Bitter Sweet..
Clawhammer spicy ginger root mints are a bit of a taste sensation. they are at first minty then a little bitter from the gingerroot. It took a while to get used to the taste and now i quite like it. but I must say I love the lttle tin they come in. seems a shame to throw the tin out when you are done.so I thought at the very least i could use it for an impromptu photo shoot. LOL.
This was my first attempt at a manual stacked focus in a long time. I took seven shots with different focus positions trying to avoid too much focus breathing with the lens. I had a 50mm 1.4 connected to a 20mm extension tube mounted to my tripod. I then took it into photoshop and manually deleted and aligned the seven shots. I know i could do this using the program but prefer to have more control over the end result.

The big Sunday Market in Kochi Japan, southeast Shikoku Island, is a good place to see local seafood and produce. The woman at this stand was selling the largest ginger root I've ever seen; she also had yuzu fruit (Citrus junos) and fruit juice, grown locally. Yuzu's flavour is between grapefruit and orange. It is an ingredient of ponzu sauce and is also used as a fragrance in cosmetics and in refreshing yuzu baths, especially on the winter solstice, a custom dating back to the early 18th C.

DESCRIPTION
Fresh ginger perks up a pumpkin pie, and a streusel layer adds crunch under a toasted marshmallow topping.
INGREDIENTS
Crust
1 Pillsbury® refrigerated pie crust (from 15-oz box), softened as directed on box
Streusel
1/2 cup crushed gingersnap cookies (9 cookies)
1/4 cup chopped pecans
2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
Filling
1 can (15 oz) pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)
1 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
2 teaspoons grated fresh gingerroot
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, slightly beaten
Topping
2 to 2 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows
DIRECTIONS
1. Heat oven to 425°F. Place cookie sheet on middle oven rack. Unroll pie crust in 9-inch glass pie plate as directed on box for One-Crust Filled Pie. In small bowl, mix streusel ingredients. Sprinkle streusel in crust-lined pie plate.
2. In large bowl, mix filling ingredients. Pour into pie crust on top of streusel. Place pie plate on cookie sheet in oven. Bake 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F. Bake 35 to 45 minutes longer or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely on cooling rack, about 3 hours.
3. Just before serving, set oven control to broil. Spread marshmallows evenly over top of pie, completely covering filling. Broil pie with top about 5 inches from heat about 30 seconds, watching carefully, until marshmallows are lightly browned. Marshmallows will brown quickly. Cover and refrigerate any remaining pie.
High Altitude (3500-6500 ft): Do not use cookie sheet. In step 2, for second bake time, cover edge of crust with strips of foil to prevent excess browning, and bake 35 to 40 minutes. Remove foil before step 3.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a flowering plant whose rhizome, ginger root or simply ginger, is widely used as a spice or a folk medicine.[2]
It is a herbaceous perennial which grows annual pseudostems (false stems made of the rolled bases of leaves) about a meter tall bearing narrow leaf blades. The inflorescences bear pale yellow with purple flowers and arise directly from the rhizome on separate shoots.[3] Ginger is in the family Zingiberaceae, to which also belong turmeric (Curcuma longa), cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum), and galangal. Ginger originated in the tropical rainforests from the Indian subcontinent to Southern Asia where ginger plants show considerable genetic variation.[4] As one of the first spices exported from the Orient, ginger arrived in Europe during the spice trade, and was used by ancient Greeks and Romans.[5] The distantly related dicots in the genus Asarum are commonly called wild ginger because of their similar taste.
Uses :Ginger produces a hot, fragrant kitchen spice.[5] Young ginger rhizomes are juicy and fleshy with a mild taste. They are often pickled in vinegar or sherry as a snack or cooked as an ingredient in many dishes. They can be steeped in boiling water to make ginger herb tea, to which honey may be added. Ginger can be made into candy or ginger wine.
Mature ginger rhizomes are fibrous and nearly dry. The juice from ginger roots is often used as a seasoning in Indian recipes and is a common ingredient of Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, and many South Asian cuisines for flavoring dishes such as seafood, meat, and vegetarian dishes.
Fresh ginger can be substituted for ground ginger at a ratio of six to one, although the flavors of fresh and dried ginger are somewhat different. Powdered dry ginger root is typically used as a flavoring for recipes such as gingerbread, cookies, crackers and cakes, ginger ale, and ginger beer. Candied ginger, or crystallized ginger, is the root cooked in sugar until soft, and is a type of confectionery. Fresh ginger may be peeled before eating. For longer-term storage, the ginger can be placed in a plastic bag and refrigerated or frozen.

