Sadly, this griddle wasn't in the box. Just the metal grates for it. I thought this picture was funny anyway.
We were going to do brunch at The Griddle Cafe on Saturday before I went to the movie at the DGA Theatre, but Shobhit suggested we postpone it until Tuesday before I fly home. Still trying to work our way through their extensive menu! I had a griddle item last time, so this time it was an egg dish: the "Poached y Papas Benedict" -- but with tomatoes substituted for ham. It comes with potatoes instead of the usual English muffin. So good!
Shobhit had the Italian Vegetarian Melt, from the lunch menu. This might be the first time he didn't order a breakfast item.
No. Not a bar-b-cue or a snow ball making machine! This is the mesh on an outside table in the apiary.
We trudged up a couple flights of stairs in Hiroshima in an unmarked concrete building. What we found: floors 5 and 6 were dedicated to nothing but stalls of okonomiyaki makers!
We sat on the edge of the griddle, ordered one to be shared by two people, were then mocked in Japanese for not ordering enough (but we wanted to sample our way around!). Ordered "fu-tat-su biru" to save face. Ended up waaaay to full (but in a good way) and a bit tipsy.
Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki are made on the griddle with noodles, bacon, egg, ginger, scallions, bonito flakes, teriyaki sauce and mayo. It slides over to you and you eat it off the griddle with a spatula to cut it up.
If I had to do it again, and I will...I wont spray the grill w/Pam first. Not needed as the chicken was oily enough

Found this on my last trip to the farm in a junk shop. It wasn't too bad, actually, and I reseasoned it pretty fast. The best part is that it was only $13.
Marinated the chicken the night before. For the marinade I used 2 T Olive oil, 1/4 t cayenne, 1/4 t paprika, 1 t Lawry's garlic salt...placed 4 chicken thighs in a bowl w/these ingredients, made sure all surfaces of the meat were coated, in to a 1 gallon baggie they all went over night in the fridge
Every meal at Oyster included a chewy tortilla-like flatbread. I learned that a village woman would come in and make it, rolling the bread out with a thin rolling pin on that low, round table, wrapping it over the pin, and then deftly transferring it to a flat griddle over the charcoal fire. She let me take her picture.
Gigantor pile of pancakes with a shot of espresso and bittersweet chocolate pieces in the batter. Yum.
I swear the waiter knew we were going to ask for one pancake to share after brunch. I swear he grinned a little at us.

Christian actually managed to finish the rest of the pancakes (he did bike 25 miles roundtrip though)
