ODC—how I get my news—

I still read the morning paper while I drink my coffee; and so often the news is troubling. We have been anticipating this announcement for a long time. Goodbye, lawn.

"Cardinal Waves Goodbye' by Patti Deters. A red Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) raises a wing as he perches on a slender tree branch. With him facing the edge of the frame, it looks like he is waving goodbye - and about to fly away. This adult male cardinal, easily identifiable by its red feathers and black mask around the beak, is a common yet charismatic songbird found across North and Central America - this particular bird was photographed in the Rio Grande River Valley at Laguna Seca Ranch in southern Texas, USA. As I post these shots in the final few hours of 2017, we turn our backs on another year. So as it's goodbye to 2017, here are some of the rear views of some of the superb Mortons Travel of Little London fleet.

Seen at the Mortons of Little London depot in November 2017 is Volvo B9TL / East Lancs Myllennium Nordic CH63/39F Y14BUS 'Eryn Rose'. The 102-seater was new to Weavaway of Newbury as OU05KLA in 2005.

As I made my way carefully down the mountainside in the near dark, I spotted this large Saguaro looking almost as if waiving goodbye to me... or maybe it was saying hello. In my mind, it was a clear sign to me that I was meant to be there on that night.

And now I say goodbye to blue week, but hello to many more colours and pictures ahead...

Somewhere in the world, it is summer now!

Last summer's photo. Still trying to revise this summer's.

One of the biggest shocks to the aviation industry in recent years has been the collapse of Thomas Cook, the largest collapse since Monarch entered into administration back in 2017.

Thomas Cook has been a feature on both the British high-street and the aviation industry for decades; with the company having been founded 178 years ago providing package tours from the East Midlands to London.

The demise came a massive shock which came without much warning to both the employees and customers... The suddenness as well as the reason surrounding their closure becomes more clear as the parent company was in huge debt, despite the airlines being profitable. The closure sees yet another well known British airline collapse; the response from other airlines and travel organisations to ensure those left unemployed did have jobs.

The majority of the aircraft have since been placed into storage whilst those on leases have returned back to their leasing companies looking fo new homes; Jet2 most notably have agreed to acquire 7 Airbus A321s from Thomas Cook, interestingly the former Monarch examples.

It is a sad goodbye to one of the longest established airlines and companies in the UK; goodbye Thomas Cook.

Mike Lima Juliet Lima was one of 7 Airbus A330-200s in service with Thomas Cook before their collapse, delivered new to Airtours International Airways on 15th June 1999 before transferring to MyTravel on 1st May 2002, later being acquired by Thomas Cook on 21st November 2007 and was briefly wet-leased to Garuda Indonesia on 18th September 2012 before returning back to Thomas Cook on 29th November 2012. She is currently in storage at Manchester following Thomas Cook's collapse on 23rd September 2019 and earns the distinction for operating Thomas Cook's last ever flight on MT2643 from Orlando-International to Manchester. She is powered by 2 Rolls-Royce Trent 772B-60 engines.

Airbus A330-243 G-MLJL arrives at Manchester (MAN) Terminal 1 after working MT2719 from Las Vegas-McCarran (LAS), Nevada.

Hello to someone browsing thru my Flickr account.

It's been a jolly ride with many great photographers all over the world since I joined this platform 12 years ago.

Today, however, I decided to leave flickr for good. The main reason is that flickr has become a platform for porn pictures, and as a portrait professional I feel it is not okay to continue posting here. Don't take me wrong, porn is awesome, but it's far from what my photos are made of.

Once upon a time, the best photographers in the world were showing artful masterpieces on flickr, they inspired me a lot along the way. But unfortunately, it has been a lot less inspirations on this platform, instead, porns are taking over.

This is a decision I should have made several years back, anyway, here i am. Goodbye to all my friends that we shared at least a moment of WOW with simple beauty of photography.

You can find me on other social media.

