Sitting by his borrow, this Burrowing Owl flashes a glare under a furrowed brow. He has picked a burrow in the midst of a sports park. In the early morning and late evening hours the park seems fairly placid and peaceful. At night, the bright overhead lights serve to attract many insects, providing what is likely a bountiful meal for these small but stealthy birds. By day, however, the park can be transformed into a rowdy and raucous bed of human activity. With a multitude of softball, soccer, and cricket games and a large and loud skateboarding park just one hundred feet away, it's amazing that these birds hang around at all. Yet they do! And they manage to raise their young despite the apparent ignorance and intrusions from thousands of visitors. So I could understand if these little owls were a bit perturbed at the humans they encounter. After spending many hours watching them, however, they seem almost oblivious to human activity, even when it is nearby. So despite the glare, I think that Mr. Grumpy isn't really grumpy at all. #BurrowingOwls
Fynn is grumpy because I haven't allowed him to go outside over the weekend. It was damp and cold and I thought that this kind of weather wouldn't make is respiratory infection any better. He is quite okay, doesn't seem to feel really sick, and of course he doesn't understand why Luan is allowed to go out whereas he has to stay in the house.
Well I am back from the netherlands and I had a seriously Fantastic time! Saw some wonderful animals, Spotted some serious cars and of Course meet Santapanter (AKA Teun). This is my favourite shot that I took over there! Taken with my new Macro lens with Flash which I never use which I diffused with a handkerchief and taken at 1600ISO and the result is probably one of my best shots ever! What do you guys think!

I thought I'd spend some relaxing time nosing around the garden with my macro lens and then I ran into these crabby fellows. These are the grumpiest pansies ever. Talk about buzz killers. Harumphf!!

I enjoy giving the rock formations names. So I thought this looked like a grumpy old man.
I understand if you don't see it, but I enjoy doing it.
I think I counted doing close to 30 family photos last year, and every one of them wanted to have that group photo of everyone looking straight ahead with award-winning natural smiles on their faces. But we know that’s not the typical emotion felt around the house, so with this one I asked them to all give me a pouty face. I literally had time to snap this one shot before they all busted up laughing. See, personality is fun. And we did get that all-smiles shot as well.
Now for bonus points one of these lovely ladies are pursuing acting. Which pouty female here do you think it is?
President Business isn't happy that someone could possibly be more grumpy than him. Besides Lego head is bigger, so he wins!
Long-nosed horned frog (Megophrys nasuta) - Poring Nature Reserve, Malaysia
I have seen many incredible animals in Borneo; elephants, orangutans, leopard cats, bearded pigs but despite the charismatic mammalian fauna the Horned frog remains one of my favorite bornean critters. These frogs spend nearly all their time on the forest floor where they sit and wait for prey to wander near them, they then swallow their prey whole with their enormous mouths. Interestingly the tadpoles of this species also have large mouths but are not at all predatory, they have modified lips & mouth structures that form a funnel which funnels various particles such as pollen, dust, and bacteria into the tadpoles mouth where the good bits are filtered out. A rather unusual feeding mechanism among tadpoles and not what i would have expected from the tadpole stage of these impressive frowning frogs.

The guides at the camp I visited named this stately lion Grumpy. In 10 years of travel to Africa, this was the only lion I encountered that would menace a safari vehicle (in this instance, he sat in the road to obstruct the vehicle). Drivers were extra careful around him, as you'd expect.
