I dug this image out and worked on it a bit. It was taken a few years ago with my friend from California, Matt Granz. He was in the area with his family and gave me a call and we decided to meet and go do a shoot. I suggested Ohiopyle State Park in PA.
We eventually went on a hike to Jonathan Run falls, upper and lower. We had had some rain that week and the run was flowing well.. This is a shot of the upper falls which I like better of the two. Both are beautiful in their own right. The image had a 1/3 second exposure which is long for my preference. Usually like a 1/6 or 1/8th with this kinda flow but it worked. The hike down Jonathan Run is awesome especially in the Spring with the native wildflowers. Along the trail there were two wooden bridges that crossed the stream at different distances along the trail. When Matt and I went they were knocked down about a month earlier by a flash flood. So we got wet and walked across the run in both places. A few months ago my buddy Jim Fotia and I went to check it out and the bridges were still down. PA state funding I guess huh? Anyway, check them both out if ya have a chance. Beautiful. Sugar Run Falls is another one close by to these two.

Been a great long extended summer, poring over maps walking the hills and generally on a mission.

Good to hear from you. Of all my contacts of flickr, I have only a handful whom I value, so they are rather conspicuous when they are absent! I am sorry to hear that you are a bit under the weather - but you know, it happens to all of us... At times like that, flickr becomes inconsequential, somehow. I have been through a phase recently where I found the whole thing banal and more than a little insincere.
But then I also have to say that I have found nice people like you with integrity and honesty and more than a huge talent, and for that I am grateful and feel blessed. So I hope that you will not be absent for too long and will once again share your life-journey and wisdom with us.
Keep the heart up - we can only come to the dawn through the shadows...

Bless you for this Sandra . . . like springs of water in a waterless country it is to me. I'm very sorry for not keeping in touch with you and like you say, a handful of other lovely people too. The fault is mine, no one else's, neither is it flickr's, though I too have felt similarly about it as you.
If I could think straight and positively all the time I would be sending cheques to flickr for connecting me to such wonderful personalities and talent of which you are a prime example.
I WILL post a new poem/pic and with your permission post your lovely email with it, together with a big, heartfelt thank you from me to you.

P.S. I'm up to my armpits in work - Flickr is my escape from what I call "Eating elephants." I'm blessed with being paid to draw all day long, but I have to create 30 - 60 drawings a day for 8 - 16 hrs per (you can throw a 36 hr. marathon in there once every couple of months). Nice to escape to the creative network and be dumbfounded by the talent floating all around the world. Cheers!

