The final batch of 26 Guy Arab V in the Lancashire United fleet had "F" suffix registrations, as did Manchester's first Mancunian double deckers - a world apart!

Prior to the service changes in November 1977, the long service 20 from Farnworth via Swinton, Eccles and Irlam had 3 different terminal points, Cadishead Glaze Estate, Hollins Green and Glazebrook. 274 is seen outside the Post Office at Glazebrook, having done a u-turn in the road ready for the return journey.

This was a nice guy I met downtown on a photo walk today. I wanted to take a photo of Him and His bike the second I saw Him. As I was passing by I just said "How's it goin?!" He said good. I said it's hot as crap outside. He agreed. I told Him I dug His tunnels (gages). I then asked to take His photo. And I said "I'm not here! Just do Your thing".

I have a tough time sometimes figuring out how to approach People about taking Their photo and making Them look natural. Now before I go further We must face Our fears and realize that Our fear is much worse than the consequences of something going wrong. Lets be honest, in Our minds We expect the person to hear the question and start yelling "HOW DARE YOU!!" *flailing arms violently at Your face* "AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH RAPE!" This is extremely unrational. I mean okay.. Even if something like that did happen would it really be that bad?? Is it as scary as the fear tries to persuade You it is? I think if We are honest We would say no. On a normal day the worst answer You will get is "No". You say "Okay great thanks for Your time! Have a great day!" On to Your next victim. Okay! See that felt good.

Sometimes sneaking the shot works which I do. This is all according to the shot You are after. But more times than not if You want a close, wide shot with a 35mm and so on type lens You are gonna have to let Them know You wanna take Their photo just to be able to give Them the oh so effective "I'm not here."

I have found that one thing that makes it very easy for Me is to comment on something You think is interesting about the person. This could come after a second of talking or it could be the first thing out of Your mouth. So for Me it was His gages. I don't quite know Why but it seems to be an awesome transition into "Would it be cool if I took Your photo!?" This also can develop quickly or after more conversation into Them telling You interesting things about Themselves. Which is the essence of a successful photo. A story.

This guy was totally cool with it and proceeded to smoke His cigarette and was asking Me about Myself as I was finding the shot I wanted. He said He was a skateboarder which made Him used to photos.

The name of the photo comes from the idea that He has a bike and can go anywhere in the city quickly and easily. He can walk out the door of His house (or I assume), hop on His bike and go anywhere. No gas to pay for. No traffic. Just Him and His bike. I love this idea! When I found Him though He was taking a rest in the park just relaxing and enjoying the weather. His bike taking a seat right beside Him. He was able to sit back for a second and relax but He is not confined to this spot that He got to by a car that He stuffed in some parking deck 4 blocks away. He is free to roam the city.

Celebrations for Yorkshire Day 2020 were a little muted because of the Coronavirus pandemic so the Dewsbury Bus Museum put on a limited "drive-by" display of two old West Riding half-cabs, a 1948 all-Leyland PD2 and a 1957 Roe-bodied Guy Arab.

They are seen here taking a short break in Northgate, Wakefield before setting off to explore more of West Riding's old territory.

Guys will be guys

I'm feeling a bit blue now. I just this evening learned from an old friend, who just found out, that my first 'boyfriend' died five years ago. We went steady in 6th grade and he gave me a necklace with a little fake silver charm of a surfer, which I hung on a nail on my bedroom wall when I wasn't wearing it. The going steady only lasted about a month. It ended when a bunch of us went to a house that was being built and played spin the bottle. When it was our turn to kiss, I got scared and ran all the way home! We stayed friends till we were about twenty and even became next door neighbors in junior high. Here he is in 1968 when we were in high school. Everybody thought that with his curly hair and strong profile, he looked like a greek god. Rest In Peace, Guy.
