Half way up (or so I was to believe) to the second lake. Had to pause and take this shot looking back down at the first lake.
For a certain period of time, I wanted to photograph this old house. Now, with this wonderful christmas-lighting, I had to capture it.
I was really quite disturbed as I headed along the ridge from Mam Tor. Climbing up Back Tor I came up to a rock upon which someone had painted the words "Half Way". I looked all around me. There was no one else in sight. In fact I had hardly seen a soul for the last hour. How did anyone know this was, "Half way?" I hadn't told anyone where I was going. I hadn't even planned how far I would go myself. How on earth could 'they' possibly know? It was ridiculous ! For all they knew I could have been walking to Leeds!
But it was the truth that haunted me. Because unknown to them (surely?) this was the spot where I turned round and retraced my steps several miles back to my car. Where they had painted "Half Way" was precisely half distance in my walk that morning! Spooky or what? Or was it a sign from above?
The last of Sunlight lights up the gigantic cliff face of Yosemite’s iconic Half Dome. This perspective, zoomed in to 400mm from two miles away, shows the cliff face’s character catching the warm hued sunlight as it is chased away by the shadow rising from below. An unnamed outcrop sticks out on the eastern side of Half Dome, shown here on the left. What an incredible view it would be up there in that spot only accessible by skilled rock climbers. A few trees straddle the otherwise knife edge overlooking the granite wall and its array of cracks and patterns of varnish. Patterns of moisture leave a waterfall of dark varnish down the face suddenly interrupted here and there by the peeling off of layers by slow but relentless exfoliation through the millennia.

Half Dome in Yosemite, from a different angle, lending a new affect to this iconic feature. From Illilouette Ridge, south of Glacier Point. Tenaya Canyon to its left, Clouds Rest to the right. The tree is a juniper or a cedar, not sure which; it's heavily sculpted by the wind on this exposed ridge. Mt. Conness on the horizon just right of the tree.
