Ward Colorado semi ghost town
Named after Calvin Ward, this town was one of the richest in the state of Colorado. One mine is said to have produced over 2 million ounces of silver alone. Calvin located the first claim in 1860, and the boom came the next year when the Columbia vein was located. The population varied over the next 40 years from 400 to about a thousand and sometimes more. The first train was built into the area in 1898 and it came from Boulder. As ore became easier to ship out of the town more people came in and soon there were 250 people a day riding the train to and from Ward. In 1901, a devastating fire leveled 50 buildings, but being a sturdy camp, Ward was immediately rebuilt. Today there are still people living in Ward and it is said there is enough gold under the town to warrant razing the buildings and mining it out.
For those who like high altitude ghost towns, Ward is the place to go. Located on highway 160 northwest of Denver at an elevation of over 9,000 feet, you will see a town twice ravaged by fire. The first destroyed the sawmill before it had a chance to produce any lumber. It was re-built immediately and produced lumber with which miners houses and stores were built. By 1867, some two hundred people called Ward home. The town was flourishing in the early '90s and had a population of around 600. In 1897, the railroad was brought into Ward from Boulder. The route was known as the Whiplash and Switzerland Trail as it climbed 4,100 feet over twenty-six miles to the elevation of 9,450 feet. There were a number of high producing mines in Ward, the most prominent being the Columbia Mine which produced $5 million in ore during its prime. At the turn of the century, the second fire nearly destroyed the entire town. Despite the fire and the lapse of time since, Ward is still a ghost town of much interest to visitors.

Tales speak of the Prague Ghost, a spectral being that emerges from the shadows, donning the guise of a mortal, blending seamlessly into the urban landscape.

Ghost Ranch Lodge
Pima County, Arizona
Since 1941, Ghost Ranch Lodge in Tucson, Arizona, has played an important role in the tourist commerce, specifically for its influence on the planning, design and development of subsequent motor hotels as seen along Miracle Mile Road at the city’s northern gateway. The work of master architect Josias Thomas Joesler as conveyed through his innovative site plan, artistic Period Revival design, rustic use of materials and a high understanding of workmanship; and for the subsequent evolution of motel architecture and planning as conveyed through its subsequent additions of buildings and spaces. The Ghost ranch Lodge is Tucson’s first destination courtyard motor lodge that combined the access and affordability of a motel with the character of a dude ranch and the amenities of a resort. The 5.8-acre Ghost ranch Lodge was one of the first and largest tourist accommodations---which provided affordable accommodations with up-scale accommodations for long-term guests. When the Ghost Ranch Lodge opened in 1941 it was a group of eight romanticized Mexican casitas immediately surrounding a formal courtyard and central terrace that created the feeling of a destination rather than a motor court. The tourist business began blossoming in the “old Pueblo” of Tucson in 1922.

This picture, taken at the Othello Tunnels in BC's Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park, CLEARLY and UNAMBIGUOUSLY shows a ghost trying to steal some guy's wallet. Obviously, that must be the ghost of one of the people killed on the convict train that derailed in the tunnels back in 1854.
Or it's just the camera having a bad reaction to the lighting conditions. Whatever.
I made this shot a few days ago when I was on photo tour with a good friend. It was already at the end of the day and it was pretty cold already but I just wanted to make some last shots across the water. I did this shot on full zoom with my 75-300 mm lens. It already was a nice sundown picture but I found it a bit boring. So I started editing and after quite a while I got this :)
