Companies within the British Electric Traction consortium enjoyed greater leeway than their state-owned counterparts that formed the Tilling Group. Southdown Motor Services was one of several BET subsidiaries that continued to order Guy chassis into the 1950s, this preserved Guy Arab IV being one such example. No.547 (PUF647) was fitted with a Park Royal body and was new in 1956.
Unfortunately, Southdown was precluded from ordering any more Guy vehicles: top management at BET ordered that fleet managers place their future orders primarily with Leyland or AEC, as part of a group deal to secure better manufacturers’ discounts.
This view of PUF647 was captured at Sheffield Park station, when it was operating a free connection to the Bluebell Railway from Hayward’s Heath station.

One of the oldest bags in my collection. Two Guys was a department store in several north eastern states. Half of the store was groceries. They went out of business in the early 80's.
On a visit to this operator in Newtown Powys to seek out an ex-Maidstone and District AEC Reliance, we came across this refugee from London. Were any Guy specials ever scrapped?