I kept putting off doing my 365 and when it got dark, I figured I better go do something. I took my flash out with me and instead of dragging my light stand out as well, I set the flash on a deck post. I secured it with a strip of duct tape- so it wouldn't fall while I was walking back and forth to set up my camera and tripod. And it worked!
I kept the two best shots of the dozen or so I took. It was windy, so I had a bunch of shots where the bubbles were blown completely away before the flash fired.
Alarm w Małopolsce. Dwukrotnie przez 3 minuty nadawane były sygnały dźwiękowe – pierwszy: ostrzegający o zagrożeniu, drugi: o jego odwołaniu.
Zagrożenie związane było z naruszeniem przestrzeni powietrznej przez samolot, który został uprowadzony przez terrorystów.
Na szczęście – choć sygnały były nadawane rzeczywiście, to zdarzenie wywołane zostało na potrzeby ćwiczeń odbywających się pod kryptonimem RENEGADE.
To ogólnopolskie ćwiczenia prowadzone z wykorzystaniem systemów alarmowania ludności, odbywające się już od wielu lat, po to, by sprawdzićstopień przygotowania służb odpowiadających za bezpieczeństwo i podmiotów cywilnych do prowadzenia działań związanych z prowadzeniem akcji poszukiwawczo-ratowniczych oraz przeciwdziałania atakom terrorystycznym na terytorium Polski.
Częścią ćwiczeń jest prowadzona w wielu regionach Polski próba systemu powszechnego alarmowania i ostrzegania ludności przed zagrożeniami.
Zakres ćwiczenia obejmuje prowadzenie akcji w różnych warunkach i o różnej skali zagrożenia. Tegoroczne ćwiczenia prowadzone w Małopolsce zakładały reagowanie w sytuacji uprowadzenia cywilnego statku powietrznego, który narusza przestrzeń powietrzną. Dyżurny Stanowiska Kierowania Komendy Wojewódzkiej Policji w Krakowie otrzymał informacje, że nad obszarem województwa małopolskiego zlokalizowany został podejrzany samolot z niezidentyfikowanymi osobami na pokładzie, który naruszył rejon ograniczeń ruchu lotniczego. W tym przypadku występowało duże prawdopodobieństwo, że na pokładzie znajdują się podejrzane osoby oraz ładunki wybuchowe.
Samolot zostaje sprawnie przechwycony przez dwa wojskowe śmigłowce Sokół W-3, które zmuszają go do lądowania na lotnisku Aeroklubu Podhalańskiego w Łososinie Dolnej. W celu zabezpieczenia lotniska na miejsce natychmiast skierowane zostają patrole interwencyjne z Komendy Miejskiej Policji w Nowym Sączu, funkcjonariusze z Samodzielnego Pododdziału Antyterrorystycznego Policji w Krakowie w tym, policjanci Zespołu Minersko – Pirotechnicznego. Policjanci na miejsce docierają bardzo szybko, sprawnie zabezpieczają teren i ustawiają blokady na drodze krajowej k-75. W pełni przygotowani do działania oczekują na zakończenie akcji wojskowych śmigłowców, które fachowo sprowadzają uprowadzony samolot na ziemię.
Po wylądowaniu do działania przystępuje Samodzielny Pododdział Antyterrorystyczny Policji z Krakowa, który zatrzymuje czterech mężczyzn, którzy lecieli tym samolotem. Następnie policjanci z Zespołu Minersko Pirotechnicznego przy użyciu specjalistycznego sprzętu zabezpieczają ładunek wybuchowy znajdujący się na pokładzie. Do akcji wkraczają także strażacy z Państwowej Straży Pożarnej z Nowego Sącza, którzy neutralizują substancje chemiczną znajdującą się na pokładzie zmuszonego do lądowania samolotu .
W obliczu wyzwania jakim są zbliżające się Światowe Dniami Młodzieży, przeprowadzone ćwiczenia nabierają szczególnej wartości. Priorytetem dla Policji i pozostałych służb podczas tego szczególnego okresu jest zapewnienie zarówno pielgrzymom jak i okolicznym mieszkańcom bezpieczeństwa i reagowanie na każde potencjalne zagrożenie. Tym razem służby poprawiały skuteczność działania w razie wystąpienia zagrożenia potencjalnym zamachem terrorystycznym przy wykorzystaniu małego samolotu cywilnego.
W ćwiczeniach wzięło udział ponad 50 policjantów KWP w Krakowie i KMP w Nowym Sączu, którzy współpracowali z przedstawicielami Dowództwa Operacyjnego Rodzajów Sił Zbrojnych – Szefostwa Obrony Powietrznej oraz strażakami Komendy Miejskiej Państwowej Straży Pożarnej w Nowym Sączu.
Działania zostały zainicjowane w ramach zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa publicznego na terenie Małopolski w sytuacji wystąpienia aktów terroryzmu, a także doskonalenia umiejętności organizacji działań oraz efektywnego współdziałania wszystkich służb.

It was really quite the perfect day to go do this. It was sunny, and slightly chilly. The sun kept us warm, but the slight breeze & lower temperatures kept us from getting too warm. Perfect, perfect weather. And apparently they just did a walk in rain & snow in WI recently, so I'm sure it was a nice change!

