This is one of three plaques on a house in Edam. I think they were part of a series on the seven liberal arts. This would be geometry, the other two grammer (reading Latin) and astronomy.

This project was an underground space to house a Celestial globe which mapped the stars. The building was designed as a long corridor perforated with a map of the night sky which culminated in the globe space. Space was also made for an astronomer to study the globe.

A 3D looking globe and a cool reflection.

I had an idea for today's photo that involved photographing a globe. Since I didn't have a globe, I went out to Goodwill and found this awesome Nova Rico globe lamp that would have been perfect for the shot I had in mind. I couldn't quite get it right, so I will have to try again another time - but this is an outtake from my failed attempt.

Taken at the Globe Theatre.

The Globe was opened to the public in 1997, after a long campaign by actor Sam Wanamaker (1919-93) to have it created. The theatre reproduces the original (built 1599, burnt down 1613, rebuilt in 1614 and finally demolished 1644). The reproduction aims to reflect the theatre's first incarnation.

Originally, when I took the picture of the globe, I didn't plan on doing anything like this. But, Ashley fell asleep for four hours, so I needed something to do. When I cut out the globe, the first time I tried it, it was a perfect circle. But, I thought it looked weird. I wanted it to have that effect like a little kid cut it out with scissors. So, this is what it turned out to be.

Oh, and the reason I had to upload it today instead of yesterday, is because Ashley's internet was down.

On Angela Briggs' globe, empty water bottles are transformed into figures that represent the cultural diversity of Los Angeles. The use of plastic bags as texture in the ocean illustrates waves dancing through a clean body of water. The water drops represent safe drinking water, which are also viewing stations to allow you to see inside the globe. The images inside represent Los Angeles rising fresh and young by using recycled materials, as the Phoenix rises from its own ashes.

October 29, 2017. This globe is on display in the Air Canada lounge in Toronto. I had planned to photograph some airplanes but I hadn't realized how much our view of the outside would be obscured. Anyhow. Woke up at 4:00 a.m. this morning, with a transfer in Toronto, and then I'll spend all day and all night on the airplane.
