Ornate ghost pipefish mimic arms of a crinoid or feather star. They swim up and down to mimic the motion of the crinoid arms. Although they look like plants, crinoids are marine animals, just like corals.
Parker set my camera to really slow exposure, then ran back to the table and didn't sit still (on purpose). So he is transparent.
I would have used this for my daily photo, but I don't think I actually took this one.

When I was 18 I met up with the wrong guy and got involved with drugs. I only used for about a year but I was left with scars on my arms. That was 12 years ago but I am reminded every day of that shameful and awful time. Sometimes people point out my scars- total strangers will say things to me. Once a man came up to me in a store and said he knew where I could get help- I had been clean 8 years at that point, you would think he could tell the scars were old! I even lost a job over it once. I wish I could leave the past in the past but even though the scars have faded they will never go away.
Two baby ghost orchids were waiting for me when I got home from Iowa on Thursday, June 10, 2010. In a soda bottle with Spanish moss.

Had a go at an 3 tier HDR rendering, looks quite nice i think, but notice the ghost in the lower left corner, cute i think. The building by the way is one of the awesome Neoclassisistic mansions along the lakes in Copenhagen, a beautiful example of late 19 century architecture.

Ghost Forest is a major art installation consisting of 10 primary rainforest tree stumps which were brought to Europe from a commercially logged forest in Western Africa by the artist Angela Palmer (www.angelaspalmer.com). The work is intended to highlight the alarming depletion of the world's natural resources, and in particular the continued rate of deforestation. Today, a tropical forest the size of a football pitch is destroyed every four seconds, impacting on climate, biodiversity and the livelihoods of indigenous people. The trees in Ghost Forest - most of which fell naturally in storms - are intended to represent rainforest trees worldwide; the absence of their trunks is presented as a metaphor for the removal of the world's lungs caused through the loss of our forests.
The tree stumps were exhibited as a “ghost forest” in Trafalgar Square in London last November (2009), and then in Copenhagen in December (2009) during the UN's Climate Change Conference. In July this year (2010) Ghost Forest will be exhibited for a year on the lawn of Oxford University's Museum of Natural History and the Pitt Rivers Museum. The exhibition will coincide with the Museum of Natural History's 150th anniversary this year, and the UN's International Year of Biodiversity. In 2011 it is the UN's International Year of Forests.
This Wawa tree (Triplochiton scleroxylon) naturally fell in bad weather in the Suhuma Forest, Western Ghana.

The Ghost Train is an annual event in Chesapeake. The 1 1/4 mile main trail between the entrance and the Northwest River is filled with static displays and the "Ghost Train", wooden wagons pulled by a tractor, takes people down the trail at night where live actors are added to the spooky displays. The local community is heavily involved every year.
