The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation was incorporated in 1993 to facilitate the merger of Burlington Northern, Incorporated, parent of the Burlington Northern Railroad, and Santa Fe Pacific Corporation, which owned the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (Santa Fe). The corporate merger was consummated on September 22, 1995, at which point shareholders of the previous companies became shareholders of BNSF and the two companies became wholly owned subsidiaries of BNSF. In December 1996, the two holding companies and two railroads were formally merged, and in January 1998 the remaining intermediate holding company was folded into the railroad.
Robert D. Krebs of Santa Fe Pacific was president of BNSF from the merger until 1999, chief executive from the merger until 2000, and chairman from 1997 until 2002. He was succeeded in all three positions by Matthew K. Rose.
On November 3, 2009, Berkshire Hathaway made a $26 billion offer to buy the remaining 77.4% of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation it did not already own, valuing the purchase at $34 billion. The deal, which including Berkshire's previous investment and the assumption of $10 billion in Burlington Northern debt brings the total value to $44 billion. Consummated February 12, 2010, it is the largest acquisition in Berkshire Hathaway's history.
The deal was structured so that the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation would merge with and into R Acquisition Company, LLC, an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. The deal closed on February 12, 2010, and at the same time, the now merged company changed its name to Burlington Northern Santa Fe, LLC that remains an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway.

It has been 4 years since I built a skull-shaped draisine and equipped it with many small lamps to pull it over a closed viaduct on a full moon night.
Before that I only had to quickly carry all parts multiple times through 200 meter thorn hedges before the fun could finally begin:)
Excerpt from insauga.com:
Baird crafted four large sculptures that were installed in 2011 for Mount Pleasant Village at 100 Commuter Drive. A massive rectangular prism constructed with silver and black metal bars, Ghost Train represents the actual size and type of steam engine that travelled the rails of the Grand Trunk Railroad in Brampton in the 1800s. The railway led to an economic boom that transformed a small village into our town within 20 years. All of Baird’s sculptures reflect Mount Pleasant as a well-planned “urban transit” village. Baird has executed over 150 public, corporate and private commissions and is one of Canada’s most successful sculptors.
South Western Trains Sprinter unit 159020 cuts a sinister appearance at St Denys station, Southampton as it hustles through with the 8.05pm Reading - Salisbury Reception Line (5Y73) empty stock move.
Was there a driver in the cab? Not entirely apparent from here.....

It's almost 10pm and a deserted Exeter Central sees the arrival of a pair of DMUs with Pacer 143618 leading.
The train is in fact an empty stock repositioning move from platform 3 running under the headcode 5E57. It will shortly depart from this platform (2) as the 9.55pm to Exeter St Davids (2E57). The unit on the back is Sprinter 150265.
I selected this frame from the sequence because of the way the driver was highlighted while the front-end remained largely in shadow.
I've switched commenting off for this one.

An eerie train whistle can be heard from the station yard at Sheringham.
It's only Ol' Bones, the long gone driver, on his engine, always an oily rag in hand.

What the .... is going on?
I feel like my account has been partly set back to the state of about 3 weeks ago. I'm missing my last few pictures and I think some likes and comments (not quite sure about that).
I wont reupload those lost pictures immediately because maybe flickr can solve that issue. Also I have enough new stuff ;)
