Here is the tree pillow I have lovingly sewn up just for you partner! swirl & loops FMQ around the trees to mimic falling snowflakes, handstitched details around the trees, & an invisible zipper closure on the side.

Hey partner--

Would you like some colorful echo quilting? Machine or handstitched? Or would you prefer some simple gray quilting?

I made this quilt during and after the Handstitched class I took last summer from Rachel at Stitched in Color. I love it and it makes me happy. :)

BLUE

for Karen(blueberry4park) in the Hoop Up Embroidery swap.

A snazzy gardening apron, made from a pair of old jeans. I've sewn it entirely with my hand-cranked vintage sewing machine, which stitched the thick denim fabric with ease.

On Explore (briefly) June 3rd at #128, many thanks for all interest.

It feels like ages since I've been on Flickr, but I've had a good break and have just started to pick up my camera again. I've been doing lots of slow stitching over the last month and there's a tiny part of one of the scrolls I made on the left of this image. Actually, this one was my first. It's 3" deep by almost 4ft long and wraps around a wooden bobbin. I hope each one I create will get a little better, but I won't hold my breath. :)

The hand stitched passementerie button dates from the late 19th century. It amazes me that something so pretty was never used, which means it's still in pristine condition. Somehow I don't think my stitching efforts will ever quite match this. :)

The wicker basket was made in Denmark in the 1970s. Underneath the button are a couple of pieces of tea-dyed fabric - something else I've been trying out recently. It's been fun learning new things. I've even bought myself a set of cheap water colour paints. Of course, I may never show anyone what results from that purchase. I have a feeling it might get messy. :)

Happy New Year, everyone.

Two color November mini quilt swap for Michelle with embroidery pattern by Badbird's (Andrea Zuill).

Brooch made as a gift, but now inspiring me with all sorts of owl-related design thoughts!

This is my latest addition to the plate of gingerbread ornaments...

I was going along so well .... patting myself on the back cuz I was remembering how to do the blanket stitch and didn't I just forget to put in the piece of ribbon to hang it up! I almost forgot to leave an opening to stuff in some fluff to plump it up. And, next time...I cut out all the pieces at the same time so I trim them at the same time and so that ...well, ...they all fit together perfectly without a lot more trimming.... !!

From a distance they just look good enough to eat....

It´s here!

The mail didn´t take too long - yeah!

Look at this beauty! Bren has pieced and appliqued and handstitched and quilted - such a wonderful combination of techniques!

Bren - you have made my day - THANK YOU sooooo much!

Right at this moment I´m looking at it - :)

Some more Headbands for the Shop... Update later today and I forgot to mention that all these made today are OOAK.. Yesterday all but two were!

The Flowers are held on by Brads and handstitched to each ribbon

The ends I sealed with Fraycheck.

The Headbands tie on their heads.. I debated adding Buttons or Velcro but this way you can change which direction you tie it on her head :)

Hand appliqued petals in the Joseph's coat pattern using a charm pack of Moda's Botany for Spiced Coffee in the Charming Mini Swap.

I used the pebble quilting to help create texture and make the "coat" stand out...but as soon as I was finished all I could see was starfish in the sand. And that is what it is now named.

Cotton floss embroidered on linen, 4 inch hoop

Okay this is a littler meaner than my usual embroideries. But I hate how when people find out you sew, they instantly ask "Can you hem my pants?" I tell them I really hate hemming pants and I'd rather have bamboo skewers shoved under my fingernails. Then they say "but its so easy" "If its so easy please do it yourself" (smile)

Hand stitched with love by me.

Hand Embroidery on dictionary page (with a helping of red paint).

I love this material! They used to be the curtains in my bedroom when I was a teenager.

My photo studio is so hi-tech! Haha.

Terrible light (oh the joys of autumn) so anything that doesn't fit on the windowsill (top left) has to be photographed on my kitchen table, dragged across the room. I was standing precariously on a bench taking these shots and as yet have been too lazy to move the table back again. I'm sure I will need to use the oven at some point though...

Something I was going to frame and send for the Coloriffic Swap for March but I wasn't to happy with how it came out :/

All finished and on its way.....mmmm....south-ish. :)

i used liberty lawn to make these blue and white yoyos. then handstitched them at intervals to cream crochet cotton.

Ahhh, finally finished! I have been working on this for a few months on and off, waiting for felt from the US to back and frame it.

Each paisley was individually beaded/sequined and then stitched to the blue backing. The blue was then quilted to the cream (bit hard to see in these photos, but the quilting makes each of the paisleys pop up from the background). The circles around the outside were then stitched directly onto the background and then beaded. The entire piece is backed with felt and 'signed' in stitching on the back.

This piece has been wonderful therapy for me. Working on each paisley gave me a chance to play with different colour ways and beading designs. So much fun and so calming all at the same time.

Finished piece measures 51cm square from border to border.

I have been working for some time on a large piece which will form my contribution to an exhibition in the summer in Bishops Castle in Shropshire.

It was originally going to be based on androgynist silhouettes with accompanying feminist text but recently the emphasis has been changing.

This is because I just want to make these exaggerated portraits and so I have been going with the flow.

Sometimes pieces just tell you where they want to go so for the time being I am just working from instinct and I will see how it all pans out.

The new (and possibly temporary) title is "The writing on the wall"

A treasured gift….I was given this 1:12 scale doll by a dear friend who owns The Rocking Horse Gallery. I was going to buy her, but she insisted I take her home. Her head and legs are hand-carved from wood. Her delicate hands are cut from metal. Her clothes are hand stitched and she is even wearing a corset underneath. We think she is about 1930’s, possibly made in Germany, so getting close to 100 years old. If anyone knows anything about her, I welcome the info. She is going to be the sole occupant of my next dollhouse, The Painted Lady. I think she’s perfect.

My new year surprise gifts!
