I thought I’d post this as a reminder of what life should be like in one’s twilight years…alas, as I write this I’m back in the UK, staring through the window at the drizzling rain and 14º c…it’s May ffs, June is a fortnight away…pass me a gin and tonic to drown my sorrows ☹️

After the trek down to the bay we realised we'd forgotten the Gin and Cider just wasn't going to cut it (it sounds too much like the beginning of a 999 special on 'the british coast')

Beech leaf gin, from Richard Mabey's book Food for Free:

"Pack an earthenware or glass jar about nine tenth full of young, clean leaves. Pour gin into the jar, pressing the leaves down all the time, until they are just covered. Leave to steep for about a fortnight in a dark place. Then strain off the gin, which will by now have caught the brilliant green of the leaves. To every pint of gin add about three-quarters of a pound of sugar (more if you like your liqueurs very syrupy) dissolved in half a pint of boiling water, and a dash of brandy. Mix well and bottle as soon as cold. The result is a thickish, sweet spirit, mild and slightly oily to taste, like sake, but devastating in its effects!"

Must be drunk within a few weeks of bottling or it goes off.... poor me. ;)

Gin is awesome isnt he?

Charco San Gines is a lagoon of natural sea water, situated right in the heart of Arrecife. The area has a lovely vibe, with old buildings and lot of fishing boats.

A little but staged, but I genuinely had the gin glass beside me when I thought I'd check in on this week's #FlickFriday theme. Ice was nearly gone by the time I got it set up. The fingerprints are good though!

I'm not on commission but will give a shout out to Wild Island Gin, based on the small island of Colonsay in the Southern Hebrides, the botanics for their gins are found on the island and the gins are just delicious. Their beer is also awesome!

not so long ago i posted a picture of sloes growing on the blackthorn bushes just a couple of minutes from the house...well this is a shot of those sloes and a few of their friends in a demijohn with a litre of gin and an equal measure of sugar...there are 2 of these in our kitchen right now being swirled around every day to mix it all up and already the gin is turning pink and the sugar has all melted away...we still have some left from 2002 which we found hidden in the pantry just the other day so this batch won't be drunk until at least the winter after next...mmmmmmm!!!

Start of the process... to be continued.

A litre of gin and I didn't take even a sip... I had some from the second bottle instead!

Those sloes look good large

February was so cold that I did not go out much. Coldest month of the last 100 years...global warming, really !

After my latest addiction to Sortilege(Maple syrup Whisky) I found this Gin. Gin originates on the northern frontier where the vast Canadian tundra meets icy seas(from web site)

This and the others that go with it were taken at the old abandoned cotton gin in downtown Prattville.

The purpose of this shot was absolutely not to drink a gin & tonic but to try something with the "pen tool" in photoshop. Of course you don't have to believe me. "It is a curious fact, and one to which no-one knows quite how much importance to attach, that something like 85 percent of all known worlds in the Galaxy, be they primitive or highly advanced, have invented a drink called jynnan tonyx, or gee-N'N-T'N-ix, or jinond-o-nicks, or any one of a thousand variations on this phonetic theme."

--Douglas Adams

That even Worthing, the scrapyard of the English clery, has its own gin that is sold every day from a van on the beach.

We stopped for some. Mrs Puckpics had some (I was driving), said it was good. More can be had from @worthinggin.

The small town of Prosper, TX is surrounded by urban sprawl and it's closing in on the quaint little downtown. The Cotton Gin Café is one of those remaining local places to get some home-cooked food. Eggs, chicken-fried steak, hashbrowns with biscuits and gravy.

Snowing (and it is lying too!) here tonight so we used snow instead of ice to make gin and tonics!
