as I've been tinkering about with my photos I decided to make this my 365 shot instead :)

Round 4 Applique is finished!

I've just ordered some fabric for the next round - a solid for hand quilting. I chose Freespirit Designer Pearl. With some lovely vibrant Perle cotton, I think it'll do the job nicely.

I am really loving the Handstitched course!

Is it possible to get TOO detailed?

al fin hice gatitos... el siamés está disponible.

Hanmade felt pins. The siamese is available.

Hand stitched Japanese Temari Balls. I manipulated the colors.

For Heather who loves aprons, a little vintage fashion with some Katie Jump Rope fabric.

#The100DayProject

Day 80/100

Instead of working at work yesterday, I sketched some new ideas for brooches. Then when I got home I immediately started drawing up patterns and made these three pins - housework and other works in progress got totally ignored in favour of shiny new felt pretties.

One of those super cute Sew lovely embroidery patterns! Been working on this guy for awhile.

I started this whole-cloth quilt with a beautiful blank slate! I wanted to experiment with what would happen if hand-stitching created the design instead of fabric.

Blogged at Six White Horses.

was feeling purple this week, apparently. all fabrics are natural dyed or repurposed (oh, except for the shimmery linen used on the backs of the ochre stars).

photographed under a gloomy sky (which is kind of the usual for this summer, it seems).
