An alligator prop at the Haunted Castle at Miracle Strip Amusement Park in Panama City Beach, Florida. The buggy would roll past and the aligator would charge out at you at a high rate of speed.

Amateur production of The Ghost Train in 1958, Government College, Zaria.

Student review from BAREWA, the school magazine "The first play to be acted on the school's new stage was "The Ghost Train" by Arnold Ridley, acted by members of the staff and their wives. The producer was Mr T F Chivers.

The play is a melodrama with the police finally arresting a gang of crooks who have been using the 'ghost train' for smuggling. The atmosphere and tension were helped by the realistic set and sound effects. The acting, all the cast but one from Government College, was of a high standard.

The play was staged on 28th, 29th and 20th March 1958, and the students of the college together with students from institutions in Zaria saw the production on the first two nights. Among the distinguished persons attending the open night performance on the Saturday, were the Minister of Education and the Permanent Secretary, Minstry of Education and his wife."...

Scanned slides from 50s and 60s.

Vintage family slides from 1950s & early 60s NIgeria (scanned). Jean and David were in Nigeria for over 10 years, David working in the then colonial service and education. For some of that timeJean worked part-time in a number of secretarial roles and teaching.

The family lived variously in Kano, Maru, Zaria and Kuru, near Jos (Plateau Province).

The slides uploaded are just a selection of the family collection, not intended to be artistic or significant at the time, but a personal 'diary'. David was the principal photographer.

The train runs 2 to 3 times a day during the summer season. Lots of train buffs come to ride the train and take pictures along the way.

As part of the New England Quarter development, this is a life-size 2D replica of the 1847 steam locomotive, the Jenny Lind. This etching-like structure (by John Mills) is cantilevered on a steel beam over the disused railway bridge in Brighton's New England Quarter and illuminates in ghostly fashion at night. Representing the ghosts of engines past chugging to and from Brighton Works over this bridge - which is now a footpath.

Just visible on the London Road Viaduct in the background, is a Southern Trains Class 313 electric unit approaching Brighton with a stopping service on the Eastern Coastway route

The Ghost Train is an annual event in Chesapeake. The 1 1/4 mile main trail between the entrance and the Northwest River is filled with static displays and the "Ghost Train", wooden wagons pulled by a tractor, takes people down the trail at night where live actors are added to the spooky displays. The local community is heavily involved every year.

...Tenterden Town Train Station, Kent. This picture was taken in December 2008, since then I have learnt new processing methods and therefore created this dramtic image.

"Now baby's got that bottle

Filled up with lightning and rain

He keeps calling out for someone

But she's riding on a train

Riding on the ghost train

And she keeps on riding

She's gonna keep on riding

Mama keep on riding

Keep on riding" - Marc Cohn - Ghost Train

Fairly accurate depiction of the color scheme of the Haunted Castle ride, formerly in Miracle Strip Amusement Park, Panama City beach Florida.

This is John's rough drawing of the layout for our dark ride. It will be a small-scale ride for now, for experiments and tests. We measured the space, swept the track plan into the dust with a brush, and last night I put the track down. This weekend I will weld and bolt the track together and try to get some cars on it.

Once the rest of the track is down, we'll measure it all and see what the length is. I'm guessing it will be about 250 feet.

Skeleton Crew

As the ominous Ghost Train belches black smoke into the dusty night air, it stops at the Abandoned Station to let on its frightened passengers.

The four undead crew include Thomas Specter, the Ghost Train's conductor; Bill Marrow, the Switchman and Engineer, "Bones" Skelton, the Ghost Train's porter; and "Shorty" T. McBones, the coal shoveler. What a frightening sight as the crew prepares to welcome the midnight guests.