DIRECTIONS:
1. Spray 4- to 5-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. In cooker, mix carrots, onions, broth and salt.
2. Cover; cook on Low heat setting 8 to 10 hours.
3. Pour 4 cups of the soup mixture to blender; add half each of the whipping cream, orange juice, brown sugar, gingerroot and pepper. Cover and blend until smooth; return to cooker. Blend remaining soup mixture with remaining half of ingredients; return to cooker.
4. Increase heat setting to High. Cover; cook 15 to 20 minutes longer or until hot. Garnish individual servings with an orange quarter and parsley.

Pressing "L" is a good idea
So that little thing flying up there, I made that. For my 3D fundamentals in art class last semester we had to bring in an organic form (basically a fruit or vegetable) then make it out of clay, abstract it, then carve it out of plaster. I wanted to pick something completely random and brought a ginger root, which is already probably the most abstract thing ever. Everyone else's plaster was more or less recognizable as a lemon or a squash or what ever. Not mine. Ginger root is probably the most random thing ever.
Anyway I wanted to do a levetation with my butterfly net chasing after a "dream." I was trying to think of something relatively small and abstract to represent the "dream" and decided to use my ginger root. I also wanted it to be kind of clouded so I grabbed some flour for the heck of it. Throwing flour into the wind is lots of fun and you can make awesome looking clouds! Unfortunatley in the location where i had shot everything else the camera was down wind so it was getting floury so I had to move a bit which is why the sky is all wonky. I fixed it the best I had the patience for. I am pleased.

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup sesame seed
1/4 cup LAND O LAKES® Butter, softened
1/2 cup soy sauce, room temperature
2 teaspoons freshly grated gingerroot
1 can (11 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated original breadsticks (12 breadsticks)
2 1/2 cups cubed cooked chicken
2 1/2 cups broccoli slaw or shredded broccoli
1 cup chopped cucumber
3/4 cup julienne carrots (from 10-oz bag)
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
1/4 cup Fisher® Cashews, Halves and Pieces, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup Crisco® Pure Olive Oil
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1/2 to 1 teaspoon sesame oil
3 tablespoons sugar
DIRECTIONS
1. In 10-inch skillet, cook sesame seed over medium-high heat 3 to 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until lightly toasted. Remove from skillet to plate to cool.
2. Heat oven to 375°F. In small bowl, beat butter, 1 tablespoon of the soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of the gingerroot and 2 tablespoons of the sesame seed with electric mixer on low speed until blended. Carefully unroll dough into 2 rectangles. On each of 2 ungreased cookie sheets with sides, place 1 rectangle; press into 8x6-inch rectangle. Spread with butter mixture. Using pizza cutter, cut each rectangle lengthwise into 6 breadsticks, then cut each breadstick crosswise into 8 pieces.
3. Bake 8 to 12 minutes, rotating cookie sheets halfway through baking, until crisp. Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack; cool.
4. Meanwhile, in large bowl, toss chicken, broccoli slaw, cucumber, carrots, cilantro, onion and cashews. In container with tight-fitting lid, shake olive oil, vinegar, sesame oil, sugar and remaining soy sauce, gingerroot and sesame seed until well blended. Just before serving, pour dressing over chicken mixture; toss to coat. Add croutons; stir lightly.

Recipe:
20 Won ton skins (recipe a previous post)
11/2 cups firm tofu, cubed
3 scallions, sliced, greens included
1 cup chopped kale
6 asparagus spears, sliced
2 carrots, sliced
1 Thai chili, minced
Tsire spice:
1/2 tsp clove, 1/2 cinnamon, 1 tsp nutmeg, 1 tbsp peanut butter, 2 tbsp sesame oil, 2 tsp gingerroot, salt, pepper
Mix together scallions, Tsire spice. Marinade the tofu cubes several hours. Lay out wonton skins on floured surface. Place tofu cubes in center of won ton skin, fold and seal. Cover and reserve or boil in hot water until they float to the top, remove , cool and refrigerate. (you can also freeze then boil).
Saute the asparagus, carrots, and kale with a little sesame oil.
Dressing:
4 tbsp cilantro
Pinch red chili flakes
6 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tsp tamari
4 tbsp sesame oil
1 tsp raw sugar
2 tsp peanut butter
2 tsp peanuts (optional)
Pulse and puree together.
Pour dressing over the wontons and veggies. Refrigerate several hours then serve room temperature or heat together.
Serves 4.