The Second annual T4G Go Do! Football Classic - 2013, Toronto - was a battle that will not be forgotten any time soon, no matter how hard we try.
The North Carolina Tar Heels, a power five program out of the Atlantic Coast Conference, dealt Old Dominion its first home defeat since November 2015. But in the loss, ODU gained a new starting quarterback.
True freshman Steven Williams, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson H.S. in Washington, D.C., replaced starting quarterback Jordan Hoy and backup QB Blake LaRussa in the 53-23 loss.
"When you don't have a first down in the first quarter and you have no energy on the sideline because the players feel it, you have to make the move," ODU head football coach Bobby Wilder explained. "I didn't go into this game thinking [Williams] would play."
Seeing his first action, the 17 year old Williams completed 9-of-20 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw an interception and lost a fumble. Williams added 34 rushing yards on seven attempts.
"We haven't developed an identity on offense," Wilder noted. "Stevie Williams today gave us an identity. Steven Williams is the quarterback of the Old Dominion football team moving forward."
"They just said 'let's go," Williams explained of how he learned he was about to receive his first college playing time. "My teammates were all behind me. I just had to go do my job and we'll be fine."
Old Dominion outscored North Carolina (1-2), 16-14, in the second half, after trailing the Tar Heels, 39-7, at the half.
Prior to the game, ODU learned All-Conference USA running back Ray Lawry, the program's all-time leading rusher, has a torn hamstring. Head coach Bobby Wilder reveals the injury could keep Lawry sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Następnie policjanci z Zespołu Minersko Pirotechnicznego przy użyciu specjalistycznego sprzętu zabezpieczają ładunek wybuchowy znajdujący się na pokładzie. Do akcji wkraczają także strażacy z Państwowej Straży Pożarnej z Nowego Sącza, którzy neutralizują substancje chemiczną znajdującą się na pokładzie zmuszonego do lądowania samolotu .
W obliczu wyzwania jakim są zbliżające się Światowe Dniami Młodzieży, przeprowadzone ćwiczenia nabierają szczególnej wartości. Priorytetem dla Policji i pozostałych służb podczas tego szczególnego okresu jest zapewnienie zarówno pielgrzymom jak i okolicznym mieszkańcom bezpieczeństwa i reagowanie na każde potencjalne zagrożenie. Tym razem służby poprawiały skuteczność działania w razie wystąpienia zagrożenia potencjalnym zamachem terrorystycznym przy wykorzystaniu małego samolotu cywilnego.
W ćwiczeniach wzięło udział ponad 50 policjantów KWP w Krakowie i KMP w Nowym Sączu, którzy współpracowali z przedstawicielami Dowództwa Operacyjnego Rodzajów Sił Zbrojnych – Szefostwa Obrony Powietrznej oraz strażakami Komendy Miejskiej Państwowej Straży Pożarnej w Nowym Sączu.
Działania zostały zainicjowane w ramach zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa publicznego na terenie Małopolski w sytuacji wystąpienia aktów terroryzmu, a także doskonalenia umiejętności organizacji działań oraz efektywnego współdziałania wszystkich służb.

I kept putting off doing my 365 and when it got dark, I figured I better go do something. I took my flash out with me and instead of dragging my light stand out as well, I set the flash on a deck post. I secured it with a strip of duct tape- so it wouldn't fall while I was walking back and forth to set up my camera and tripod. And it worked!
I kept the two best shots of the dozen or so I took. It was windy, so I had a bunch of shots where the bubbles were blown completely away before the flash fired.
This is the shot I chose for my 365 submission because I liked the "minimalist" look to it, with the burst bubble and the two-stuck-together bubbles floating away.

Mercury drops off Slade and drives away. Slade looks around noticing the other vehicles. Slade walks towards the door and Michael steps out in front of the door.
Michael: (the pianist of DW)*in a lowered voice* You shouldn't be here, Seth.
Slade: I told you not to call me by that name, Michael.
Michael: turn around and leave now.
Leon: (the bassist of DW) *walks up and pushes Michael out of the way* You didn't get the memo?
Slade: What memo?
Leon: You're out of the band, and the gang is under my control.
Michael: *stands back up* You didn't have to-
Leon: *interrupting Michael* Do me a favor and go get Seth here, his parting gifts.
Michael: *nods and goes inside shooting a sad glance at Slade, mouthing "I'm sorry"*
Slade: This is my fucking band and I starting the gang. you can't kick me out!
Leon: Newsflash, you were in prison for a year. You lost your right to claim that. Bumblebee Records don't want to associate with you. In order for the band to keep around, we had to kick you out.
Michael: *walks back out holding a small box, and rest of the members* I have the gifts.
Leon: Thank you, Michael.
Luxdoc: (the guitarist of DW) ...
Charlie: (the drummer of DW) *holding a CD* ...
Leon: As a parting gift we offer you a knife. *looks at Michael*
Michael: *hands the box to Slade*
Slade: *reluctantly takes the box, placing it in his blazer pocket*
Leon: A CD of our newest album. *looks at Charlie*
Charlie: *hands Slade the CD* The disc is autographed by all of us.
Slade: *looks at the cd and album case*
Leon: And as or the last parting gift, the DW van. *looks at Luxdoc*
Luxdoc: *reaches into pocket tossing a set of keys to Slade*
Slade: *catches the keys* So that's it, our friendship means nothing?
Charlie, Luxdoc, and Michael look at the ground saying nothing. Leon is looking impatient.
Leon: It's because of our friendship that I give you the van, but you must paint over it.
Slade: *walks over to the driver's side and looks at everyone* You know, it was a mistake hiring you, Leon. I will make you pay. *gets in the van starting it up, and driving away*
Leon: Time to go do our last tour. Not sure why our last set is to open for Gravitas in England, but we got to do it.
Charlie: how are we going to transport my drumkit and the amps?
Leon: my truck has the room for it, and Michal can drive his guitar and my bass in his trunk.
Ways down the road Slade stops at a red light. Mercury pulls up motioning him to follow. Slade nods and follows Mercury to an abandoned mechanic shop, where Simon is sitting in his car. Mercury, Slade, and Simon get out of their vehicles.
Slade: What's this about.
Simon: Welcome to Nightelligence.
Slade: What?
Mercury: Our boss has decided to hire you while you were in prison.
Simon: He will explain more to you, but go to this address. *hands Slade a piece of paper*
Slade takes the piece of paper and notices Mercury getting into his car and driving off. Simon does the same. He looks at the paper. He drives off and comes across Officer Morgan. He stops still pissed at Leon, he pulls out the knife and stabs the officer. He realizes what he did and leaves the knife behind peeling out from the scene. He continues to the address for his meeting with the leader of Nightelligence.

