The Commando Memorial is a Category A listed monument in Scotland, dedicated to the men of the original British Commando Forces raised during World War II.

Situated around a mile from Spean Bridge village, it overlooks the training areas of the Commando Training Depot established in 1942 at Achnacarry Castle. Unveiled in 1952 by the Queen Mother, it has become one of Scotland's best-known monuments, both as a war memorial and as a tourist attraction offering views of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mòr. - See more at: aboutfortwilliam.com/things-to-see/visitor-attractions/th...

One of my beautiful Hallmark Christmas decorations. It is so hot here in Sydney today - the temperature is supposed to hit 41C and by the feel of it, it is already there.

Taken at an Ostrich farm that we visited during our 6 day tour of the Eastern Cape.

When we went to Pilanesberg we stayed at Kedar Lodge which was once Paul Kruger's old property. It was a wonderful place to stay with animals wandering around the property and also the old homestead which has been turned into a museum.

Shane was working yesterday so sigh, I had to go to the Kite Festival by myself.

Didn't have far to go as it was held at the Bishops Palace, only fields away from our house here in Castlerock.

Bit of a sad fact, I have never flown a kite before and I came away from the festival still haven't flown one!!

Picture perfect Summer day with just the right amount of wind to get the mega kites flying without the handlers suddenly being whisked over the Atlantic Ocean to be deposited in Iceland!

There aren't many days out that only cost £4.27 (US$6.50)and everyone really looked as if they were enjoying themselves. I enjoyed myself even further when I found a booth selling Strawberries and Cream!

And still talking about Castlerock. Shane and I entered the Castlerock Community Association Photographic Competition. Never entered a competition before and I was totally thrilled to bits to come first in the wildlife and nature section. I am glad I didn't enter the section Places of Interest because Shane came first AND second and he will never, ever ever let me forget it. NOT that we are competitive! It also pays not to listen to one's husband as he said not to enter Clan Mushroom as it could have been taken anywhere. Actually this is one of my all time fave photos as the light was so beautiful and the raindrops on top of the caps look like jelly.

I have put the photo in the comments section. To see Shane's winning entries :

We visited the Roman Baths in Bath - amazing place. We last visited in 1998 and it was good to revisit such a place full of history.

Time is limited on the internet, so still no time for comments sadly.

On the way back from meeting up with Piet at Satara Rest Camp, Kruger National Park, we spotted a herd of elephant coming down to the waterhole to drink. I was hoping to get some photos of them rolling in the water, but they had their fill and began to walk off.

This is a decoration that I spotted when visiting Peter's Dad in his aged care facility. He is going on 95 now and still doing well, although he has trouble walking around after his fall just before Christmas las year. Otherwise his health is good which is amazing for someone his age.

I wasn't happy with the way that this photo turned out, but I liked the angle, so I had a play in photoshop.

On our tour of France we visited Château d'Amboise where we saw the final resting place of Leonardo da Vinci in the chapel of the Chateau.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2015 challenge - #4 Four. These are little containers that were given to us on entering a restaurant in Hungary during one of our trips. They contained a welcome drink to all patrons, but after one sip of the drink, most people tipped the contents into the garden (it was like drinking rocket fuel LOL) and left the ornaments on the table. We were allowed to bring some home as souvenirs.

Sunset from the breakwater at Tuncurry, NSW.

This is my photo for the 52 in 2014 group - #48, Fog, Mist or Smoke. I was really struggling with what to do for this topic, but on our trip to Mt. Wilson on Monday, it was quite misty going up the mountain road and as we came around a bend, this is what I saw. It was difficult to get a shot without the tops of trees in the scene, so I have cropped them out.

In six months time we will be in the UK doing one of my favourite things - travelling around the UK. This is the route we will be taking - it looks like someone has tipped a bowl of spaghetti on the map LOL. Peter is a lover of English sporting rifles, shotguns and history and would like to visit some arms fairs while we are there, so we have had to arrange our travels around four fairs and auctions he will be visiting and this is the result. The accommodation is mostly booked and now all we have to do is wait for the 20th August when we fly out from Sydney.

I have spoken to my son about the cyclone. It was downgraded before it reached Hervey Bay thankfully, but still did a bit of damage in the area. It was worse further up north and now all down the coast is experiencing flooding - the effects of which will last for a few weeks I suppose. He said Hervey Bay didn't get as much rain as other areas, but the winds were pretty bad.

I took my three grandsons to the movies today to see The Hobbit - it was very good if you like fantasy type movies (which I do). They are having a sleepover tonight and tomorrow they are going to stay with my daughter for two nights, and my two granddaughters are coming to stay with me. It is like musical beds in my house LOL.

Salisbury Cathedral, formally known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is an Anglican cathedral in Salisbury, England, and is considered one of the leading examples of Early English architecture. The main body was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258.

The cathedral has the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom (123m/404 ft). Visitors can take the "Tower Tour" where the interior of the hollow spire, with its ancient wood scaffolding, can be viewed. The cathedral also has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral close in Britain (80 acres (320,000 m2)). The cathedral contains the world's oldest working clock (from AD 1386) and has the best surviving of the four original copies of the Magna Carta (all four original copies are in England). Although commonly known as Salisbury Cathedral, the official name is the Cathedral of Saint Mary. In 2008, the cathedral celebrated the 750th anniversary of its consecration in 1258.

Our Grevillea bush is full of these exquisite blossoms. The birds love the flowers and often drop in to feed. The first flower reminds me of the fireworks that I saw on New Year's Eve.

