Barnabitengasse (6), benannt (1862) nach dem Orden der Barnabiten, dem die Betreuung der Mariahilfer Kirche übertragen war; angelegt auf dem Terrain des 1790 parzellierten Barnabitenfriedhofs (1797 Freythof Gasse, 1827 und 1852 Kleine Kirchengasse). Von der Barnabitenkirche (Mariahilfer Kirche) spannt sich zu den ältesten Häusern Nummer 14 (Pfarrhof, zweite Hälfte 18. Jahrhundert) und 16 (erbaut 1770) ein Schwibbogen. Die Verbauung stammt teilweise aus dem Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts.
Mariahilfer Kirche (6, Mariahilfer Straße bei 55; ursprünglich [bis 1923] Klosterkirche der Barnabiten, dann Pfarr- [1783] und Wallfahrtskirche „Maria Himmelfahrt"). An der Stelle der heutigen Kirche erstreckte sich der alte Grund „Im Schöff“. Hier kauften die Barnabiten ein Grundstück an, das 1660 von Bischof Philipp Friedrich von Breuner zum Friedhof erklärt wurde. Für die dort erbaute hölzerne Kapelle stiftete der Barnabit Cölestin Joanelli 1660 ein ihm gehörendes Mariahilf-Bild, eine Kopie des auf dem Mariahilfer Berg zu Passau verehrten Gnadenbilds, das bald großen Zuzug von Hilfesuchenden bewirkte. 1668/1669 wurde eine steinerne Kapelle errichtet. Diese und das später daneben errichtete kleine Wohngebäude für Priester wurde jedoch 1683 während der Osmanenbelagerung niedergebrannt. Das Bild wurde durch den Mesner Erhard Lampel gerettet und im kaiserlichen Oratorium der Kirche "Zum heiligen Michael" in der Stadt verwahrt. 1686 legte Fürstbischof Ernst Graf Trautson an der Stelle, wo die alte Kapelle gestanden war, den Grundstein zu einer neuen Marienkirche, die durch fromme Spenden und die Munifizenz von Paul Fürst Esterházy (auf dessen Grund sie errichtet wurde) erbaut werden konnte. In sie wurde das Marienbild übertragen (Pläne von Sebastiano Carlone). 1730 war die Kirche in ihrer heutigen Gestalt vollendet. Am 22. Oktober wurde sie durch Kardinal Sigismund von Kollonitsch geweiht. Das Marienbild wurde 1758 auf den Hauptaltar übertragen. Die Malereien im Kirchengewölbe stammen von den Paul-Troger-Schülern Johann Hauzinger und Franz Xaver Strattmann. Die Kirche wurde, nachdem die lange steinerne Mauer, die sie gegen die Mariahilfer Straße abgeschlossen hatte, demontiert war, mit dem Pfarrhof durch einen Schwibbogen verbunden. In der Nähe dieses Bogens befindet sich an der Kirche in einer angebauten Kapelle der überlebensgroße Christus am Kreuz, der früher an der Fassade des „Malefizspitzbubenhauses" (Amtshaus) angebracht war. Hinter der Kirche lag der bis zur Windmühlgasse reichende Friedhof, der 1784 aufgelassen wurde. Die Kirche wurde 1783 Pfarrkirche. Bis 1923 war sie von Barnabiten betreut (die daneben ihr Kloster hatten), seither besorgen Salvatorianer die Betreuung. In der Kirche befinden sich zahlreiche Kultgegenstände, die zu vielen Wallfahrten Anlass gaben (1733 zählte man zum Beispiel noch 97.682 Kommunikanten). Vor der Kirche standen einst eine Pestsäule und ein Brunnen mit einer Statue des heiligen Leopold. 1890-1893 wurde die Kirche restauriert. 1987-1991 erfolgte eine Generalsanierung (einschließlich des Deckenfreskos). Vor der Kirche steht das Haydndenkmal.