Best,

Moos Wu

Tendiná,

El Paso, La Palma.

Thurs 12.31.15 - Dear 2015, you were better than 2014, and much much much better than 2013. May your child, 2016, be the best year to date.

Now the end of March. The snow is gone, the rains are propagating flowers.... goodbye winter.

Our daughters always wanted to have turtles as pets, and we got four of them (two for each, to be fair) about a couple months ago. They have taken very good care of them, getting them outside everyday so that they could bask in the sun (they need it at least a couple hours a day to get certain nutritions like calcium), changing waters every week, cleaning up the tanks, feeding…

About a couple of weeks ago, we decided to take the turtles to the river, thinking it would be fun to let them swim in the river, bask in the sun for few hours, maybe even let them eat small fishes. Girls were excited about the idea, and we had a blast that day…, until when the sudden tragedy hit us.

Yoko, our younger one, distracted by the "other funs" she found around the river, took her eyes off of one of her turtles, "Chiro". Kyoko, our elder one, not knowing "Chiro" was on one of the stones near her in the river, accidentally stepped on it and killed it. I knew "Chiro" was there on the stone, being still (It is really hard to spot a turtle on the stones because of their colors), yelled at Kyoko "Watch out!", but it was too late. Yoko, playing in the river, several feet away from where "Chiro" was, did not know what had happened, but as soon as she saw my face, she realized she lost one of her turtles.

"Chiro" was always the weakest of four, and Yoko had to take extra good care of it. She was always concerned about "Chiro", worried so much when it did not eat well, or when it did not move as energetic as others, even prayed at nights for "Chiro"'s health. Kyoko of course knew all that, and she knew exactly what she had done to her little sister.

I honestly did not have words to tell them for a minute, and then finally told Yoko never to look at "Chiro", and asked Kyoko to bring it over to me (I was a few feet away from her). I looked at it and knew right away it had zero chance of survival. I told Yoko that "Chiro" had gone to heaven, and that we had to say good bye to it right here, right now (I did not want her to see "Chiro").

I will never forget Yoko's face. I had never seen her like that. She was shocked, in disbelief, and then the sorrow came in slowly. She started sobbing, still looking straight at me, as if she was hoping that I could still do something for "Chiro" to come back. Kyoko started crying, too. She has always been an animal lover. One of her dreams is to work for a pet shop. She could not believe she just killed her little sister's favorite turtle. Even though she has been malicious and unkind to her little sister very often for the past several months (She is twelve years old. she's that age, if you know what I mean), she would never, ever do something like this or even think about doing it.

My wife was at home, and I was alone with my girls. I knew I had to do something or say something right away, but honestly, I did not know what the right thing to do/say was. If there was a person who should be blamed, it was me. I knew "Chiro" was on the stone, right near where Kyoko was. I could have told Kyoko to be careful, pointing to "Chiro" to let her know it was there. I should have told Yoko to come back and watch "Chiro" closely. I did not do any of that. I was with another turtle, watching it, did not say a word, until it was too late.

I told them (both now crying helplessly) to come over to me, and held them tight, telling them "It was nobody's fault, and even though it was Kyoko who unfortunately ended up stepping on "Chiro", it was everybody's fault. We were all little careless and distracted a little". I told Yoko "Never blame your sister. I know you will not. I know you are old enough, smart enough to know that sometimes accidents happen. Kyoko never meant to do something like that. Look at her. She is as sad as you are. I feel sorry for her, because we all know how much Kyoko loves animals, don't we? I am sure it was the last thing in the world she wanted to do". Then I told Kyoko "It is not your fault. I am sorry for not being careful enough to let you know where "Chiro" was". I held them tight again for few minutes, hearing them sobbing, and told them to hold each other. I told Kyoko to apologize to Yoko (After all, I thought the apology was necessary for both of them to get over the whole thing).

They held each other awkwardly, still crying, and then I heard Kyoko's low voice, saying "So sorry Yoko", then Yoko, "It is OK, Kyoko". I wanted to cry myself...

