This little gray Screech Owl is a resident of the Stillman Nature Center. Unfortunately, his left eye was injured to the point where he could no longer hunt on his own and would have, thus, died from starvation. He was found and brought to the great folks at the nature center who love and feed him and were gracious enough to allow photographs.

Stillman Nature Center is a private not-for-profit center for environmental education located on 80 acres of wood, lakes and prairie in South Barrington, Illinois and offers programs for school groups, public programs and nature walks. For mor information on this fantastic gem, please visit their website: www.stillmannc.org/.

In addition to this beautiful bird, they have raptors of other kinds such as a Great Horned Owl, a Broad Winged Hawk, a Peregrine Falcon and an adorable little red Screech Owl. It is definitely worth a visit!

Gray Wolf, Taken at The Scottish Deer Centre in Scotland

The gray wolf is a species of canid native to the wilderness and remote areas of North America, Eurasia, and the Horn of Africa. It is the largest member of its family, with males averaging 95-100 lbs, and females 80-85 lbs.

The gray wolf is one of the world's most well researched animals, with probably more books written about it than any other wildlife species.

The Gray Catbird mimics the songs of other birds, as well as those of tree frogs, and even mechanical sounds

He is modeled after a Andalusian horse. He is completely hand sculpted from polymer clay and epoxy, over a wire and foil armature. No molds were used in the making of this sculpture, nor were any made. He is hand painted with acrylic paint. The mane and tail are mohair. He is about 7in long and just under 4 in tall.

The Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea), is a wading bird of the heron family Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa. It is resident in the milder south and west, but many birds retreat in winter from the ice in colder regions.

Its plumage is largely grey above, and off-white below. Adults have a white head with a broad black supercilium and slender crest, while immatures have a dull grey head. It has a powerful, pinkish-yellow bill, which is brighter in breeding adults. It has a slow flight, with its long neck retracted (S-shaped). This is characteristic of herons and bitterns, and distinguishes them from storks, cranes and spoonbills, which extend their necks. The call is a loud croaking "fraaank". It feeds in shallow water, catching fish, frogs, and insects with its long bill. Herons will also take small mammals, reptiles and occasionally warbler nestlings, plovers, young and adult snipes, takes ducklings and tern chicks and other small birds.

The carcass of an immature gray whale (Eschrichtius robustus), sits on Arroyo Beach in Western Seattle, Washington after perishing the previous day. It is unknown why the whale washed ashore, although starvation may have been a factor; Wednesday, April 15, 2010. This is the fourth gray whale to be found dead in the Puget Sound in recent weeks. There are about 20 or more very similar looking and closely related species of this attractive little fellow, of which the Gray Hairstreak is the most common hairstreak in North America. For this reason I think I have a pretty good chance of getting it correct by calling him a Gray Hairstreak, but if you find I am in error please let me know and I will correct the error.
