Windrush

The first grasshopper photo of the trip. Not as colourful as many in the Neotropics.

This was a very common species on the trip. It is an attractive species and particularly pleasing to find a mating pair I could photograph.

The awful Grasshopper Coffeeshop - it's the first one that you'll see when you come out of Amsterdam Centraal Station - avoid it like the plague, they are very rude, very expensive and poor quality. A hundred yards further on and there are some great places :)

Young Grasshopper Warbler in the greenery

pop-up card, grasshopper

I found this grasshopper sitting on a lily in my backyard. I ran inside, grabbed my camera, came back outside and shot away. I was able to hold the stem of the flower with one hand to prevent it from swaying in the wind, and shoot with the other. The grasshopper didn't like me getting in its face and kept turning away, finally jumping into a bed of Queen Anne's Lace. Taken at a 1:1 ration with a difused speedlight, edited in Color Efex Pro, Dfine, and Lightroom. Chicago, Illinois.
