The Bostwick Cotton Gin is a prominent, functioning historical landmark located in the small agricultural city of Bostwick, Georgia. Dating back to the era when "cotton was king," it stands as one of the very few operational, antique Lummus cotton gins left in the state that continues to process cotton during the harvest season.

In April 2026, the gin sustained major smoke, water, and electrical fire damage. However, the owners immediately moved forward with repairs to ensure the historic machine continues to run.

Abandoned cotton gin in Merkel, Texas, USA. I'm guessing the Murray piece of equipment was a baler used to bale the waste byproducts of cotton ginning. We still have lots of cotton growing in West Central Texas, but we also have a number of these old, abandoned gins as well.

This is not a barn that has a cotton gin. For all practical purposes, the entire building is a cotton gin.

After the trek down to the bay we realised we'd forgotten the Gin and Cider just wasn't going to cut it (it sounds too much like the beginning of a 999 special on 'the british coast')

Gin is awesome isnt he?

Beech leaf gin, from Richard Mabey's book Food for Free:

"Pack an earthenware or glass jar about nine tenth full of young, clean leaves. Pour gin into the jar, pressing the leaves down all the time, until they are just covered. Leave to steep for about a fortnight in a dark place. Then strain off the gin, which will by now have caught the brilliant green of the leaves. To every pint of gin add about three-quarters of a pound of sugar (more if you like your liqueurs very syrupy) dissolved in half a pint of boiling water, and a dash of brandy. Mix well and bottle as soon as cold. The result is a thickish, sweet spirit, mild and slightly oily to taste, like sake, but devastating in its effects!"

Must be drunk within a few weeks of bottling or it goes off.... poor me. ;)
