Web Series Tied to ‘Blade Runner’ Is In the Works
"... On Thursday the film’s director, Ridley Scott, announced that a new division of his commercials company, RSA Films, was working on a video series called “Purefold.” The series of linked 5- to 10-minute shorts, aimed first at the Web and then perhaps television, will be set at a point in time before 2019, when the Harrison Ford movie takes place in a dystopian Los Angeles. Mr. Scott, his brother Tony and his son Luke are developing the project in conjunction with the independent studio Ag8, which is run by one of the creators of “Where are the Joneses?” a British Web sitcom that solicited storyline suggestions from the audience. Similarly, “Purefold” will harvest story input from its viewers, in conjunction with the social media site FriendFeed." - Paul Buchheit via Bookmarklet ..."
After reading the article, Web Series Tied to ‘Blade Runner’ Is In the Works by Brad Stone in the New York Times, I commented:
"... “Purefold” will harvest story input from its viewers, in conjunction with the social media site FriendFeed ..." ~ Is this a sub? ~ paulgraham.com/submarine.html ..."
and David Bausola replied:
"... Peter, not sure what you mean; no PR agency is involved and no press release was, erm, released - we've just explained the basics to the project to 2 reporters. We have also talked to many people over the past few months about what we aim to acheive. We'll be blogging about the past 9 months development and the forthcoming outputs soon. PR may be used to brief in more 'mainstream' magazines in due course. (And glad to see a Paul Graham essay used as referenced - I'm a big fan) ..."
and I commented:
"... Hi David, I was just noting that Paul B. posted without naming FF is working with this idea & Purefold. What information is *not included* is just as important as what *is included*. A quick acknowledgment from the boss might have made this fact clear. The Sub reference comes from *quietly* slipping in info into the conversation w/o explicitly stating why. That's all. Aside from that I'll be interested to see what comes out of this idea & creative commons, exciting stuff. ps: after reading the sub in 2007OCT22 I caught the New York Times out ~ www.flickr.com/photos/bootload/1685662827/ ..."
some time later
"... Hey Peter, I see. We haven't explained the novel way of how we're using FriendFeed yet, there's a few concepts we need to explain before we do. I've had unloaded all the project details immediately there would have been mass confusion on how to use/participate Purefold. - David Bausola ...
and I replied.
"... We haven't explained the novel way of how we're using FriendFeed yet, there's a few concepts we need to explain before we do ..." Write it up: how Purefold & Friendfeed want the process to work. When you do post it somewhere prominent (Purefold discussions?). Should make interesting reading. Never assume a lack of information will somehow make things clearer. I'll take the info-glut every time. ..."

After a truly massive glut of new licensed castings which appeared in the Realtoy range in the early years of the Millennium it appears they must have massively overstretched themselves as a much more modest amount of new castings have been released since. One of these earlier models which continue to earn its keep is the Ford Explorer which although shows signs of cost cutting is still an impressive budget diecast with its crisp and chunky styling and painted features. Those wheels may not be the best design but its a casting which wouldn't disgrace itself in the modern MBX line up. This blue and white Country Sheriff version was one of many picked up from Tesco back in March 2016. Mint and boxed.

The lunge is an excellent lower body exercise that will strengthen your…
butt (glutes)
quads
This exercise is great for men and women looking to strengthen their upper legs and butt. Women especially love this exercise as it helps to get the toned look on your butt and thighs.
The exercise can be performed with a barbell, dumbbells, kettlebells or even with no added weight. In this instructional we focus solely on the barbell lunge.
Moving on along this very varied day now, in which we return to the glut of the First York fleet - the humble B7RLE. Left unfettered by the withdrawals around it, it still plods along, some repainted, some still in Olympia. This particular one, though, remains special. No, not for its contactless branding here, but for the fact that this bus now carries 'Rider York' heritage livery, one of two buses in the York-West Yorkshire fleet (ah, see what I did there?) that carry Rider Group heritage liveries. I won't bore you with my whining about the other one.
Pictured when still operating in 'Olympia' livery in May 2018, First York's 69374, a 2008 Volvo B7RLE Wright Eclipse Urban delivered new for the York Park & Ride, is seen here at the four-way junction leading to the Pavement on a 6 to the University of York.

