Long-nosed horned frog (Megophrys nasuta) - Poring Nature Reserve, Malaysia
I have seen many incredible animals in Borneo; elephants, orangutans, leopard cats, bearded pigs but despite the charismatic mammalian fauna the Horned frog remains one of my favorite bornean critters. These frogs spend nearly all their time on the forest floor where they sit and wait for prey to wander near them, they then swallow their prey whole with their enormous mouths. Interestingly the tadpoles of this species also have large mouths but are not at all predatory, they have modified lips & mouth structures that form a funnel which funnels various particles such as pollen, dust, and bacteria into the tadpoles mouth where the good bits are filtered out. A rather unusual feeding mechanism among tadpoles and not what i would have expected from the tadpole stage of these impressive frowning frogs.
I think I counted doing close to 30 family photos last year, and every one of them wanted to have that group photo of everyone looking straight ahead with award-winning natural smiles on their faces. But we know that’s not the typical emotion felt around the house, so with this one I asked them to all give me a pouty face. I literally had time to snap this one shot before they all busted up laughing. See, personality is fun. And we did get that all-smiles shot as well.
Now for bonus points one of these lovely ladies are pursuing acting. Which pouty female here do you think it is?
President Business isn't happy that someone could possibly be more grumpy than him. Besides Lego head is bigger, so he wins!

Chelmsford, I got burnt to a crisp, even socks hurt today... must remember the factor 50!

For Texans, the past several days were CRAZY weather-wise. It snowed, y'all! And not just a little sprinkling of wet slushy snow that melts almost instantly, but lots of that soft, white powder. For some parts of the state it was several inches deep. Locally we had at least 4 inches and it stayed for a while because the temperatures stay below freezing for days. With the exception of our very northernmost residents in the Panhandle, most of us are not equipped for this type of weather and it showed. Massive electric outages, utility shutdowns in cities, grocery and gasoline shortages because of highway shutdowns. Some lives were lost, sadly. But I put on my warmest clothing (not warm enough) and took the camera out for a tour of our property. We were without power for a day and without internet for a bit longer but I'm finally posting some of the many images I captured. It's pretty new for us Texans, so all you people who have it all the time will have to bear with us as we load the internet with our pictures. I have many more that I hope to get to.
This little Carolina wren did not seem amused by the weather.

the 12 apostles and Jesus walked into a restaurant and asked for a table for 25. The waiter said "but there are only 13 of you". James (Santiago) replied, "Yes but we normally only sit down one side of a table"
These guys do look so very complainey (zoom in to see the entitled complainey grumpiness on the faces) - i'd really hate to be their waiter!

Today Morris is 12 Weeks old but today was also his first trip to the vet......I don't think he was Impressed!!
This cheetah was looking quite grumpy on the picture, but actually, this is often the case. Anyway, they are pretty!
So, a few people in the office made up a poster of all the Mr Men and Little Miss characters, stuck it up in the office kitchen and assigned names for everyone.
I embraced mine... fighting these things never works.
I then pointed out to my team that they had now been in the kitchen for half an hour and, when they finish the giggle-fest, some actual work would be nice.
