There is always something new to slap you upside the head. I think that is why I find photography so challenging. Not only do you need to know how all of your gear works, from aperture to flash, but knowing how to get your subject to cooperate can be a long uphill pull.
For instance, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make a grandchild fake a happy smile. It's easy to get grownups to smile. Just tell them you're posting their photo on the internet. Great blackmail. But you can't make a cat a willing model for a portrait, even if you put catnip in a toy mouse. They LIKE their grumpy pictures on the internet.
I'm going to have to be more cunning. Use more tricks. I'm going to have to get inside the heads of children and cats, learn their weak points and use them to my advantage. This train hasn't reached the station yet, but when it does, I'm going to be the one tooting the horn.
came out to drink earlier tonight. He's a Banded Gila monster (Heloderma suspectum cinctum). Gila monsters are endangered and venomous, spending atout 90 percent of their time sleeping in burrows in their native habitat of the southwestern United States. Photo by Frank
Close up of grumpy tiger.
This tiger just didn't like me. Every time I got near the fence to take a photo is jumped at the fence trying to attack. She was just plain bad to the bones.

Grumpy Bear Lives! Taken about a year ago at Mont Tremblant, this photo is the one used in my profile pic. The smile says I just may enjoy being grumpy (a little). The ears are courtesy of a goofy hat from my friend Atousa.
Grumpy spits out his dummy at being made to take part in the Dreams Come True parade at the Magic Kingdom.
Infant babies has such a range of expressions. Angelique was only a few weeks old when this photo was taken. She likes to eat, frequently.. and if she doesnt get the bottle, she gets grumpy and cries. But.. give her too much and it all comes back up.

I changed my normal weekend hike to concentrate less on climbing hills and trekking through the woods to go towards the bay and walk amongst the crowds of birds and people. I had an itch to get some pictures of wildlife so that I would get better aquainted with using my camera to get quick shots before the holidays started.
The closest location for wildlife is right outside the window, but waiting for crows at a dumpster isn't very fun, so I went to the Shoreline Park. I brought my smc P-K 200mm F2.5 lens, since I've really not had a good chance to explore what this lens can do, and getting pictures of birds seemed like a good test.
This bird has a classic sour expression, leading me to give it this title.
Snapped using a Pentax K10D camera with the smc P-K 200mm F2.5 lens. No filters used. PP with UFRaw. 100% crop using GIMP.