After a while, we all said goodbye to "Chiro" and promised it to come back soon to "see it" again.

We went home, and I talked to my wife about what had happened. My wife said we should get another turtle for Yoko right away, but I thought otherwise, and told my wife we should probably wait at least for a couple of weeks to let them think about the whole thing. I thought it was a very good opportunity for them to think about the importance of "life", responsibility that comes with having pets, and about each other, about caring for each other. Now that "Chiro" was gone, there were three turtles left, two of them being Kyoko's. Every time they see turtles, they will remember about what happened at the river. I thought we should give them some time to think about the whole thing before getting another turtle for Yoko.

About a week later, my mom, their grandmother, asked Yoko (they were alone) "How are your turtles", not knowing at all what had happened. Yoko did not want to lie, so told her grandmother about the "incident", and after a pose, she told her grandmother to pretend she did not hear about it. I asked Yoko why she wanted her grandma to pretend not knowing about it, and Yoko said "Because Kyoko will be embarrassed and I feel sorry for her if she found out everybody knew about it". She told my mom what had happened because she did not want to lie, but did not forget to think of her elder sister. I was so proud of Yoko's decision, and I was so happy to know that the girls do care for each other. They may not be as close as they used to be, and they may be fighting 80% of the time they are together at home now, but they still care very much about each other.

I was a very proud father.

This shot was taken several days ago, when we returned to the river for the first time since "the day", four of us, with four turtles (yes, we bought another turtle for Yoko, only a week after the incident. I could not wait for a couple of weeks myself before taking Yoko to the pet store. As soon as I found out about what Yoko said to her grandma, it was enough for me).

We all said something to "Chiro" (mostly apologies, and I thanked "Chiro" for the lesson it gave to us), and then spent a day there, playing with turtles.

Yoko still prays for "Chiro" every night before she goes to bed, and I pray for my girls.

Goodbye my best friend, my best teacher, my first dog, the dog that started it all. It's ALL because of you. Jane left us last night in the comfort of home laying on her favourite blanky, we cuddled her, petted her and told her how much she was loved until she fell asleep peacefully in our arms. We love you Jane, you fought a good fight for 1.5 years - you told CHF where to go, you amazed all of us with your will to live, you had True Grit. Thank you to our family, friends and our wonderful team of Vets and Techs for all of your support, she knew she was loved. ATCHC Silver "Rowdy Jane" - May 11, 1999 - March 6, 2012

“It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.” Mark Twain

Because of Jane, I have an obsession with all things dog - I do not like to fail, and it was NOT an option to give up on her. She is the reason I love to teach other people and dogs - if I can do what I've done with Jane - ANYTHING is possible, you just have to want it bad enough. She is the reason I have this blog, she is the reason I have an SUV, she is the reason I have Kaleb and Gyp, she is also the reason I have white sheets on my bed and an obsession with getting rid of those damn little white doghairs.

My good friend Ben sadly passed away last Sunday. He brought me to Rogue Bricks back then and was very supportive in my early days, gave me tips and whenever we met at an exhibition, we could have chatted for hours. Thank you for everything Ben, I will always think of you!

Time to say goodbye to 2014

with a short review in pictures and words:

It was a wild and colourful year with a trip to South-Africa in the beginning and a visit to Zambia in the end, a brief visit to Amsterdam and a lot of flowers in between.

Personally the worst incident of this year was that our cat Molly went across the rainbow bridge in January. But lovely Smilla is doing a great job as her "successor".

Thank you to my friends, contacts and all other users here in Flickr-Land for sedulously supporting my work with views, comments, invites and faves throughout the whole year.

Thank you for your friendship and all your excellent photos, which are a source of inspiration and great pleasure for me every single day.

So we should look forward to new photo opportunities, new views, marvellous colours and a hopefully healthy and peaceful

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2015 for us all !!

PROST Neujahr !