The North Carolina Tar Heels, a power five program out of the Atlantic Coast Conference, dealt Old Dominion its first home defeat since November 2015. But in the loss, ODU gained a new starting quarterback.
True freshman Steven Williams, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson H.S. in Washington, D.C., replaced starting quarterback Jordan Hoy and backup QB Blake LaRussa in the 53-23 loss.
"When you don't have a first down in the first quarter and you have no energy on the sideline because the players feel it, you have to make the move," ODU head football coach Bobby Wilder explained. "I didn't go into this game thinking [Williams] would play."
Seeing his first action, the 17 year old Williams completed 9-of-20 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw an interception and lost a fumble. Williams added 34 rushing yards on seven attempts.
"We haven't developed an identity on offense," Wilder noted. "Stevie Williams today gave us an identity. Steven Williams is the quarterback of the Old Dominion football team moving forward."
"They just said 'let's go," Williams explained of how he learned he was about to receive his first college playing time. "My teammates were all behind me. I just had to go do my job and we'll be fine."
Old Dominion outscored North Carolina (1-2), 16-14, in the second half, after trailing the Tar Heels, 39-7, at the half.
Prior to the game, ODU learned All-Conference USA running back Ray Lawry, the program's all-time leading rusher, has a torn hamstring. Head coach Bobby Wilder reveals the injury could keep Lawry sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Sie vermitteln zudem einen Eindruck davon, was mit diesem Ort in der Abwesenheit eines Hauses geschehen würde: schnell ergreift die Pflanzenwelt Besitz von der leeren Fläche.
Brachflächen sind temporäre Orte. Eine Brache braucht immer ein „davor“ und ein „danach“. Ein Haus, das an diesem Ort stand und einen hypothetischen Nutzwert. Genauso verhält es sich mit dem Warten. Warten für sich existiert nicht. Man wartet auf etwas, aber man kann nicht einfach NUR warten ohne auf ETWAS zu warten. Eine Brache kann somit als Metapher für das Warten erachtet werden. Eine Brache ist ein wartender Ort.
Oft genügt es seinen Blickwinkel zu ändern, um das Schöne im
Unangenehmen zu sehen.

Going to go do a shoot on Friday. I can't stand not going out and doing something day after day, it's way too boring. I've been reading Seneca's letters to his friend Lucius and have really become addicted to the Stoic way of life. He quotes Epicurus a lot and his idea's just make sense. Seneca's that is, I mean Epicurus makes sense too but I kinda love Seneca. It always amazes me that he still has a impact in the word after 2000 years of not being in it. I guess that's true immortality.

Is it waiting to gush forward like an overrun river, soaking the icy sandbags of our defenses, till finally devouring us in it's abandonment... all boundaries broken, all senses aroused... the heart pounding and eyes wild, hands and arms and feet all one part of one animal, nose to the wind, soul tingling with the vibration of energy flowing.
No longer waiting. No longer wondering.
It is too late. We have become the flood.