7/50 in the "Fifty things in 2009" challenge
Recipe from Nigella Lawson's How to be a domestic goddess
125g unsalted butter
100g dark chocolate broken into pieces
300g good, thin-cut marmalade
150g caster sugar
pinch of salt
2 large eggs, beaten
150g self-raising flour
20cm springform tin, buttered and floured
Preheat the oven to 180C, Gas mark 4.
Put the butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan and put over a low heat to melt. When it's nearly completely melted stir in the chocolate. Leave for a moment to begin softening then take the pan off the heat and stir with a wooden spoon until the butter and chocolate are smooth and melted. Now add the marmalade, sugar, salt and eggs. Stir with your wooden spoon and when all is pretty much amalgamated, beat in the flour bit by bit. Put into your prepared tin and bake for about 50 minutes or until a cake-tester or skewer comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a rack for 10 minutes before turning out.
Serves 6.
Note - I actually had this in the oven for 1h 10m at the correct temperature measured with an oven thermometer and it collapsed in the middle when it came out. It's a very heavy damp cake, I think this is fairly expected!
The first time I ate zucchini was when I visited my grandparents, as a kid. They were prolific gardeners with a glut of these easy growing squash. I was served a warm bowl of minestrone with large translucent chunks of zucchini and declared myself, forever, not a fan. Thus began something like 25 years of zucchini disdain.
But you know what? Zucchini is cheap, dirt cheap and available in abundance and I’m not good at holding grudges, so after a bit of experimenting over the past few years, I’ve discovered that I still think zucchini is a miserable addition to soups but I’ve come to appreciate its appeal for other dishes, namely that it batters up and fries into a delightful treat.
So, with about a dozen small baby zucchinis in the fridge and a craving for something breaded, I thought I’d make up a batch of zucchini chips similar to these
www.flickr.com/photos/missmarnie/3907441605/
Alas, I find myself sans eggs. Well, that’s not true, I have eggs, but they are way past retirement age and I’ve decided to put them out to pasture. And by pasture, I mean the garbage.
So, while I’m ditching the eggs I figured I’d also give baking the chips a try. The modified recipe goes something like this:
Baked Eggless Zucchini Chips
2-3 baby zucchinis sliced as thin as you can manage
Juice of 1 lime (optional)
Olive oil
1/4 c of flour
1/4 c of breadcrumbs (I like panko)
2 tbs grated parmesan (note to make these vegan, just leave out the parm)
1 tbs dried oregano
Salt and pepper to preference
Preheat oven to 475 F
Zucchini has a lot of moisture so slicing the zucchini super thin allows that water to evaporate and the chips to get crunchier. My thinner slicers were exponentially yummier than my thicker slices. Slicing with a food processor or mandolin is probably a good idea if you can be bothered, which I can’t.
Mix the lime juice (if you want it) and olive oil in a bowl and throw your zucchini slices in for a quick marinade.
In a large zip top bag, mix all other ingredients. Place slices into bag (I broke them up into three batches for ease of coating) and coat all sides. Lay out in a single layer on a cookie sheet being sure to sprinkle on a little more coating for any sides that are looking a little too nude.
Once all the slices are evenly coated and laid out on the pan, drizzle everything with more olive oil and cook for 5-7 mins until you see some browning.
Flip and add a wee bit more oil to any spot that has white raw flour spots instead of a translucent or brown coating and cook for another 5-7 mins.
If desired, you can give everything a last little browning under the broiler, but be careful not to burn them.
Served with lemon dill chicken salad wraps.

Mirit Ben Nun: Shortness of breath
'Shortness of breath' is not only a sign of physical weakness, it is a metaphor for a mental state of strong desire that knows no repletion; more and more, an unbearable glut, without repose. Mirit Ben Nun's type of work on the other hand requires an abundance of patience. This is a Sisyphean work (requiring hard labor) of marking lines and dots, filling every empty millimeter with brilliant blots. Therefore we are facing a paradox or a logical conflict. A patient and effortful work that stems from an urgent need to cover and fill, to adorn and coat. Her craft of layering reaches a state of a continuous ceremonial ritual.
This ritual digests every object into itself - useful or discarded -- available and ordinary or rare and exceptional -- they submit and devote to the overlay work. Mirit BN gathers scrap off the streets -- cardboard rolls of fabric, assortments of wooden boards and pieces, plates and planks -- and constructs a new link, her own syntax, which she alone is fully responsible for. The new combination -- a type of a sculptural construction -- goes through a process of patching by the act of painting.
In fact Mirit regards her three dimensional objects as a platform for painting, with a uniform continuity, even if it has obstacles, mounds and valleys. These objects beg her to paint, to lay down colors, to set in motion an intricate weave of abstract patterns that at times finds itself wandering the contours of human images and sometimes -- not. In those cases what is left is the monotonous activity of running the patterns, inch by inch, till their absolute coverage, till a short and passing instant of respite and than on again to a new onset.
Next to this assembly of garbage and it's recycling into 'painted sculptures' Mirit offers a surprising reunion between her illustrated objects and so called cheap African sculpture; popular artifacts or articles that are classified in the standard culture as 'primitive'.
This combination emphasizes the difference between her individualistic performance and the collective creation which is translated into cultural clichés. The wood carved image creates a moment of peace within the crowded bustle; an introverted image, without repetitiveness and reverberation. This meeting of strangers testifies that Mirit' work could not be labeled under the ´outsiders art´ category. She is a one woman school who is compelled to do the art work she picked out to perform. Therefore she isn't creating ´an image´ such as the carved wooden statues, but she produces breathless ´emotional jam' whose highest values are color, motion, beauty and plenitude. May it never lack, neither diluted, nor dull for even an instant
