The Postcard
A postcard published by Sussex East Girl Guides. It was printed by Judges Postcards Ltd. of Hastings.
The card was posted on the Sussex Coast on Monday the 12th. August 1985 to:
Mr. J.H. Denyer,
176, Latimer Road,
Eastbourne,
Sussex.
The message on the divided back of the card was as follows:
"Dear John,
Things are settling down
a bit after a hectic start.
We have been to the
harbour and cliffs and the
lifeboat and we plan to go
to the swimming pool today.
Janette is doing quite well.
The weather has been
rather blustery.
See you soon,
Love Mary".

The Crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123
So what else happened on the day that Mary posted the card?
Well, on the 12th. August 1985 there was a major air crash.
Japan Airlines Flight 123 was a domestic passenger flight from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Osaka International Airport, Japan. The Boeing 747SR suffered a sudden decompression twelve minutes into the flight and crashed in the area of Mount Takamagahara, 100 kilometres (62 miles) from Tokyo thirty-two minutes later.
Japan's Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission officially concluded that the rapid decompression was caused by a faulty repair by Boeing technicians after a tailstrike incident during a landing at Osaka Airport seven years earlier in 1978.
A plate on the rear bulkhead of the plane had been improperly repaired, compromising the plane's airworthiness. Cabin pressurization continued to expand and contract the improperly repaired bulkhead until the day of the accident, when the faulty repair finally failed, causing the rapid decompression that ripped off a large portion of the tail and caused the loss of hydraulic controls to the entire plane.
The aircraft, configured with increased economy class seating, was carrying 524 people. Casualties of the crash included all 15 crew members and 505 of the 509 passengers.
Some passengers survived the initial crash, but subsequently died of their injuries hours later, mostly due to the Japan Self-Defense Forces' decision to wait until the next day to go to the crash site, after declining an offer from a nearby United States Air Force base to start an immediate rescue operation.
It is the deadliest single-aircraft accident in aviation history.

In stories, Horses have always been one of mankind best ally. At one point, we should go deeper in our soul at the search for our true self, to dicover it, understand it and to unlock it ; to make it our best ally in life.
Every time i see an horse, I'm thinking at my friend and these wise words that touched me deeply.

An 18thC Guide Stoop signed to 'Shefeild' and 'Tidswell' at Deadshaw Sick on Big Moor. It has two dates, 1737 and 1775, carved into it.
Although the new services on the guided busway were busy, especially the V1 to and from Leigh, I was the only passenger waiting at the Sale Lane stop where I changed from the V2 from Atherton to the V1 to Leigh.
Mountain tested. Mountain approved.