We were so excited to see so many elephants when we visited Addo Elephant Park. We drove around for around two hours and thought we were going to miss out but Jac said he would go to the waterhole again and we found that a whole herd had walked down the hill. After a while they left and another herd wandered down - so many wonderful photo opportunities.

Tomorrow evening we leave South Africa and fly home to Australia. In one way we will be sad to leave but I can't wait to go home and see the family again.

I bought this Lavender a while back and was told it was a white Lavender. I was beginning to think it would never flower, but the last week it has bloomed. I sold my Canon 100-400 lens last week and bought a Canon 28-300 L series lens to use as a walkaround lens. So far I am very impressed with the quality.

We had a lovely sunny day today, but I was busy all day so no chance of flower photos - this is one taken in March.

The sun came out on and off today which was nice after all the rain. I decided to wash and just as I had almost finished hanging it on the line, it began to rain lightly LOL. So we had to take it off and put it on the airer inside where it will stay now until it dries.

I went to the surgeon today, but still no news as he wants me to have more x-rays and an ultrasound done. This seems to be a never ending saga. Ultrasound and x-rays on Friday and doctor's visit on Tuesday which will be four weeks until we leave for Africa - cutting it fine.

Today I bought some new potted collour for my wheelbarrow garden as it is looking bare (and I wanted to find something new to photograph LOL). I really love the colour of these little heartsies.

Yesterday we went on a bus trip around Hong Kong from Kowloon across to Hong Kong Island. We also went on a sampan ride around the harbour and had a visit to Stanley Markets - a good afternoon. The second photo shows how the other half live.

I am feeling much better today and as there is only 3 hours difference between Hong Kong and Sydney time, I am sure that we will suffer no jetlag after arriving home.

I had a request for a baby grizzly bear from my granddaughter. I may let all the animals go to their new homes today. I will be keeping some, but I have told the grandchildren that they can take two home each.

A lovely dahlia and bumble bee that I spotted today ar Honfleur, Normandy.

Internet connection has been rather slow and we have been on the go for the last couple of days - another 6 a.m wakeup call tomorrow and another full day.

I am adding this photo for Ira:

I have seen these people a couple of times now - once at the Medieval Fair and once at the Story Book gardens at Cessnock.

When we called into Ely in Cambridgeshire, Peter went in to a huge antique shop by the River Ouse and I wandered along the river taking photos.

Less than 18 weeks now until we visit South Africa again - counting down the weeks. This is one of my newest creations - a small lion (only about 6 inches seated). I really enjoyed making him and have three more orders from the grandchildren. Peter has claimed this one LOL.

Flickr was really playing up for me last night and I couldn't seem to add comments. I will catch up with everyone today.

It is still overcast here today and I am bored. I have been playing in PicMonkey - it is lots of fun LOL. My brother will probably kill me when he see this.

100 more days to go.

Cheddar Gorge is a limestone gorge in the Mendip Hills near the village of Cheddar in Somerset. The gorge is the site of the Cheddar Show Caves where Britain's oldest complete skeleton, Cheddar Man, estimated to be over 9,000 year old, was found in 1903. Cheddar Gorge, including the caves and other attractions, has become a tourist destination.

4 days to go.

Today we went to Longleat - amazing place - well worth a visit. We drove thriugh the Safari Park - I also visited the butterfly enclosure amongst other things.

My daughter has emailed me to say that there are so many bushfires around Sydney - I hope everyone stays safe. They have started early this year.

These photos were taken during our last game drive whilst at the camp. The boys were herding Dorper sheep on a neighbouring property - the afternoon light was perfect (now I see why my daughter loves doing her photo shoots at this time of the day).

We leave Capetown in the morning and fly back to Johannesberg where we will pick up another car and drive to Marloth Park. We have no internet access there so we will be off the air for a week or so.

This is my photo for the group 52 in 2014 - #40 Square. This is my new eyeshadow pallet, but Miss Sabrinah has her eyes on it LOL.

This little baby was running around trying to show how tough it was LOL. It was so cute to watch. Taken in Kruger National Park on one of our game drives. See other photo in the first comment box.

Not counting today, it is two days until we fly out for South Africa. I have developed what I think is an URTI (Upper Respiratory Tract Infection) and I hope it doesn't cause too much trouble when we are travelling around. This photo was taken in 2012 when we were driving around Kruger National Park.

Peter has been to South Africa 5 times and I have been 3 times and this is the first time that we have seen the elusive Leopard.

We were driving through Kruger on our way to meet up with my Flickr friend Piet when we came across a car parked in the middle of the road. When we edged around the side of the car I saw a spotted tail and realised it was a Leopard. It sat there for quite a while staring into the undergrowth and I realised that it was stalking some Impala. It went to the side of the road and the Impala became nervous, so it sat up still watching intently. We didn't have time to wait to see if it continued to stalk the Impala as it was a long drive to Satara Rest Camp.

This Magpie visits our garden at least three times a day as Peter gives it meat to feed it's babies. Today it arrived with a gift for Peter to thank him.

This is my entry for the weekly challenge:

52 weeks of photos project

This week's theme is macro/up close

Because I still can't pick up my camera, I am delving into the archives.

The Kot Diji Fort, formally known as Fort Ahmadabad, is an 18th-century Talpur-era fort at the edge of the Thar Desert. The fort sits above a pre-Harappan Civilization archaeological site dating to 2500 to 2800 B.C.E.

Tomorrow I go in for more surgery to remove the plate and screws from my wrist as the surgeon feels that they are causing irritation and pain. I found Flickr my saviour during my recovery after the last operation so I will be here checking out your wonderful photos, but unable to leave comments (unless I type one finger which is so slow.
