A note of explanation on how I got this shot. This creature landed on the frame of the window near the bricks on the front of our house. I was focusing in as I stood away from the wall, but realized I could get a better shot coming down from above. In the processing, I simply 'flipped' the image, making it seem like I took the photo from inside the window looking down. See comment section to see the original photo.

Common Green Grasshopper, omocestus viridulus . Not the most photogenic of species but still a beauty to behold . Taken on observatory field at Styal
I shot this photo in 2011 with the Olympus E-30 and the Zuiko Digital 70-300mm lens. From what I can tell, I found this creature hopping about near Fort Rod Hill on Vancouver Island. It certainly is an interesting looking subject.
The grasshopper is an insect of the suborder Caelifera in the order Orthoptera. To distinguish it from bush crickets or katydids, it is sometimes referred to as the short-horned grasshopper. Species that change colour and behaviour at high population densities are called locusts.

This sunflower stem looks like a soft fuzzy pillow to this grasshopper, that's what I think. It also looks like he's surfing the curl wave only his is a sunflower leaf wave.

I only got a few shots off before this large grasshopper jumped and flew away... Still pleased with the results here, though it could have been a bit sharper...
