We're not huge fans of Halloween, my husband and I, but the kids feel a bit left out every year. I don't like taking them out trick or treating.
This year, I came up with a totally awesome idea of taking them on the Severn Valley Railway's Ghost Train. My husband is a train nut, so he wasn't going to complain. The kids got to dress up and do something Halloweeny, so they were thrilled. It was a huge success.
I am officially awesome ;)
Narrowly avoiding the cave in, the path takes your through Alabama's own cross gardens. In the distance you think you hear horse hooves.

Tja, het is altijd het proberen waard maar deze combi reed toch echt te hard voor de camera-instellingen. Toch vind ik het wel wat hebben - enkele bepalende elementen (station, loc en cargo) zijn best te herkennen - algemeen gezien - niet op nummer.
Enige studie, met dank aan Roland en Annie MG, levert dan op dat dit de RRF 17 is met de lange SPENO slijptrein zijnde de RR48-M5.
Ik ben tevreden ;-))
Ps de stationsklok is niet goed te lezen maar het was 22:04 :D

Yep - i know - train is travelling to fast for camera-settings - bad luck. But wait, some major elements in this foto can be easily detected - station (Putten), loc (RRF V100) and cargo (SPENO rail grinding machine) - so, nothing is missed albeit a bit vague.
Better though, with help of Roland and Annie MG i could determine that the loco is the RRF 17 and the SPENO rail grinding train is the RR48-M5 .

It is that time of the season again and the normally genteel Stanley Park miniature train is being transformed into a ghost train to start the Halloween season. The theme for 2010 is Alice in Nightmareland. You can follow the fairytale princess and witness how she combats her opponents through the dense forest inhibited by a fire dragon, zombies, voodoo deities, wicked witches, evil cards, butchers and body-snatchers. The Ghost Train runs from 6PM-10PM and tickets are available at 3PM in the afternoon. [Photos and video by Ray Van Eng] www.vancouver21.com

Most of the rough painting has been completed. Tim and Miss Ashley will go back over it with more detail. We are trying to restrict our color usage to 4 colors for the most part, to copy the look of the classic Luhrs halloween decoratons.
You can see some of the twists and turns our ride will take. Later, after the cars have circulated with no problems, the scenic crew will come in and design the look and feel of the ride.

The Ghost Train is an annual event in Chesapeake. The 1 1/4 mile main trail between the entrance and the Northwest River is filled with static displays and the "Ghost Train", wooden wagons pulled by a tractor, takes people down the trail at night where live actors are added to the spooky displays. The local community is heavily involved every year.

The Frankenstein figure on the Britannia Pier has lost its head. Let that be a warning for wouldbe passengers on the Ghost Train.

... ... The Old Ghan Railway, originally called the Great Northern Railway, is a tale of the triumphs of pioneering Australians in a landscape of extremes. In 1878 The Ghan opened the way into Australia's remote interior and provided isolated residents with a physical and emotional link to civilisation. During world war II the railway was pushed to its limit, yet barely a decade later after peace resumed in 1945, it was rejected. Today, these old locos in the outback town of Marree, South Australia, form part of the Old Ghan Railway Heritage Trail.
After a couple of hours of sleep, we went back to the haunted house and found that the furniture company across the street was selling their assets. We were able to get a good deal on plywood and scraps of lumber. We brought it over, and Miss Ashley rode around the track a few times.
